There are many artists who have never mentioned retirement who have basically ceased making music. Let's take Martina and Kellie for example. Martina has not released an album since 2018 and has not mentioned making new music since (outside of "Girls Like Me"). Kellie has not released a new album since 2013 and while it's obvious that she's going through a lot right now, there have been no indication about a new album since her last one. So while I would like to hope that Carrie would not stop making new music anytime soon, we'll, ultimately never know when she'll decide to hang it up because in this business, it seems to happen without warning. I just hope it never comes to that. Or if we really wanna get the scarys we can mention Faith Hill, who to my knowledge didn't officially mention a retirement, but hasn't had a new country album in nearly 20 years.

I'm actually surprised by this retirement talk regarding Carrie. I just don't see it. At all. She does need to decide where she wants to go from here. My wish for her music is something more personal from her. I want to hear what SHE has to say. Heartfelt lyrics. Themes that relate more to her life. I don't buy the arguments that she has the perfect life and doesn't have the emotional depth to pull from. Everyone experiences life differently for sure. I'd just like to hear her perspective. Too much of her music has become formulaic. In fairness, most of today's music is. In my opinion, she's got to let the walls down a bit more in her music. Scale back on the writing team retreat sessions. Team up with a co-writer she loves and trusts to help her if needed. And create something no one expects. That is my wish for her before she hangs it up.

Carrie hasn’t been associated with a writers retreat since the Blown Away era. At this point, she writes the majority of her music with a tight-knit group of collaborators at her cabin or David Garcia’s recording studio.
As for the D&R tour not having any international dates, that 100% all comes down to COVID restrictions. She said herself they were playing the routing safe based on the state of the world. Honestly I just don’t think it made any sense to add dates later on.

But I don't see why they couldn't have extended the tour with an international leg (Canada/Australia/UK) if Carrie wanted. While the era might not have been going as well as they hoped(?), they still could have earned a good amount of coin with added dates. I'm thinking selfishly here too as I haven't got to see her since the ST tour

But, I still stand by my point. I just don't see the emotion/connection in the songs. D&R for the most part is very generic. I love her. I really do. But, that's just how I feel about the majority of her recent (non-MS and MG) music. I'm sure the vast majority disagree.

I apologize for the retirement comment as I was the one who made it initially. I was being hyperbolic with the use of that word. I don't actually think she'll retire as I think she'll make music and tour for a long time to come; I just don't think it will be nearly as frequent, or as exciting, as it could be if her recent output is anything to go on.
I actually think Cry Pretty was a step in the right direction for getting more honesty from her, yet fans didn't seem to really gravitate towards it for some reason. (I am of the opinion that it's one of her best albums, and certainly her best album since the move to UMG.) But fan reception to that album drove her to releasing D&R, which as the person above me stated, is kind of a generic, boring album.

I don't really know if I see them releasing a fourth single after OOTT. But I've also seen talks about Cody Johnson releasing a song called "Dirt Cheap" after his current single peaks. If he does so this would leave Carrie with a gap for a new single.
I'm personally team "Drunk & Hungover."

Will take either one. Or both. They’re just too good.

Well at the rate OOTT is moving (at least it’s moving faster lately) it might peak at the same time as Cody’s 2nd single. Being serious too lol

OOTT is now her 25th most streamed song on Spotify & the lyric video has over 1.1 million views on YouTube. Carrie may be doing the bare minimum in terms of promotion for D&R, but you have to admit, the heights that this song is reaching w/o a music video & being a single for a deluxe edition is very impressive. It’s a rare accomplishment by Carrie

I'm calling it now, if released "Dirt Cheap" will be one of the biggest country songs of the year and will clean up at the award shows. It actually is the exact kind of early-mid 2000s song that made me love the genre and the type of music I'd kill for Carrie to make. She'd absolutely crush it. Anyway, if Cody releases "Dirt Cheap" next, it should only contribute to the hype for the lead single off his next album (which I assume will be the duet). I'd be shocked if we get another single from D&R after OOTT and I actually think the best move is to lead straight into the duet once OOTT and "Dirt Cheap" peak (if it is indeed his next single). Then have an undeniable smash ready to release to kick off album 8. While I'd be really, really surprised if they continued with D&R singles, hypothetically I'd release "Give Her That" over "Drunk and Hungover" even though "Damage" is probably my favorite of the remaining deluxe options. If they weren’t just picking from the deluxe tracks, I'd go with "Burn".

