Wow that's a nice bunch of certifications! The RIAA system is ridiculous though, they should award the certifications automatically like BPI does in the UK - even Taylor cannot be arsed to pay for them on a regular basis lol

I'm surprised "Firework" wasn't certified diamond as well as I remember it selling the best out of all the TD singles at one point. Firework is already Diamond - 12x Platinum as of August 2020, now it's around 14x, I think. It's one of the 10 best-selling digital singles in the US, with 7.5M copies. Dark Horse is her biggest song, some say it's eligible for 18x Platinum, some 19. Dark Horse, Roar, Firework, California Gurls, Teenage Dream and E.T. are currently her Diamond (at least) certified songs, Last Friday Night and Hot N Cold are eligible, I Kissed A Girl is very close, and The One That Got Away is eligible for 9x - she's the only artist that has 10 songs over 9M. -Adele's 21 is still the only album in the last 20 years to sell 10M pure albums. Some live TV performances probably could’ve gotten 25 to 10 million pure. I think it’s around 9.5-9.6? 21 and 25 were truly remarkable and seem unrepeatable at this point as of May 2021, 25 is at 9.6M (and 21 at 12.1M), and that was before the release of 30, so it's definitely more than 9.7M now.

However WW performs, she’ll always have her first three eras with her. The amount of success she had during those times was astronomical. Like, selling 100 M singles in the USA only with 10 singles? She really marked a generation. On another note, how i’d wish she released NRO now. With the hype as she has now it would have def been a top 10. I’m not a fan of the snippets of WW, also because i believe the topic is not what she should have gone for (even excluding the dr luke situation)

She's like Alanis Morrisette (Jagged Little Pill) in the way that her spot in history was secured with one astronomical era. A Teenage Dream comes along once in a lifetime really because it's not only about the right music, the right timing, hard work, but also about all the stars aligning perfectly, and pure luck. It's really a culmination of the perfect events lining up in the perfect sequence and that rarely ever happens. Even the music videos from that era were bigger than life and were all out events (I miss those type of videos btw). The only thing I look back on that era and wish had gone differently was the album sales (the album itself should've been diamond alone with pure sales) and them counting Confections separately.

Not that we needed it, but the "shine" lyric confirms that the leak was either AI (based on the leaked lyrics) or a very very early demo with very a very rudimentary melody. The leak leaking is possibly one of the best things to happen to the song as it makes the actual thing sound so much better than it actually is. The instrumental production is LUXURIOUS! I love it. I can't wait to hear those Katy Perry background vocals and ad libs, something she is incredible at (even the "hey")

"Dark Horse" is already over the diamond threshold, so I don't think they're in a rush to re-certify.
The biggest surprise I had looking at her certs is that "Hot N Cold" is 8x platinum and "I Kissed A Girl" only at 6x platinum (when it was arguably the bigger hit of the two at the time). The former most certainly must be close to a diamond certification (last update was 8/7/2019 for HNC and 2/13/2018 for IKAG).

Last I saw, both ‘Hot N Cold’ and ‘Last Friday Night’ are Diamond-eligible so I’m surprised neither were updated this time. I think ‘I Kissed A Girl’ is 8x or 9x Platinum-eligible.

Roar was also diamond and they updated it too, probably to secure the record. Funny thing is, Dark Horse is supposedly elegible for even more (i think 18x?) so maybe they are saving it for another moment?

What better headline going into your lead than “biggest selling female song of all time”?

IKAG had a bigger peak but HnC has held up way better I think? It sold well for way longer back in the day of the iTunes peak.

Of course she goes by the numbers what else does she have? Again very interested to see how this evolves after the song drops because so far I'd say she hasn't had the numbers since 2014 either. These are all awards and recognition for material from a decade ago or older. Nobody is denying her imperial run, even if PRISM showed some cracks that were masked by the two huge, humonguous #1 hits. I'll even give her this: if she had followed it with something similar to Smile/"Never Really Over", she would have added one more album to that consecutive smash run.

Does anyone have updated figures of her actual album sales? The last figures I saw for her best-selling album (Teenage Dream) were close to 3 million. I'm wondering where it along with Prism (which was just under 2 million) sits now. I hate how elusive numbers are these days and while I know we have certifications, I'm not the biggest fan of those as they can be padded wildly just by purchasing them (not saying hers are, just speaking generally). This figure from March 2015 has Teenage Dream at 2.97 million so it could be closer to 3.5-4 now! www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/music-news/katy-perrys-teenage-dream-spends-779972/

So yeah, it must be around 3.2-3.3 million if it moved 100k units in the 5 years between 2015-2020. Now that just leaves Prism!
