Honestly I'm not worried about Sweetest Pie at all, it'll be fine, the thing that stung for me when I saw the Spotify charts was the lack of any album bomb from Lil Durk. I've seen way too many album bombs on AM that didn't translate to Spotify and as such didn't translate to the hot 100 and the more I pay attention to music rn the more I feel like we're just never gonna get anything to actually disrupt this Painfully slow period

Most of those have generated at least one hit though: Super Gremlin, Pushin P, etc, and Ahh Ha seems to be doing ok-ish in terms of Hot 100.

I can definitely see that there are new hits on the horizon it's just something about actually watching the charts rn that's just so Boring and I keep expecting it to change lol

On the topic of actually new hits though I feel like even if we don't get a big Durk album bomb, it should definitely help with Ahhh Ha becoming a bigger hit

What the hell is everyone talking about! Am I the only one that thinks “Sweetest Pie” had a really solid debut? lol. I mean I already made it clear somewhere neither of those ladies have ever had front loaded debuts (not counting WAP which is an anomaly). They are more gradual builders. I only expected SP to debut in the top 10 so to me the first day numbers have met my expectations. We’ll see where it goes from here. I dont think it will fall off like “Rumors,” but I also don’t think it will do as well as “Kiss Me More.”

The big difference is that Meg and Dua's previous songs (with maybe the exception of WAP) weren't as heavily advertised from the get go like this. Sweetest Pie reminds me a lot of Take My Breath. Both of those songs were advertised heavily with the expectation of a very high (#1 or #2) debut. You don't go through the trouble of all that promotion to just have a Top 10 debut. TMB's debut was a failure (as I said back in August), and so will Sweetest Pie if it doesn't debut at #1 or #2.

"Heavily advertised" Sweetest Pie wasn't even announced until a few days ago...

It's an ok performance so far for it. I don't think anyone can objectively move the needle in any direction (huge win or massive flop) yet. I think top 10 debut and good longevity are doable and good for both acts at this stage.

If I had to predict (and I don’t, but I will anyway) at this point, I’d say this will have a similar trajectory to songs like “Rumors.” Relatively quick rise (on radio), peak within the first few weeks on the Hot 100 and will be gone by summer - but by then we won’t notice because we’ll be in the midst of the summer bangers of the year (I hope).

The gag is you thinking radio is going to be playing new music this summer. I think you mean we’ll be in the midst of fall 2021 music by that point.

Honestly there are times where i wished AM impacted more on the charts compared to Spotify. Not only would we have faster rotation, but also absolutely no visible numbers that some people complain over here and its annoying at times.

AM does have lots of impact. It's just that AM doesn't report their numbers unlike Spotify which makes it hard to gauge.

Look at Lil Durk for example. He doesn't have one song in the US Spotify top 10 but he's absolutely dominating AM and looking at one of the biggest album debuts of the year. That alone shows AM has some major weight on the charts.

As I said, this reminds me of when Abel released Take My Breath. Abel was coming off the After Hours era and still had 2 songs going strong, in Blinding Lights and Save Your Tears. Dua is coming off the Future Nostalgia era, and has 2 songs going strong in Levitating and Cold Heart.

Not everyone can be at the top consistently with every release. If they can then what’s the point of even promoting or announcing that you are going to drop something when you know it’s going to do well anyways. Imagine how boring an artist would be if they had the exact same chart run for all their future releases.

In addition to that, the songs themselves are not even double platinum either. You have a song in the top ten for thirty plus weeks that has platinum eligibility. That really shows the travesty that has become Billboard's assessment of popularity. It is outright absurd

Sweetest Pie is also not that great tbh. If it wasn't Dua and Meg I would have probably not bothered with a second spin.
