Vinyl Release Pushes Tyler, the Creator’s ‘Call Me If You Get Lost’ Back to No. 1 on Billboard 200 Albums Chart The set scores the largest week for a hip-hop album on vinyl in the modern era.

04/24/2022Call Me earned 59,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending April 21 (up 507%), according to Luminate, formerly MRC Data. Of that sum, 51,000 were in traditional album sales — almost entirely vinyl LP sales. The vinyl edition of Call Me was sold exclusively through the artist’s webstore and sold 49,500 copies, making it the largest sales week for a hip-hop album on vinyl, or for a solo male album on vinyl, since Luminate began tracking music sales in 1991. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new April 30, 2022-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard‘s website on April 26. For all chart news, follow billboard and billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram. Of Call Me’s 59,000 equivalent album units earned, album sales comprise 51,000; SEA units comprise 8,000 (down 12%; equating to 11.54 million on-demand official streams of the set’s songs); and TEA units comprise a negligible sum. The vinyl edition of Call Me was announced on Wednesday, April 6 via Tyler, the Creator’s social media accounts, with a link directing fans to his webstore to purchase the $35 standard black double-LP set. The vinyl was initially announced without fans knowing when the album would ship out to them. Then, on Friday, April 8, it became known that the album would start shipping out on Tuesday, April 12 (in order to begin arriving to customers on Friday, April 15, the first day of the new chart’s tracking week). In total, the 49,500 vinyl copies sold of Call Me If You Get Lost mark the ninth largest sales week for a vinyl album since Luminate began tracking music sales in 1991. It’s also the biggest frame for a hip-hop set on vinyl, or a vinyl album by a male artist in that span of time. The previous largest week for a hip-hop set or solo male album on wax, since 1991, was registered by the debut frame of Kid Cudi’s Man on the Moon III: The Chosen, in December, with 41,500. The largest vinyl week, overall, since 1991, was the opening week of Taylor Swift’s Red (Taylor’s Version), with 114,000 vinyl LPs sold, last November. Notably, all physical versions of the Call Me album — vinyl, CD and cassette — have been exclusively sold through Tyler, the Creator’s official webstore. No physical versions of the album have been officially available to any other sellers in the U.S. The set has been widely available to all streaming services and digital retailers since its initial release on June 25, 2021. With Call Me’s jump back to No. 1 on the Billboard 200, it becomes the fourth album to return to the top following its vinyl release. It follows Swift’s Fearless (Taylor’s Version) (which jumped 157-1 on the Oct. 16, 2021 chart after its vinyl bow), Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour (3-1; Sept. 4, 2021) and Swift’s Evermore (74-1; June 12, 2021). Call Me has the largest jump to No. 1 since Fearless (Taylor’s Version) vaulted 157-1 (Oct. 16, 2021). Call Me was last at No. 1 nearly 10 months ago, on the July 10, 2021-dated chart. It’s the first album to wait that long between weeks at No. 1 since November of 2020, when Luke Combs’ What You See Is What You Get returned to No. 1 after nearly a year. The rest of the Billboard 200’s new top 10 is a bit sleepy, as five former No. 1s are Nos. 2-6 on the tally. Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album holds at No. 2 (50,500 equivalent album units; up 9%), Lil Durk’s 7220 falls 1-3 (43,000; down 9%), the Encanto soundtrack dips 3-4 (40,000; down 12%), Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour is steady at No. 5 (36,000; down 8%) and Drake’s Certified Lover Boy is stationary at No. 6 (30,000; down 3%). Doja Cat’s Planet Her rises 8-7 with 29,500 (up less than 1%). The Weeknd’s hits compilation The Highlights bounces 60-8 with 27,000 equivalent album units earned (up 92%). Meanwhile, his After Hours album, which re-entered the chart at No. 35 a week ago, falls off the chart. The two albums share four songs (“Blinding Lights,” “Save Your Tears,” “In Your Eyes” and “Heartless”). On the latest chart, the TEA and SEA units for the four songs contribute to The Highlights, as a song’s activity is assigned to the artist’s album with the most sales in a week. (The Highlights sold a little over 1,000 copies in the latest tracking week, while After Hours sold less than 1,000.) A week ago, the TEA and SEA for the four songs were directed to After Hours (which in that frame outsold The Highlights). In turn, with the songs’ activity contributing to The Highlights, the album rises 60-8. Rounding out the new top 10 are two former No. 1s: Gunna’s DS4Ever (rising 12-9 with 23,500 equivalent album units; down 7%) and Lil Baby’s My Turn (13-10 with 21,000 units; down 4%). Luminate, formerly MRC Data, the independent data provider to the Billboard charts, completes an exhaustive and thorough review of all data submissions used in compiling the weekly chart rankings. Luminate reviews and authenticates data, removing any suspicious or unverifiable activity using established criteria before final chart calculations are made and published. In partnership with Billboard, data deemed suspicious and unverifiable is disqualified prior to the final calculation.

Highlights and After Hours continue to play musical chairs on the charts It always feels so awkward when they need to explain why this happens.

