I like the production on this, but still hoping there are better songs on the album.

Sorry but cannot accept the pointless use of Gypsy Woman here.

I listened to it on Spotify while running this morning. It sounded more like a Doechii song featuring Katy to be honest. I wasn't fully convinced about the sample either. It's such a dance/pop classic to me that it took time to get used to hear it here. I wonder how new generations of younger fans who don't know the classic feel about it. Perhaps great as a totally new thing? I didn't expect to find already a video for the song. Not bad!... but mid way into the video I was already feeling it was too long for me and needed it to end.

I like the song more after seeing the video. I could see this streaming better than the previous two songs.

I just don’t understand how she thought these songs were comeback material…
Nor why the hell Dr. Luke also gave her these and he’s well aware of what they were capable of creating in the past if they were gonna do a controversial reunion. These songs are even below the output he’s been making with other artists in recent years, let alone something to give arguably the biggest collaborator of his entire career.

It’s a Doechii song that would be improved dramatically if Katy simply weren’t on it, lbr. She needs to ditch the faux hip-hop sound, Dark Horse is the only time it hasn’t seemed cringe from her.

The best visuals of the era so far (not saying much) and I do like the song more in full than the clips (probably the strongest of the 3). Still doesn't feel strong enough to hit the way she needs it to unfortunately. Me liking the song more in full does give me hope for the others I haven't heard yet!

Probably the best release so far. It had a familiar sample and it’s more laid-back and not so in your face. That makes it less jarring and better for easy listening. Still, she’s trying to be a main radio pop girl 15 years into her career, which itself is kind of unprecedented so not surprised at the continued lukewarm response.

For someone with the ability to write incredible pop songs, she sure is releasing some crap.

Yeah, like even Luke, controversy aside, is faring worse than usual. Some of his recent hits worked and charted well because they were undeniable pop gems. He's giving Katy leftovers and scraps.

I feel like the issue isn't just Katy, but her producers as well as I feel Katy is only as strong as the instrumental she's given to work with (she typically writes to tracks). Some of her best/biggest hits were the product of producers (like the instrumentals for "Teenage Dream" and "E.T." came to her already fully constructed). She typically had a good ear for an anthemic beat, but she seems lacking these days in that department.

This is what I will never understand, ever. Like, is he punishing her for making cds without him briefly?

This is what I will never understand, ever. Like, is he punishing her for making cds without him briefly? Given his reputation and overall decline, there's no way that narcissist is going to sabotage what little work he does have attached to a big name, chance at success, and potentially future big royalties to penalize Katy. Sometimes the simplest answer is the one and in this case, somehow, I think everyone in the camp thought these tracks were top-notch (which shows they're all still living in 2013).

It's a testament to how much Kesha killed his image that people believe he's in any sort of "little work" stage. He still profits directly from Doja Cat and Becky G, even without production credits. Then he has his publishing company Prescription Songs, he gets a cut out of all the songwriters still there (several of the 143 people are from there, which is why I believe he didn't actually work all that much here, he's just contractually obligated to be credited due to his alums working here, like it happened with Planet HER).
Emily Warren alone is one of the unsung heroes of pop songwriting in recent years and she's under Prescription Songs (she has credits with Lizzo, Chainsmokers, Dua Lipa, Shakira, Kygo, Kim Petras, Sia, Paris Hilton, etc...). Add the royalties from any and all hits he did including Kesha, Kelly Clarkson, etc... and it's unlikely he's in any sort of need to get any meaningful hits.
But yeah overall I do agree the best explanation is simply that they thought they cooked good and actually failed.
BTW, Bonnie McKee was probably not invited to the 143 camp because she managed to leave Prescription Songs a while back. She's probably persona non grata for Luke which sadly meant no more "Teenage Dream" magic with her and Katy.

Well I wouldn't necessarily call Becky G a big name and Doja is under contract, didn't he discover her? When I insinuated he wasn't getting much work I prefaced that with "big names" as I don't believe for a moment he would sabotage his own potential success for not being included on a singular album and we don't see Dr. Luke writing for really much, if any of the bigger singers/artists as of late (for good reason). There's a reason Doja is the one reoccurring name (well her and Kim) when Luke's recent production credits are mentioned. lol ETA: I was shocked reading an article earlier when the author mentioned Katy not having a hit in 10 years. I thought no way it has been that long! Then I was like wait, what about "Never Really Over" and realized its been nearly 5 years since that. For some reason this timing is shocking to me. I had no idea respectively 10 and 5 years had passed between those moments. Time is flyyyyyyyying by.

I do agree with you that a lot big names will not work with him without an NDA and a credit removal; which is why people were so reluctant to believe the rumours about Katy having him on 143 at first lol. I'm not sure how much Becky has left on her contract as she has publicly said she doesn't like working with him and even sued him one time. Doja will for sure move on as soon as she's able to as well. It's gonna be just Katy and Kim soon (again, publicly, I'm sure a lot of his work has gone released with edited credits and only recently he has gotten the balls/confidence/support to demand credit again). Oh and I do expect Nicki to call him when she needs another pop hit. She truly gives no fucks about it lol.

Hopefully this era convinces Katy to leave Luke alone and swap him out with new producers and she brings back Bonnie. I doubt it though as she doesn't really listen to anyone as she said (for better or for worse apparently). I love me some Nicki, but yeah, I mean she's literally married to a rapist and helped bully his victim so...plus people expect scandal from her I think. lol

You need a certain personality to pull of this type of song but it fell flat for me. The music so far everything else aside is the weakest I've seen from her

I’m telling yall, I really think Luke just AI’d a lot of this music for her. WW continues to sound like the fakest real song I’ve heard.

For the first time since this era kicked off that I'm seeing mostly positive reactions.
I hope the label really capitalizes on this initial buzz for IHHM. This could be another "Dark Horse" moment.
