Even being my #100, I still like this quite a bit It's definitely one of my favorite things from David Kersh so far.

Oh good, we've begun the Garth purge! Let's keep it going!Ask and you shall receive! "It's Midnight Cinderella" was released in June 1996 as the fifth single from Garth's album Fresh Horses and was a Top 5 hit on the country charts that summer. While this spent the early part of its run down inside the bottom 10, a near top 30 from someguy in the middle of the rankdown was just enough to give this one a bit of breathing room. Another top 50 from kw9461 would push this outside of the bottom 30 altogether, although that would be very brief as it gradually began to slip back a few spots each time an additional list came along. Both nathanalbright and .indulgecountry will be happy knowing they lose a bottom 5 with the latter being their last place.

Yeah, like I said a couple posts ago, "It's Midnight Cinderella" just has literally everything that I imagine Garth's haters hate about his music. The lyrics are incredibly cheesy, Garth adopts that really put-on twang to match the cheesiness of the song, and the melody and arrangement both work together as part of the twanginess in a way that emphasizes just how cheesy it all is. Not to mention the arrangement sounds pretty dated these days Granted, as somebody who isn't a Garth hater I found enough charm in this for it to nearly escape my bottom 20... But it still would not be very high for me in his overall catalog.

In regards to "It's Midnight Cinderella", I don't remember really disliking this one much if at all back then. But, fast forward to today and yea it is all kinds of cheesy just as bboat11 alluded to. On a side note, I believe that this in fact was not necessarily a song that they were going to release as Garth had wanted the albums opening track "The Old Stuff" to be a single. As the story goes, they performed the song live a few times and Garth mentioned that for whatever reason it just didn't work as well as they hoped it might. In the end, we got Cinderella lol.

I was just looking through the chart data for 1996 recently, and it looked like "Cinderella" had a pretty substantial life on the charts prior to even being released as a single! I imagine it was such a successful non-single that the label couldn't help but capitalize on it by making it official. (The result is a song that charted for 32 weeks in a time when literally everything else was forced to go recurrent at 20 weeks )

"Worlds Apart" was released in July 1996 as the second single from Vince Gill's album High Lonesome Sound and reached the Top 5 later that summer. The song would go on to win Gill a Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance. As mentioned above, this wound up starting off at its highest position of the rankdown only to then come to a rest at its lowest position towards the very end. Even then, it did manage to hold its own for the first half of its run and only began to slip back a spot here and a spot there towards the last quarter or so. It only found itself inside the bottom 30 at this point before then sliding back a couple of more spots and into the bottom 20. ccarter1023 is the lone participant to put this inside their top 50 with Kanenrá:ke, myself, and someguy ranking this in our top half. This also did manage to pick up a lone bottom 5 from bigd79.

I still find myself revisiting Vince's "Worlds Apart" from time to time especially whenever I'm feeling a tad bit melancholy. Loved hearing this on the radio back in in the day and am still somewhat surprised it managed to make the Top 5. Vince is certainly an artist that I'd love to see an artist rankdown for sometime in the future!

Lmao I just cannot believe "Worlds Apart" managed to be a radio hit! That has got to be one of the sleepiest songs to ever grace the top 5! That being said, I can absolutely see it being a "mood piece" that appeals to different people in different ways based on their life experiences and their current situation. But usually things that chart as well as this one did have some sort of mass-appeal, and this would score exactly 0 on my fictitious mass-appeal scale

Originally recorded and released in 1962 by Don Cherry, Neal McCoy covered the song in 1996 for his self-titled album. It was released in May of that year as that album's lead-off single and reached number 4 on the country charts. Neal went into the year still riding off of the momentum from his two previous releases, No Doubt About It and You Gotta Love That!, which likely helped the album's first single reach the Top 5. That was short-lived, however, as the next two singles failed to make the Top 30. This had a bit of an interesting run as while it was initially inside the bottom 30, it spent the middle part of its run outside of that as it picked up some support including a top 35 from austin as well as a top 50 from someguy. Towards the last quarter, however, it slowly began to dip back with each additional list that come along before eventually finally finding itself at its lowest position. Both bboat11 and LBTrocks shed a bottom 5 with the latter being their last place.

"It's Midnight Cinderella" is pretty bad, but "The Change" is its own level of awful. Glad they're both gone.
I like Neal McCoy sometimes but "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye" is simply dreadful.

"The Maker Said Take Her" was released in June 1996 as the fifth and final single from Alabama's album In Pictures and was a Top 5 hit for the group that summer. Unfortunately for CoJoFan, that means he becomes our first participant not just to lose a top 10 but a top 5 at that. While he was the highest ranking participant, four others did place this in their top half which included a top 50 from 🌺CountryLineDancer. There was only a little bit of middle ground in-between them and the rest of the group as six others placed this down inside their bottom 10. Of those, four were bottom 5s including a last place from Kanenrá:ke. I always love revisiting this song any chance I get because I enjoy it so much. Again, it's hard to imagine looking back on a song like this as being a Top 5 at country radio, but that just goes to show you how much the format has changed in the twenty-plus years since its release.

"A Woman's Touch" was released in July 1996 as the second single from Toby Keith's album Blue Moon and peaked at number 6 on the country charts. While things didn't quite look so bad for this early on, towards the middle part of its run it began to sink back where it actually found itself down in the bottom 5. Much of its support would come towards the last quarter which in turn saved this from such a fate. That included a near top 30 from bboat11, a top 50 from .indulgecountry, and a last-minute near top 20 from LBTrocks bumped this up over five spots in the end. At the other end we saw four bottom 5 rankings which included a last place from someguy.

"It's All in Your Head" was released in August 1996 as the third single from Diamond Rio's album IV and was a Top 15 hit for the group. The song was written by all three members of the band BlackHawk. While this found itself back down inside the bottom 10 early on into its run, a top 15 from austin pushed this outside of the bottom 30 altogether where it would remain as such until the last half the rankdown. This clocks in on the side of one of the more polarizing songs as well with castleoblivion26 becoming our second participant to lose a top 10 while five others lose a bottom 5. Of those, bigd79 sheds his last place song. The majority of the group ended up ranking this somewhere within their bottom 30.
