I think it is too late in her career to try something different. I think so many albums until you are pigeonholed into a certain category (for most artists). Plus, if she wanted to give us something ground breaking she would have already tried to do that. She just got comfortable with making radio fluff. All the other girlies around her time stretched their artistic legs but she kind of remained, Katy. We loved her for it though.

All of the negative press this era feels like 2017 all over again. Tbh, I wish this era was more low key like Smile. There wasn’t a barrage of negativity but there wasn’t all around praise either. It felt like a much more neutral tone and she went under the radar. I’d much rather have that than all of the mess from this era.
I know Katy said she wanted to do an acoustic album and I could be on board for that. I’d rather Katy try something different and have a low key era instead of trying to have radio hits and the public trying to tear her down. She has the huge hits that she can always fall back on, so I’d rather Katy do what she wants to do. Granted, she said she wanted to do a dance album but I have a feeling ‘143’ is gonna be more of a dance pop album instead.

It’s gonna be a great album, at least for me it will. Unfortunately most won’t even listen, or allow themselves to listen, cuz of the narrative around Dr. Luke. I know my gym ain’t ready for dis.

Well deserved! Katy has a top notch videography and it’s time she got the recognition she deserves for it.

what a joke, everyone can be a journalist today. Vanguard is literally an award for your career, not for artist or album of the year, and I think this was the perfect moment for her to get it. I just hope she doesn't perform WW tho.

She would have been better served releasing old missed smashes that still sound like hits with big single pushes over the era we appear to be getting, and I’m not even being hyperbolic. But she could’ve done something like:
Walking on Air: this summer Legendary Lovers remix with a rapper: this fall Cry About It Later: next spring
Really take her time with a new album for later next year with entirely fresh producers and writers
Legit would have had way more success with that outline than now imo.

Yeah, I can totally see her performing Lifetimes at the end, unless she doesn't release something else before the VMAs. The Vanguard performance is usually around 10min, so she can comfortably perform like 8 songs? My guess (if she wants to acknowledge every era): Hot N Cold > Teenage Dream > Firework > Roar > Dark Horse > Chained To The Rhythm > Never Really Over > Lifetimes I Kissed A Girl, California Gurls, E.T., Part Of Me definitely a possibility, she's not a huge fan of TGIF so I don't think she'll perform it, and based on the vibe of this new era and Katy, TOTGA, Wide Awake and Unconditionally are probably out too. She didn't perform Hot N Cold on SB, sooo not sure about that one, I'd love to see it since it's one of my faves from her, HIH might be a surprise too, or maybe I'm delusional lol.

This may sound a bit delulu, but I was thinking of this general idea earlier and how much I would love for situations like "Running Up That Hill" and "Cruel Summer" to become a regular deal. Like old, previously overlooked gems getting their chance to really hit it big ?! Maybe even labels choosing to send some out? I would absolutely be all for it!

Like old, previously overlooked gems getting their chance to really hit it big ?! Maybe even labels choosing to send some out? I would absolutely be all for it! I think this may be our new future, it's now hard to come up with something new, imagine in 10-15 years. I mean, you can always sample or cover someone's older stuff, but it's cheaper to release or re-release something from your discography, I guess lol. Running Up That Hill, Cruel Summer, Die For You, Unstoppable, Under The Influence, Murder On The Dancefloor, Unwritten, Bloody Mary, Dreams, Bye Bye Bye...the list is huge, and these songs were either huge on TikTok or included in some big TV shows and movies, I can totally see artists releasing/re-releasing their old material on purpose in the near future. well, she didn't SAY IT, but I think it's kinda obvious from this clip: Aweee nooo! These are mostly about her music videos, but you can also hear something about albums, writing, anecdotes, inspiration behind some songs, etc. Hope this helps: There's also one interview from 4 years ago, where she had to pick between her two songs, but it's on Facebook, and it's harder to find it via the link, but basically it was: Teenage Dream > I Kissed A Girl Roar > Teenage Dream Roar > Hot N Cold Roar > California Gurls Roar > Swish Swish Firework > Roar Firework > This Is How We Do Firework > Part Of Me Firework > Never Really Over Firework > Wide Awake Firework > Dark Horse (hesitated a bit) Firework > Roar

Is there a list of all her Diamond singles and potential next certification levels they can reach? Katy really stuck Titanium from 2010 to 2013. She will be booked and blessed forever based on those years itself, even knowing the negative press she’s been getting lately. ETA: Eloqueen™ as per Katy’s latest post on Instagroom she is indeed going to perform Lifetimes it seems, exciting (?)

It’s fun to think about for sure! Just imagine the possibilities. “The Second Chance Era” or something. Honestly, you’ll never convince me WOA isn’t up there with Firework, Roar, and DH as her biggest hit if released back then, and Prism wasn’t every bit TD 2.0 in terms of number of massive smash hits. They just screwed it up with the singles. The momentum of Roar to DH to WOA as the first 3 singles would’ve been insane and probably taken her to a new success plateau likely not even reached during the TD era. Then you have the easy 4th #1 smash of Legendary Lovers all ready to go and the sleeper smash of the album, Ghost. And even though it’s corny, International Smile had big LFN of the album vibes, and was total radio bait. So there’s your TD 2.0 era, almost perfectly replicated (not counting the deluxe edition singles). I really do believe WOA still sounds like a hit waiting to happen to this day. Absolutley. This decade has proved over and over that old songs that sound like hits absolutely still can be. No reason for labels and artists to act like they missed their shot forever anymore with a song that sounds like a smash that got left on the table.

Still so strange why she is performing a song she’s not promoting on radio or streaming.