I just hope it never comes to that. In fairness, Martina would sing forever, but she lost her voice around that time. Find something of her singing live on youtube. I don't know what happened, but she can't sing (on key) anymore. Broke my heart for her. If she could release music, she would, IMO. Kellie isn't at Carrie or Martina's level, not sure she has a large enough base anymore to warrant an announcement.
Just saw where Faith was mentioned, and she's kinda less surprising. She almost always toured with Tim. Once her radio career started slowing she just packed it in. She still (obviously) does acting, singing and tours with Tim.
In General...
I like what Carriefan00 had to say about Carrie not being the type of person to promote her personal life etc, say her opinions on everything, she's just never going to do that. I personally think Carrie is so far from done. Whatever will be, will be, but there's just nothing to indicate anything regarding retirement. If Carrie were really going to retire she'd do a farewell tour (because she loves it), and I don't foresee that ever happening. I feel pretty confident saying that as a fan that's followed her from the very beginning.

And it's Spotify total is mostly down to the amount of money they sunk into playlisting. Now that they've taken it off the Hot Country Songs playlist it's daily total is mediocre.

When compared to the videos for GS and HMH. 1.1 million views is pretty dang good just for a lyric video, when the full fledged video for HMH only has 1.3 million views. And of course Crazy Angels has more views as of now, it was released 11 months ahead of OOTT.

Does anyone know what era a song called "Desert Sun" was written for? I came upon her recording of it online (maybe demo?) randomly the other day. Wasn't what I expected, but I liked it.

I suppose that we could use Martina for example but I don't really understand why Martina has not released another album yet. I like her a lot when I first start listening to country music and would absolutely like another album from her.

Yeah probably best to wrap this era up after OOTT. As it just doesn't have anything left momentum wise. I don't want to risk radio outright rejecting one of the songs, like they did Miranda and Maren's latest, and have a song peak outside the top 40.
The amount of hits left on the table this era is crazy.
-Velvet Heartbreak -Crazy Angels -Pink Champagne -She Don't Know -Give Her That -Drunk and Hungover -Burn -Damage
Y'all all deserved better.

Maybe this commercially disappointing era (which I will forever be upset about) will open up doors for Carrie to go as crazy as she wants from here on out. Hyperpop Carrie? Lofi Hip Hop Beats Carrie? 90s Europop Carrie? Duets album with the most random people Carrie?
I really feel with her skill she can do anything and I want her to do everything.

Oh what could have been I could also see Velvet Heartbreak and Give Her That doing well, but less confident in those. While I don't think Damage would fair well as a single, it's the exact sound and vocal that is very uniquely Carrie and that she just crushes. It takes me back to the SH era a bit. Also reminds me of Chaser, which is another one of my faves from her. I'd love for her to give us more songs like these two.

So realistically. When do we expect Carrie to give us another album? Later this year? 2025? Later?
Follow up question. Will it be a "regular" album a la Cry Pretty and Denim & Rhinestones? Or will it be something more of a side project a la My Gift/My Savior?

I do think we’ll get 1-3 duets aside from the Cody song that will garner some attention. I’d guess we’ll get a new “regular” album in 2025. I hope it's not any longer than that : )

Yeah, I see ‘24 being a residency/festivals year for her. No major projects aside from maybe a couple different collaborations. The earliest we’ll see anything from the next album is likely going to be 2025.

Do you think she'd do a duets album? I feel like I remember someone saying something about a "My Heroes" album a while back...a duets album with artists she admires (or who admire her?) That'd be kinda neat.
