That has to be the lowest that I have seen Spotify numbers since the streaming era really began. I wonder if the controversy with that guy and people cancelling their subscriptions is why the numbers are so terrible. The number one song on Tuesday is not even at 900,000 streams Not only streaming numbers are down, the radio numbers are declining too.

So what do we think 7220 in comparison to The Voice and Voice of the Heroes?

Let's wait and see the first day Spotify numbers for Dua/Megan, but going by the Youtube and Itunes numbers, they won't set the charts on fire. And to be honest Megan hasn't really been a fixture on the top of the charts since 2020, more than a year ago.
The fact is that Rap/Hip Hop fad seems to be dying. If you look at this past week's top ten, only Super Gremlin is Rap, all the other songs are Pop (or some variation of it: E/D, Alternative).

You could've said the exact same thing at around the same time last year lmao. For awhile in 2021 after LNCL departed, the only rap song to hit the top 10 was Whoopty Hip-hop isn't a fad, it's still the biggest mover. That's why it gets the biggest album bombs.

I don't imagine it will chart anywhere significant, but would that Madonna Frozen remix count as a new song or would it be considered the same song as the original "Frozen" (and thus combined with the original's stats) for chart purposes? I think it already charted as a new entry on some dance charts.

This is only one week, if we go months without any hip-hop Top 10 hits then maybe okay sure we can discuss """hip-hop dying""", but it's only a few weeks. And it's not like Pop is doing well either, it's not like any genre is being streamed massively. They might occupy most of the to spots but how much of it is down to overwhelming mass consumption and not just music be fragmented in terms of consumption that Heat Waves goes to number one out of stability? We just went through a week where the biggest streamed song on Spotify didn't even crack 1M streams.

There has been releases this year from major artists this year such as The Weeknd,Christina Aguilera,Jennifer Lopez,Avril Lavigne,Dua Lipa and Ed Sheeran,It is just that none of these new releases have done nothing on the charts just overshadowed by Tik Tok songs. Also a lot of 2020/2021 hits are still getting lots of streams such as Blinding Lights and Driver’s License and also not really any new Breakout artists that we usually see annually.

Of these artists I'd only call three major atm, and of those one released a song yesterday, one released only a remix (and a feature that is massive in the UK) and the third looks to be setting up for an album re-release

Dave's Starlight is doing huge numbers in the UK - could it potentially crossover into the US? While he is a UK rapper and they traditionally have it uphill in the US, his music isn't rap but rather hip-hop. Since it's in English and the UK is a major enough music market to receive playlisting, I think it's possible

Since it's in English and the UK is a major enough music market to receive playlisting, I think it's possible Dave's been successful and has gotten attention outside of the UK since about 2017 by now. Same with Stormzy. If either of them had broken through, they'd have done it by now. Artists' success to be localized to their continents, even if they're in English (look at how many European acts are only one hit wonders or even never crossed over to America)

Yes, rap/hip-hop is definitely dying, that's why 7 of the top 10 most streamed artists of the year so far in the US (most of who haven't dropped any new music this year) are hip-hop artists.

The fact is that Rap/Hip Hop fad seems to be dying. Rap/hip-hop has been around and in a large presence for like 40 years now. It is way past ever being called a "fad." There may be times it is more popular than others, but its popularity and existence is not a short-lived thing like, say, grunge.

We'll no doubt talk loads about how Lil Durk and Dua-Megan will fair throughout the week but congratulations are in order for Rex Orange County's highest song to date. Even though I was never that big a fan, as someone who saw the rise and fall (or fade in relevance) of bedroom pop, it's really cool he's been able to found subsequent success after blowing up in the late 2010s.

It appears that my theory has some truthfulness. The numbers have been low recently, but they have never been this low. Having a number one on a Saturday below one million streams is appalling. People unsubscribing actually is playing a role

See this is why I never understood why some people here were so sure Megan/Dua would debut at #1. I think some people here get so fixated on the artists involved, when in reality, the quality of the song is probably the biggest factor in whether a song is successful or not.

I love how the poster that expected Sweetest Pie to debut #1 because of Megan is completely ignoring the #2 (and low stream #) debut and has already pivoted to some other topic.
This was never an easy #1 debut for these ladies. And the song getting a lukewarm reception only hurt it. Still think it can be a solid top 10 and radio filler for the summer. Maybe even grow into a big peak if radio and promo can jump before streaming levels off.

If pie hits #10, it'll be megan's 2nd highest peaking song as a lead.

I think people were just so desperate for SOMETHING to shake up the top of the charts that they got their hopes up. In reality, this is actually a really good debut for both of them. Isn't it Dua's highest spotify day debut? And Megan's as a lead? Correct me if I'm wrong.

The general trend of people listening to older music isn't platform related I'd say.

I think people were just so desperate for SOMETHING to shake up the top of the charts that they got their hopes up. In reality, this is actually a really good debut for both of them. Isn't it Dua's highest spotify day debut? And Megan's as a lead? Correct me if I'm wrong. The problem is that Sweetest Pie was being advertised everywhere, left and right. Not to mention, DWHAP debuted at #2, and it didn't get anywhere near the amount of advertising as Sweetest Pie. It won't be a good look for Megan/Dua if Sweetest Pie doesn't debut at least match the #2 debut of DWHAP.
