For a second i thought it was JLo lol I actually find that Carrie's beginning to resemble her as she ages. I thought it on the red carpet for the ACMs and I see it in the cover as well. I think part of it is the hair; it's very similar to JLo's style tbh, and has been since the Cry Pretty era began.

Wonder which day this week we’ll get to hear a clip. And which page will we be on in this thread by the time it’s released 😅

People are beyond ready! It's giving 30 anticipation. We were on like page 15 before Taylor Swift had even basically told us Adele was coming!

I'm a bit nervous for this one. Carrie is by orders of magnitude my favorite singer and I've been stanning her since Idol but I've often been less than enthused about her aesthetic. She lives on that line between glamorous and tacky and sometimes goes too far over the edge. I'm one who didn't like the artwork for Cry Pretty. Cry Pretty the song was phenomenal but I don't think her critics took it seriously because the sparkle tears aesthetic took over. In any case, I'm worried she's going to go even harder into that vibe. I prefer Carrie showing off her artistic sensibilities in a more serious way. What I'd love to see coming up are songs like the best work on Cry Pretty: Ghosts, Low, Spinning Bottles, The Bullet, Cry Pretty. No more Southbound and other sophomoric tripe -- she's better than that. The Vegas feels was/is everything but I don't want to see her lean so hard into her showmanship that the material lags behind.

I get what you’re saying to an extent, but “Cry Pretty” (Single) made multiple year-end “best of” lists. It’s one of her most acclaimed singles by far. So I don’t think the glitter tears did any harm on that front.
Truthfully, there will always be a tackiness to her visuals because she’s a female country singer from Checotah, OK who idolized women like Dolly Parton, Reba, Loretta. All of those women have been called “tacky” too. Personally I appreciate that she just does her own thing and doesn’t try to emulate everyone else or follow fashion trends. So, rhinestone that face and put on those denim chaps.

So, rhinestone that face and put on those denim chaps. As far as it being one of her most acclaimed singles... I mean, yes and no. When I say critics I mean those who criticize her for lacking substance or having insipid, poppy material. The way Cry Pretty was presented encouraged those people to hand wave it away. Presentation is everything -- we eat with our eyes. I know it made some year-end lists but I don't think it moved the ball forward like it should have, like it deserved to. Anyway, I'm just hoping with all her Vegasy tendencies now at the forefront we don't get schlock designed to appease radio, as those are mercurial gods. You make a very good point about her small town background and her formative influences, though. She does do her own thing, no question, and I admire her for it. She's single leggedly pushed the glamour factor in country music through the roof; Carrie copycats are everywhere now.

With the image of the couple dancing, I'll take a guess here. "Ghost Story*" is about a person still living in a home that they used to share with their lover/spouse (who is now an ex or died) and they can't stop thinking about them. Essentially they're haunted by their memory and see and feel them in every room. Give us descriptive language and nostalgia. Make our hearts ache BUT also give us some tempo.

“Ghost House”? 🧐 30 day ban from the thread until you get it right daddy. Lol edited! That was the 3 espresso shots hitting me all at once. I meant “Ghost Story” but my guess of the song’s concept remains. Any other ideas to what this is about?

Could be about a deteriorating relationship in the same house, becoming "ghosts" to each other.

Ghost Story: story about someone who has heard so many ghost stories growing up and now they can’t tell the difference between reality and fantasy (ghost story)

I hope she debuts this at the Grammys. I know they typically have artists perform their nominated music, but don’t artists debut music there occasionally? She has two nominations to merit a performance.

She has two nominations to merit a performance. It’s not often artists debut music on the Grammys. However, there’s nothing normal about this year or the show in that it was delayed and it’s the first in-person Grammys in a while. Given all that, I could totally see Carrie getting a slot to debut music as she will be in town anyway. With this said, I’d be more willing to bet on Carrie & Jason performing and/or the Bonnie Raitt tribute which I assume is still happening. Carrie liked a Tweet about it before the show was postponed, and Carrie’s “likes” are far from random most of the time. Either way, I’m confident she’ll be performing this year and I hope I’m right because it has been a LONG time. I miss the days when Carrie was a staple Grammy performer - what a great era of her career! 🥰

I have no clue of the subject matter, but one safe bet is that this is probably a storytelling song, the name implies as much at least. Carrie hasn’t released a song with a narrative to radio since “Church Bells”, and that was her last solo #1. It seems to me Carrie is taking her CP/Vegas aesthetic and combining it with her signature style of song, storytelling, assuming this song tells a story. Not to be nitpicky or anything, but this technically isn't true. From a Billboard standpoint it is, but "Southbound" did still top the Mediabase charts. I know we've all compartmentalized the song from our memory , but that would make it her most recent solo #1. CB is the most recent "story song" single though, at least until now, most likely. I'm definitely in the camp that thinks this new song will tell the story of a relationship that the narrator can't move on from and goes to relive it in her memory every day. It'd definitely be a cool twist if death caused the ending as well; truly turning the relationship into a "Ghost Story." As for the album talk, I'm all in on the Denim & Rhinestones theory, which would make sense if this turns out to be a full-on Storyteller type of album as this song might suggest...any chances we might get lucky and have "Drink Us Away" get tacked onto the tracklist? I know that was likely written for Cry Pretty, but it would make sense to have this song on this album (yes, I've heard this song--lots of times ).

I said “narrative” song sort of implying that I wasn’t including SB or anything since. She hasn’t had a purely storytelling song out since “Church Bells”, which happened to be her last solo #1 on Billboard. I could’ve specified the chart, my bad haha.

I play it weekly since its leak. Stellar song. Probably my 2nd favourite Carrie leak I’ve heard behind “Oklahoma Wind”.

Where are you ladies accessing “Drink Us Away” cause I can only find the lyrics.
Also slightly hoping she returns to Mark Bright as a producer. Listened to some of her pre cry pretty material today and he really does know how to produce a song. The production on TBC and BA especially.

She has a solid shot at both, especially with Jason’s voting fans too. However, I think their main competition is Kane Brown, and I think the widening demographic through CBS acquiring the show might benefit him more. I think Carrie fans still got it, and she’s riling them up with new music right in time! But it’s hard to know how this will go with a much larger television audience than ever before.
It’s safe to say she’ll be there as a performer and could very well extend her winningest reign to 24, or 25.

She just posted a countdown on her Instagram so it looks like Ghost Story will be available at midnight. Some people are saying it won’t be available until 6 am Friday when radio stations start playing it so we will see.
Hoping for an album announcement on Friday but maybe that’s hoping for too much! Lol
