Harry Styles‘ “As It Was” soars in at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart.“As It Was” boasts the most streams for a song in its first full week since Adele’s “Easy on Me” drew 53.9 million in its first full frame, as reflected on the Oct. 30, 2021, chart. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't ATW(TV) have a bigger debut with 54.4 million in November?

Well it took four months and almost to the halfway point of the chart year but we finally got a song from 2022 to top the charts

Imagine telling us in November 2021 that a new #1 debut would actually be exciting in 5 months

Even billboard got it right on their twitter, but did not update the article (yet).

Need To Know and You Right confirmed on the chart, as Planet Her enters the 40-40-40 club:
In 4 weeks time, Woman will make it 40-40-40-40. In 8 weeks, KMM might be the 4th longest charting single on Planet Her.

Unfortunately, the radio losses are gonna kill stay long before any album drop As for "unfortunately"... If Billboard purged it and all the other ancient songs cluttering the top 20 we'd be fine and it wouldn't make Stay, Levitating or Save Your Tears any less of a hit. I'm optimistic about the drops for all of them accelerating once the summer hits start appearing. I like longevity records in the charts. That makes chart watching exciting for me, so I will continue rooting for songs like stay and heat waves.

They had to add the extra asterisk of "non-holiday" song too.
They could just say during 2022.

As It Was is a great song. Here for it being a multi week #1 hit after next week.

"No. 19 on Radio Songs. It’s the highest for a male in a lead role since Eminem’s “Just Lose It” charged in at No. 17 on the Oct. 9, 2004, chart." Well, the radio debut numbers are huge at least. Streaming is below 10+ weeks from last year.
That looks pretty balanced actually, despite haters saying it's just radio payola. #1/#3/#6 = #3

That makes chart watching exciting for me, so I will continue rooting for songs like stay and heat waves. They were more interesting when there wasn't a handful of songs rivaling all time records. But it's a reflection in the change of consumer trends and the way our consumption is measured. Streaming and radio lend themselves to more longevity for songs than any form of sales ever did.

Officially we can say, that our first #1 released in 2022 has arrived (even though we’re already like 22 weeks into the chart year, god damn).

The same thing happened in 2015, but that was a result of Uptown Funk being so big. We didn't get a new #1 until See You Again until this deep in April. Had it not been for Bad Blood interrupting, we would have not got the 2nd 2015 #1 until Can't Feel My Face in August (the original Cheerleader was in 2012).

Over/under 23.5 weeks for WDTAB? Over for sure, it's going to linger in the 10-25 range for a while. It won't be the pop culture force it was this winter but kids are going to keep streaming the song on loop à la Baby Shark so it'll keep racking up 400k+ daily Spotify streams and who knows how many "Alexa play Bwuno!" streams lol

Breakaway was only 3 weeks away (Because of you had 37 and also Behind these hazel eyes had 34) which is very impressive for 2004

I think what makes that time period more fun compared to the first few months of this year, is how in the top 10, everything underneath UF was really dynamic and interesting and even the song itself was pulling some massive numbers (along with its closest competitor which was of course Thinking Out Loud). If its run was done now with the same exact stats, it would absolutely annihilate every song on the charts (x1000) right now and i guess even comfortably surpass As It Was and First Class but the gaps on those songs would at least be smaller.

so, As It Was made a top 20 debut on Hot 100 Airplay, the first since Eminem's Just Lose It in 2004?????
Between these 2, what was the highest Hot 100 Airplay debut for a male artist?

This is probably not the right answer, but I think Can't Stop The Feeling. It debuted at #27 on radio chart based on 3 days of airplay, and after a full week it climbed to #9 (the week when it debuted at #1 on the Hot 100). Since July 2021, it's easier to debut higher on the airplay chart because they changed the rule (the airplay tracking ends on Thursday night, instead of Sunday). But, it only took 4 days for Can't Stop The Feeling and Suit & Tie to enter the top 20 on airplay (kworb's list), 6 days for Shape of You, 24k Magic...so I guess these songs would be on that list with the Friday-Thursday airplay tracking week.

Happy that we finally have a new song at the top and another one next week. But the charts have been so weak and stagnant in 2022 that we need at least five more songs in the upcoming weeks to do good streaming numbers and replace old songs in the top 10. Even after As It Was and First Class, the streaming numbers continue to be really awful. Stay is top 5 on Spotify right now with 600K streams. Exactly one year ago, it wouldn't even be top 22...
