Them floaters on her lips and chest I thought I would've stanned until I clicked play and her that squeaky valley girl fake voice
I'm not sure who Katy Perry target audience is but Trish pyatas is not IT. She is problematic lol

^ Oh Lord please tell me she is not coming again with a corny/cheesy/"quirky-kooky" video? The "Swish Swish" debacle was more than enough. We need a modern, sleek, sexy, stylish vid Katy!

Ok the video clip and snippet that dropped today have restored all faith. Classic Teenage and Prism Katy Perry. She finally has that fire in her eyes back too.

Maybe it's just me, but idk. The visuals, particularly the humor displayed moreso, ages Katy. It's very millenial-coded and I don't think it will play well with young audiences. I think it's right on track for Katy Kats and maybe people around her age, but to have a big hit, she's going to need the young crowd too. Just because this type of humor worked once before ("Roar", "Dark Horse") doesn't mean it will again. I think that is what helped kill her reputation around Witness ("Swish Swish", "Bon Appetit" mv). People found her kooky-quirky humor pretty off-putting then. Who knows though, maybe time has changed? Regardless, fingers crossed it goes well.

I grew up watching music videos all the time, and now even I don't care about them, only once or twice just to visualize the song.

only once or twice just to visualize the song. And that is what concerns me: the idea the visual for the song and start of the era is connected to an image that once turned a lot of people off. Like I said, maybe it's just me. I just want her to take a new approach this time around, which I think is what's needed if she wants to be successful again. I'm not saying it's gonna kill the era or song or anything, just that we're heading in the wrong direction, going back instead of forward.

I love the imagery of this new era and very curious to hear what the songs sound like.
I've been listening to Katy's music all day. Her top 10 songs:
1. Roulette 2. The One That Got Away 3. Cry About It Later 4. Harleys In Hawaii 5. Never Really Over 6. Dark Horse 7. Dance With The Devil 8. Unconditionally 9. E.T. 10. Tsunami
Honorable Mentions: Chained To The Rhythm, 365, Bon Appetit, Legendary Lovers, Roar.

Yeah, because of the shock factor and people were endlessly mocking it. Not because it's an amazing video. Plus all the Migos collaboration drama and SNL cringe. That video was centralized during a period where the peak "Katy Perry is over/cringe" pivot/dive took place. Yesssssss at the "Roulette" appreciation!! That's my fav from Witness and one of my fav Katy songs period. Huge missed single opportunity with that one!

Idk...I can't imagine THAT many people just hate-watching a video, as bored as society seems to be. It's a pretty wacky video (but I really like weird and disturbing and that is the vibe it gave me) and maybe a lot of people watching agree. When she started getting kneaded and stretched out, I die every time. Same with when that pole comes up. Also, it was the debut of short-hair!!

When she started getting kneaded and stretched out, I die every time. Same with when that pole comes up. Also, it was the debut of short-hair!! I didn't say they necessarily hate-watched it at all, just that most were shocked/found it odd/weird/off-putting. I remember watching countless reaction videos that were like "wtf is this?" "Are they twisting her legs"? Couple that with the fact it was the debut of her pixie cut, was the focal point of the period during the whole SNL debacle and Katy getting a ton of backlash for working with Migos (who were notoriously homophobic) and this, for a lot of people, was the visual representation of Katy's career pivoting from pop Goddess to cringy/over. It doesn't surprise me it got so many views as she and it were everywhere for all the wrong reasons. I mean, it did help effectively kill her career? lol Or are we saying 1.3 billion video views means it was a hit and people loved it now? Everyone has their own interpretation I suppose. I just never saw people praising/loving "Bon Appetit" (song or video) then or now (outside of her loyalest fans of course).

1.3 billion views. Who cares why? It's still 1.3 billion views. Sigh. Hello again Max. Theoretically I don't care about the views in the first place, I wasn't the one who brought them up. I was strictly speaking on Katy's quirky humor and persona that played a role in her decline during the Witness era. That music video's views were then posted to counter that point, which it did not. So, yeah, the views, and the performance of the song and music video is irrelevant to me.

If a discussion involves an artists' waning popularity, stats and numbers kind of... do play into that?

If a discussion involves an artists' waning popularity, stats and numbers kind of... do play into that? And yet you just said "who cares why"... You attributed the views to a hate/cringe campaign. I mean, maybe that's true, but it seemed (to me) to be diminishing or downplaying the numbers due to something negative. 1.3B is nothing to sneeze at.

^LMAO not that narrative from a few split second clips.
But where’s that energy for the thousands of other music videos that fit the mold?
