"Love Is Stronger Than Pride" was released in August 1996 as the third single from Ricochet's self-titled debut album and was a Top 10 hit for them later in the year. This found itself down inside the bottom 20 early on into its run thanks to a lone bottom 5 (and a bottom 2 at that!) from austin with nathanalbright also placing this down inside his bottom 20. Those would be its two lowest rankings, however, as seven participants ended up ranking this inside their top half which included a lone top 15 from Cody Wants Out.... Outside of that, the rankings were sprinkled out over in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. While not something I would seek out from them, I've always been a fan of Ricochet especially their first two albums. Both of their other hits from this year "What Do I Know" and "Daddy's Money" remain in contention.

"What Do I Know" was released in December 1995 as Ricochet's first single from their self-titled debut album and was a Top 5 hit for them in April 1996. And just like that Ricochet is now down to one song as they suffer back-to-back losses with it taking a top 3 from 🌺CountryLineDancer. Five others including myself lose a top half while nathanalbright is the only participant to place this down in their bottom 10. This was another favorite of mine to revisit as I've always liked this song. Next to "Daddy's Money", this was also another solid hit for them that I always enjoyed hearing on the radio back then. I really had no idea what to expect in regards to how this might fare here, so all in all I think it did about as well as it could given some of their unfamiliarity.

"Every Time I Get Around You" was released in March 1996 as the first single for David Lee Murphy's sophomore album Gettin' Out the Good Stuff and was a Top 2 hit for him on the country charts. Another tidbit which 🌺CountryLineDancer might appreciate is that this was the Number One country song of the year in Canada! This had a bit of a rough start in the first half of its run where it briefly flirted with the bottom 5. It rebounded some and found its footing in the middle of the rankdown before settling inside the top 80. Unfortunately for Cody Wants Out... he loses a top 3 after having just recently lost a top 15. Four others lose a top half with toomuchboy being the lone participant to rank this in their bottom 5.

Believe it or not, we're now only 15 songs away from the top half! I am going to pause there for now in case anyone is around and wants to catch up, but I plan on returning within the next hour or so to reveal another set. Will ccarter1023 finally be able to bid adieu to his last place?! Stay tuned!

"What I Meant to Say" was released in October 1995 as the fourth and final single from Wade Hayes' debut album Old Enough to Know Better. The song became his fourth consecutive Top 10 hit with this peaking at #5 in early 1996. It peaked early on into its run here with it briefly making an appearance inside the to 45. It didn't take long, however, for it to find itself back down inside the bottom 20 which came at the hands of a lone bottom 5 from austin. Only two additional rankings in the bottom 20 would follow with the majority placing it somewhere within their top 75. At the very top of that was a top 20 from 🌺CountryLineDancer as well as a top 25 from castleoblivion26. Seven others also ranked this inside their top half.

"You Gotta Love That" was released in January 1996 as the fourth single from Neal McCoy's album of the same name and peaked at #3 that spring becoming his sixth Top 5 hit overall. Thanks to its first of two top 20 rankings from nathanalbright, this gained enough support early on into its run to have been a top 30 contender. While it did eventually settle back and outside of the top half, it never found itself down inside the bottom 30. Six more participants would find a place for this inside their top half which included a second top 20 from kw9461. There were very few who did in fact rank this in their bottom 30 with only Kanenrá:ke placing it in his bottom 5.

"I Don't Think I Will" was released in May 1996 as the third single from James Bonamy's debut album What I Live to Do and reached No. 2 on the country charts becoming his highest-charting single. ccarter1023 can rest a little easier tonight knowing that his last place song finally exits as well as the trio of others who joined him down inside the bottom 20. Thanks to his ranking this had a rough start as it even dipped as far back as the bottom 5. It would regain its footing towards the middle of its run and actually continued its ascent until it almost came close to reaching the top half. Unfortunately this loss comes at the expense of CoJoFan's top 10 ranking as well as a top 15 from kw9461. Six others lose a top half while the remaining rankings came from within either the top 60 or 70. Don't let my ranking for this fool you as I have always liked this song and just inevitably found it hard to rank amongst everything else from this year. I adored hearing this on the radio back then and still like to revisit it every now and then. I'm pleasantly surprised overall by its performance here and not entirely surprised by some of the higher (and lower) rankings.

"Only on Days That End in 'Y'" was released in May 1996 as the third single from Clay Walker's third studio album Hypnotize the Moon and went on to become his eighth Top 5 country hit. Despite this making a brief and early appearance in the bottom 20, it was quickly able to rebound both from nathanalbright's top 30 and a pair of top 20s from austin and castleoblivion26. That was good enough to launch this all the way into the top 50. That too would be brief, however, as it began to settle back some as it moved into the last half of its run. Five others also ranked this inside the top half with it picking up only a few additional bottom 30s along the way.

Co-written by Donna Summer, "Starting Over Again" was originally recorded by Dolly Parton who first released it in early 1980 and went on to become a #1 hit for her that same year. Reba McEntire eventually recorded the song for her album Starting Over of which it was subsequently released as its third single in March 1996 with her version peaking just inside the Top 20 on the country charts. While this did make an early and brief appearance in the bottom 10, it slowly was able to climb its way out of that where it eventually found itself just shy of the top half in the middle of its run. That is thanks in part to a top 12 from someguy as well as a top 20 from castleoblivion26. Three others placed this in their top 40 with the remaining rankings sprinkled out across the board. That did include a pair of bottom 10s as well as two bottom 5s from both kw9461 and gardyfan.

Now that we've lost a song from both the King and Queen of country music all in a days time, I think this makes for a good stopping point for the evening. This also means we're now only ten songs away from the top half of which I'll start to reveal either tomorrow or on Friday. Any guesses as to which songs remaining will miss the cut?! Stay tuned to find out!
Before I sign off for the night, I am going to post another showcase featuring songs that did not make the rankdown.

Lots of great songs in that set. "I Don't Think I Will" has always been a favorite of mine. James Bonamy's voice wasn't the best, but it was perfectly suited for that song, and the melody is great too.
"Only On Days That End In Y" isn't necessarily Clay Walker's best song, but it's still a good one, and going out in the 70's seems a bit low.
I guess I'm the only one who can't get enough of the melody of "Runnin' Away With My Heart". It's not quite as good as "No News", "Everything's Changed", or "Come Cryin' To Me", but I really hold 90's Lonestar in high regard.
"You Gotta Love That" is far and away my favorite Neal McCoy song. Just an insanely catchy romp with a really memorable chorus. Neal isn't very well liked around here though, so that probably hurt some.
"Starting Over Again" is a good song lyrically. It's just too bad Reba decided to record it as if it were 1985. Makes it an easy song to pass over on a list this strong. Glad it's finally gone. Shania and Wynonna have weak songs that need to go next.
