Trust me it wouldn't be that hard. First of all it's just POP MUSIC, nothing has to fully make sense or adhere to a strict narrative/thematic framework and no one is going to care that much, lol. Even if it's just superficial or tangential themes/imagery coinciding, they could have made it work and it wouldn't have been seen as cheap or anachronous. I'm not saying it's something they definitely should have done and it was an absolute missed opportunity, but since Squid Game WAS nothing less than the biggest show on tv within the last year, it did lend itself to a huge marketing tie-in and would've been a cool route they could've gone. But even if they didn't choose Squid Game, they definitely could have come up with something better than what they did, which like many music videos just ended up being stupid, repetitive, and boring.

1. If this was any artist but the Weeknd, maybe you might have a point in it not having to adhere to a strict narrative. But EVERY music video for Dawn FM clearly has a related narrative or framework. There is obviously a planned story at play so maybe casual audiences might not care but Abel does.

2. Something being successful in one medium does not mean every other medium should/needs capitalize on it. If a music video had say Scarlett Johansson in it, it'd be weird if the video was just references to Black Widow because Scarlett Johansson is more than just Black Widow. Not to mention: what marketing tie would there be? The show is more than 6 months old at this point, all the big awards for TV are already done, all the year-end lists for the best TV shows of 2021 have been published, everyone has already seen or at least heard about the show. But this leads me to my third point...

3. They DID capitalize on Squid Game's success. They cast HoYeon Jung, who has 23M followers on IG and who got famous from Squid Game (it was her first acting job). That is enough. I highly doubt people - except for you - will be like "Oh they had the actress from Squid Game in a music video but it didn't have anything to do with the show"

It might be just me, but you spend wayyyy too much time speculating of The Weeknd's chances to get a big hit from this era. The videos don't really affect whether radio would pick up a particular song or not.

Not a great update at all for Out of Time, both on Spotify and radio. For me, the more concerning thing is that it only has 5.58M aud on radio, despite already having 4 formats. Those numbers look like disaster already.

Doja’s new single (Get Into It Yuh), for comparison, has almost the same aud with 2 formats, and a much greater gain than OOT today.

So the big story is of course Harry Styles having the first true blockbuster smash of 2022, having more streams than the #2-#5 songs combined! Harry even helped out older songs as a bunch of his hits re-entered, along with Watermelon Sugar rocketing back up with a 38% increase in streams.

In terms of our gains, Nail Tech regained by 17% with the announcement of his album and a new single, See You Again continuing to be one of the most streamed songs to never chart increasing by 10% and Poppin getting 16% thanks to Yeat dropping a deluxe for his album. And the biggest story was the Grammys giving boosts to nominated songs like Kiss Me More up 10%, family ties getting 9%, Happier Than Ever rising 19%, and it seems that last week's gains for Olivia weren't the end as a bunch of SOUR songs regained momentum thanks to the Grammys.

You love to twist my words, don’t you. I wasn’t predicting 3 Top 10 debuts. I only said that it was possible, which is far from a sure thing. It could very well end up we get two, or maybe just one, Top 10 debut when it’s all said and done.

We all know how overhyped a lot of new songs are. We'll have to see how the numbers look throughout the week obviously. There's nothing like saying that a song is a surefire top ten when it struggles to make the top 60 after the numbers shake out.

I’m still surprised it has a Spotify audience considering people on here were so quick to write Post off and this song would fade away. 5 months later, here we are with the song still being in the top 20.

"Big Energy" dropped 27.5% on YouTube's Songs chart this week, so the overall streaming numbers may end up a little lower than they were the week prior.

Considering the fact that Spotify is Post's biggest streaming platform, it's not surprising fans on there are still moderately streaming the song. It's not like he has released any new singles since then and it's been almost 3 years since his last album. It's also not like the song is unlistenable or something. It's painfully mediocre but if you ignore that, you can definitely get used to it. I'm sure radio has helped with that.