Thanks for posting the charts, Gary.
Wet Leg has this week's biggest dropper on the Billboard 200, down 161 spots to No. 175. And dropping off the list after last week's No. 19 debut? The Encanto (Highights) album. Another top 30 entry (Father John Misty's set) drops off the chart from No. 28, though such a drop-off has become common in recent years.
The highest new entry on the Billboard 200 comes in at No. 119.
Jewel's latest album only musters a No. 89 entry on Current Albums.

According to the Artist 100 article, Moving Pictures managed to have 20k equivalent albums while re-entering at #11 in the Billboard 200, with 9k vinyl sold. That's pretty good for the 40th anniversary reissue of the album.

That album chart is pretty bizarre... Where did Nickelback and Nicki come from?

^Pink Friday debuted at No. 4 on Vinyl Albums, so that accounts for that re-entry. Sometimes reissues propel a title back on to the charts, though not sure if that happened with Nickelback. Note that Notorious B.I.G.'s compilation re-entered even higher. I know there's the Netflix documentary, though it's been out for a while.

The album re-enters Top Album Sales at No. 2 and hits No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums, Top Hard Rock Albums and Catalog Albums charts for the first time.
Rush’s Moving Pictures album, first released in 1981, makes a splash across a number of Billboard charts (dated April 30) thanks to the set’s 40th-anniversary reissue. The album re-enters Top Album Sales at No. 2 and hits No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums, Top Hard Rock Albums and Catalog Albums charts for the first time. It also re-enters the Billboard 200 at No. 11 — the band’s highest rank in nearly a decade.
Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart ranks the top-selling albums of the week based only on traditional album sales. The chart’s history dates back to May 25, 1991, the first week Billboard began tabulating charts with electronically monitored piece count information from SoundScan, now Luminate. Pure album sales were the sole measurement utilized by the Billboard 200 albums chart through the list dated Dec. 6, 2014, after which that chart switched to a methodology that blends album sales with track equivalent album units and streaming equivalent album units. For all chart news, follow billboard and billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram.
Top Rock Albums and Top Hard Rock Albums rank the week’s most popular rock and hard rock releases, respectively, by equivalent album units. Catalog Albums tallies the most popular catalog (older) albums of the week, also by units.
Moving Pictures sold 18,000 copies in the U.S. in the week ending April 21, according to Luminate, formerly MRC Data – an increase of 7,847% compared to its sales in the previous week. It marks the band’s best sales week in over six years, since R40 Live sold 24,000 copies in its debut week, when it arrived at No. 14 on Top Album Sales (Dec. 12, 2015-dated chart).
Of the 18,000 copies sold of Moving Pictures, physical sales comprise 16,500 (9,500 on vinyl and 7,000 on CD) and digital sales comprise 1,500.
The 40th-anniversary reissue of Moving Pictures was available in multiple remastered editions, including a super deluxe box set that sold for $300. All versions of the album, old and new, are combined for tracking and charting purposes.
Moving Pictures was first released in 1981 and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart – the then-highest-charting album for the band. The set went on to become the longest-charting release for Rush, spending 76 weeks on the tally. The album launched the hit singles “Limelight” and “Tom Sawyer,” both of which charted in the top 10 on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart and also dented the all-genre Billboard Hot 100. The album also scored Rush its first Grammy Award nomination, for best rock instrumental performance, for the album cut “YYZ.”
The 40th-anniversary reissue additionally pushes Moving Pictures back onto the Billboard 200, where it re-enters at No. 11 – the album’s highest rank since August 1981. Moving Pictures’ re-entry also lands Rush its highest placing on the Billboard 200 in nearly a decade, since Clockwork Angels spent two weeks in the top 10 (June 30-July 7, 2012), debuting and peaking at No. 2.
Back on the new Top Album Sales chart, Tyler, the Creator’s Call Me If You Get Lost re-enters at No. 1, following the set’s vinyl release. The album was originally released in June 2021 via streamers, digital retail and on limited-edition CD and cassette tape. In the week ending April 21, 2022, the album sold 51,000 copies – of which 49,500 were vinyl LPs. As earlier reported, the latter figure marks the largest sales week for a hip-hop album on vinyl, or for a solo male album on vinyl, since Luminate began tracking music sales in 1991.
Six former No. 1s are next up on Top Album Sales. Jack White’s Fear of the Dawn falls 1-3 in its second week (11,500; down 70%), Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Unlimited Love dips 3-4 (9,500; down 50%), Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour jumps 10-5 (though down 10% to 8,500), and Taylor Swift’s Evermore flies 74-6 (a little over 7,000; up 274%) after a surge in vinyl sales via Internet sellers. (Evermore’s vinyl sales grew 533% to 6,500 for the week, likely owed to stock replenishment for the very popular vinyl set. In 2021, it was the sixth-biggest selling vinyl album of the year, with 250,000 sold.)
Stray Kids’ Oddinary rises 13-7 (7,000; up 5%) and Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday re-enters the chart at No. 8 (nearly 7,000; up 382% — nearly all from vinyl sales) after it was reissued on vinyl for its 10th anniversary. The former No. 1 was available in three vinyl variants, including a three-LP super deluxe box set that retailed for $390.
Kurt Vile’s Watch My Moves debuts at No. 9 on Top Album Sales with 6,000 sold (marking Vile’s first top 10) and Wet Leg’s self-titled album closes out the top 10, falling 4-10 in its second week with nearly 6,000 sold (down 69%).
