"No One Needs to Know" is my favorite lol so I am happy its the highest placing, but with all the negative sentiment I see here, I assume its #10. Happy to see Shania do so well with all 3 songs!

ETA: Hate the version tim posted in the reveal lol so if CLD tanked it based on that version I get it a little more. If he tanked it on this then no Yea, I have no idea why the audio included in the music video from her YouTube channel contains the altered version. Definitely prefer the original take.

🌺CountryLineDancer is still searching for taste I see! "I'm Outta Here" has always been one of my fav Shania songs, it's so dark and delicious! Glad it made the top 10 but just no to "No One Needs To Know" making it higher than this. ETA: Hate the version tim posted in the reveal lol so if CLD tanked it based on that version I get it a little more. If he tanked it on this then no Yeah, this song ain't THAT bad after all. I don't like the verse, but the chorus sounds fine. I still can't say it is on the better side of Shania, but #103 was a bit too harsh, I suppose. Still, glad No One Needs To Know outlasted this one. 1 2 4 5 11 12 13 17 20 27. Yeah, this is pretty good for my standard, and no one has to be upset with my ranking from now on

Omg YES, we've finally had another year-end rankdown where Martina wasn't eliminated in the 15-11 range!!!! I mean, I guess usually her career-defining hits have a pretty good shot at the top 10, which is a category I would definitely put "Wild Angels" in. But I was trying not to get my hopes up considering the overall strength of this year (and how often she has only barely missed the top 10 by a position or two)!!
This top 10 is absolutely PRIME real estate. What an honor for all of these remaining songs! Glad to see George as the last artist with multiple songs, as I predicted, although I would have rather "I Can Still Make Cheyenne" still be in instead of "Carried Away" (I'd rather still have all 3, but if we were only going to have two...)
Here are my predictions for the rest of this rankdown!!
10. No One Needs to Know 9. Carried Away 8. She Never Lets It Go To Her Heart 7. Wild Angels 6. It Matters to Me 5. Heads Carolina, Tails California 4. The Fear of Being Alone 3. Strawberry Wine 2. You Can Feel Bad 1. Blue Clear Sky

I am surprised You Can Feel Bad is still lingering around. Good song, but not top 10 worthy imo. That should be next to go. I predict either Strawberry Wine or Heads Carolina Tails California will take the crown

I was really hoping to have this wrapped up for you this evening, but unfortunately time got away from me and so the grand finale will have to wait until tomorrow. Until then, I'm going to post some Top 10 stats that will hold y'all over!

Howdy, y'all! This evening I will be taking you through your top 10 songs of 1996 with the top 2 songs just happening to be the least polarizing. Let's find out what song will be leaving first, shall we?!

Stats for #10:
The first song to exit the top 10 also happens to be our first to leave that remained a top 20 contender for its entire run. Only three participants ranked this outside of their top 40 with nine of those all coming from within the top 15 which includes someone's #1.

"Carried Away" was released in June 1996 as the second single from George Strait's album Blue Clear Sky and went on to become his 30th number one hit on the country charts where it remained for three consecutive weeks. The song was also one of two George Strait songs (the other being "One Night at a Time") to be nominated for Single of the Year at the 1997 Country Music Association awards. This is the first song to exit from the rankdown that remained a top 20 contender for its entire run where it was even initially in the top 5. Its first non-top 40 ranking came towards the first half which in turn pushed this back outside of the top 10. Only two more non-top 40 rankings would follow which just happened to come back-to-back from both kw9461 and someguy who actually placed this all the way down inside his bottom 20. That in turn pushed this back out of the top 15 altogether before eventually climbing its way back inside the top 10 in the final moments. All in all, eleven participants placed this somewhere within their top 20 with the majority of those all being top 15s. Unfortunately CoJoFan loses his #1 song just as we enter the top 10 with LBTrocks departing with his runner-up.

Stats for #9:
Leaving next is a song that made only one brief appearance outside of the top half which would come very early on into the rankdown. It was pretty much top 20 from there on out as it picked up six top 10 rankings as well as five top 15s.
Best rankdown position: 8 Worst rankdown position: 73 Average: 27.00 SD Rank: 36th Highest

"Wild Angels" was released in November 1995 as the second single and title track from Martina McBride's third album of the same name and reached number one on the country charts giving McBride her first number one single. Despite my initial ranking just outside of the top 10, this shot all the way back outside of the top half after gardyfan and nathanalbright followed me up with back-to-back bottom 30 rankings. It would quickly recover, however, and once inside the top 20 would remain there for the duration of the rankdown. Only two others would place this outside of their top 30 altogether with this amassing five top 15s as well as a trio of top 10s and top 5s. Of those, castleoblivion26 loses his runner-up while bboat11 loses a top 3.

Lmao I genuinely wonder how much higher Martina's total full-career year-end rankdown average would be if we implemented gardyfan's very own suggested rule of eliminating the lowest two ranks for every song I feel like it would genuinely improve by at least a couple positions!

The next song would spend the majority of its run inside the top 15 as the majority of the group all placed this somewhere in their top 30. Three participants lose a top 10 with one of those being another runner-up.

"She Never Lets It Go to Her Heart" was released in June 1996 as the fourth single from Tim McGraw's All I Want album and would go on to spend two consecutive weeks at number one on the country charts. Despite an initial start just inside the top 30, this would pick up enough support from the entire group to keep this mostly as a top 15 contender for the majority of the rankdown. Only three participants placed this outside of their top 40 with only one of those being out of the top 50. In fact, the majority all placed this somewhere within their top 30 with it garnering a trio of top 10s and a pair of top 15s and top 20s. Of those, CoJoFan is next to lose his runner-up after having also just lost his #1 song.

"Carried Away" is such a perfect '90s country song. To me it doesn't have quite the flashy catchiness of "Blue Clear Sky" or the poignant heartbreaking story of "I Can Still Make Cheyenne", which is why it is lower than both of those on my list....but it is still absolutely freaking amazing, and I will genuinely never get tired of it George's voice hits juuuuuust right with '90s country. "Wild Angels" is one of those songs that I remember hearing on the radio even though I was only like 2 when it came out. My memories of this song predate my awareness of Martina by like a full 7-8 years! It is just so catchy, and as with most of the Wild Angels era, the interplay between the steel guitar and electric guitar gives the song a musical identity where practically nothing else quite sounds like it. Would have loved to see this do a little better, but at the same time I wasn't even confident in the top 10 considering how strong this year is and how predictable her haters are, so this is still definitely a victory! She'll be in the '90s decade-end rankdown either way
