artists don't like leaks regardless of how big their fanbase is. Dua Lipa's label had Future Nostalgia be released a few weeks in advance after it was leaked and Charli XCX cancelled an entire album after it was leaked. Neither really cared about how big of an impact or interest the leaks would have. Who know how Lil Nas X or his label would respond to if they dropped an album unannounced or ahead of schedule

Charli XCX and Dua Lipa pre Future Nostalgia were very different artists than Harry though. Those artists were hoping for a first week where the consumption was dominated by stans, while Harry appeals to casuals wayyyy more.

If a rapid fanbase downloads a leak beforehand, do they stop listening/streaming/buying an album once it’s available? I get the potential loss of those initial streams as a result of a leak, and the temperature may cool a little in terms of fans listening repeatedly to an album for the first few days/weeks from a leak versus if it didn’t leak at all, but would it really be that much anymore? Casual fans who stream aren’t going to bother. People who buy music will still buy music. People who stream will still stream once it’s legally available. (Depending on the service they use? I’m not sure. My understanding was that even if you upload your own mp3s to your Apple Music account, they contribute toward the streaming total. Does Spotify work like that?)

As someone who's interacted with a lot of people who both don't listen to leaks out of respect and people who do listen to leaks, none of them haven't not listened to the real thing when it was finally released.

I mean again, my point wasn't that they were different artists artistically, my point was that whether or not an artist has a massive fanbase or not; they hate getting their material leaked.

Sales and airplay in general were higher then, so of course songs could get more chart points than they do now.

Most of those songs also felt like much bigger cultural moments than a lot of what we have now. People I knew who didn't care at all about what was currently popular were talking about thank u, next and Old Town Road.

I would love it to be, but I don't see it having the same "moment" that All Too Well 10MVTV had unless it's like Style ft. Harry Styles or some other trick up her sleeve. I think she might, given her amazing marketing prowess and fan base, but she didn't get it with Fearless TV and didn't really try (still, her 12 year old album went number one for multiple weeks, had a mini album bomb, and was top 10 seller so Taylor's bar for success is insanely high)

As I and many others have said multiple times, there will not be another All Too Well TV. To those who think so: stop it, you're setting yourself up for disappointment. Simply put, there was too much backstory and (for a lack of a better word) lore behind All Too Well which is why it became as hotly anticipated as it was. There is no other Taylor Swift deep cut that had the legend status and hype that All Too Well had. There may never even be another hit like All Too Well TV ever again because of its circumstances

Now will 1989 TV perform absurdly well? I mean yeah, that's a given. But will it have a reinvigorated hit? I doubt it. Unless they revamp Clean, it'll just be a big album bomb
