If I had to guess it’ll come out a little before American Idol premieres. I still wonder if Carrie now has a deal with ABC as part of her contract with Idol, and the Residency will be streaming on Disney+ and Hulu concurrently.

I saw a commercial for Bruce Springsteen's new concert doc and it is on both Hulu & Disney. So, you never know! Also, I remember seeing that Ron Howard's Jim Henson doc originally premiered in Disney Plus before airing on ABC a few weeks after. So, I honestly guess that we shouldn't be ruling anything out. 🙂

Random, but can anyone else envision a remix of “Leave A Light On” being really cool?

I know Carrie has said that she doesn’t like mixing her music, and it was probably a smart move early on in her career, but I can’t help but wish we had some quality remixes of a handful of her songs.

Producer Trent Willmon (Granger Smith, Drake Milligan) cut it in two different keys in March 2023, and Underwood FaceTimed into the studio during the session to listen. She picked the lower key, a choice that would cast her voice in a new way. “[Her] voice has this sultry, Aretha Franklin-type quality to it in this key,” Johnson says. “I thought it was a piece of Carrie that we haven’t seen yet.”

The band played simply, framing the melody without drawing attention to itself, and Johnson was present when Underwood came into the studio later to overdub her part. During playback, Johnson sensed she was dissatisfied, and when asked, she said she would prefer they sing it together. “For me, the best possible situation is always when whoever I’m singing with, that we have the luxury of recording our vocals together,” she says. “I think that’s when the real magic happens.”

They each got into a vocal booth, able to see each other through the glass, and once they locked in, Willmon estimates that 95% of the vocal comes from one single performance. “It just reiterated why I love making music for a living,” he says.

One-take Carrie! I remember Michael W. Smith said something similar about recording in one take for “All Is Well”…. Doesn’t surprise me at all, and the authenticity absolutely comes through in the song.

I’m gonna be selfish and hope Cody and Carrie perform this song together at the CMA Awards coming up in a few weeks. Even though i know the CMA does not deserve her.

I love that song! Such an underrated Carrie duet. Her solo version is just as beautiful.
