Honestly the fact that this even managed to get this high on pop radio was insane, and no matter what Summer 2022 will always belong to Kate Bush. Lizzo, Bad Bunny and Harry Styles absolutely dominated the radio this summer but I feel like RUTH's ubiquity this past summer will always be remembered when people look back. The same way We Don't Talk About Bruno was ubiquitous this last winter.
The Hot 100 is weak enough that hopefully Kate can push to #1, but if it doesn't that's alright. Now I'm wondering if the success of this song will push Kate to release some new music.

RUTH doesn't need to be #1, this 2022 chart run was already miraculous and well deserved. Would be really cool if she could pull it off, though.
Also, it would be a good move for Bush's labels to think about sending "December Will Be Magic Again" to radio in late November. It would be perfectly timed. Would also be great if that got a streaming release too.

I'm hoping the losses were just exacerbated by the labour day weekend and it isn't going to keep falling at this pace.

I'm hoping the losses were just exacerbated by the labour day weekend and it isn't going to keep falling at this pace. Wonder if the callouts haven't been as good. Especially considering her label is making one last post with the multiple CD and vinyl singles to try to get it to #1. You have to wonder what comes next, somebody said they're going to push "Cloudbusting" as the next single on the "Mediabase Top 50" thread. "Rubberband Girl" would work too. We need a Kate Bush compilation to come before the year is up, so people can finally catch up on all of her music before she puts out a new album.

Nope, they should release "Army Dreamers", "Babooshka", "The Big Sky", "This Woman's Work" or "Blow Away (For Bill)".

I seriously doubt anything released as a follow up to this would do well.

Yeah, this is more of one off thing. Unless weโre seeing a significant interest in another song.

I seriously doubt anything released as a follow up to this would do well. Probably but doesnโt hurt to try after this huge success. I think Cloudbusting or Hounds of Love could at least go top 40 on Alt & Hot AC.

I swear we chart watchers get so greedy sometimes. There's not gonna be a push for another song, this picked up organically without them actually trying.

Queen released "We Are The Champions" as the follow up to "Bohemian Rhapsody" in 1992, it went no 52 on US Hot Billboard.

Queen released "We Are The Champions" as the follow up to "Bohemian Rhapsody" in 1992, it went no 52 on US Hot Billboard. Completely different situation, though. Queen was an already iconic and massively successful band who were experiencing a resurgence in interest after the Wayne's World exposure. Queen saw this resurgence yet again after their biopic just a few years ago. Kate herself isn't the one experiencing a resurgence in popularity, just this song is. You can tell by the fact that this is the only song of hers experiencing any major attention on streaming and sales outlets. I would love to be proven wrong, but I'm confident that there just isn't any interest in Kate herself from the general public. They just really like this song after hearing it in a popular show multiple times. This isn't a past hit getting popular again and fueling interest in the artist, this is people discovering a song they assuredly aren't familiar with beforehand, which doesn't always translate to prolonged success for the artist.

"This Womans Work" is a classic in US as well, it went top 20 in RnB chart by Maxwell, so I am starting to think they should give that song a try as in US it is rather easy to get some exposure for the follow up to a big hit.

I think we are underestimating how narrow-minded and apathetic the average chr/pop listener is. Only a small minority of us keep track of the charts on boards like this. 150 million or so listeners might hear the song and like it, but they do not know who Kate Bush is. They have never heard โWuthering Heightsโ and if they did, they would have no idea that it was in reference to a novel by Emily Brontรซ. Chr/Pop is not a sophisticated audience. Chr/Pop is not an audience that is typically interested or passionate about music or art. Most chr listeners probably think this is a song by Millie Bobby Brown, star of Stranger Things and former husband of Whitney Houston. That is mentally what we are working with here.

Kate Bush's 1985 hit Running Up That Hill was the UK's song of the summer, says the Official Chart Company.
The song's improbable but inspiring resurgence came after it featured in the TV show Stranger Things, bringing it to a new generation of fans.
They streamed it 86.6 million times between June and August, more than any other song.
Running Up That Hill was also the most downloaded song of the summer, with 42,000 sales.
The song originally appeared on Bush's celebrated fifth album Hounds Of Love.
On its first release, it peaked at number three in the charts - but the momentum of Stranger Things propelled it to number one in June, breaking three records in the process.
Bush, who is 63, became the oldest woman to top the UK singles chart, overtaking Cher, who was 52 when Believe hit number one in 1998.
She also achieved the longest gap between number one singles, with 44 years having elapsed since her debut, Wuthering Heights; and Running Up That Hill's 37-year journey to the top was the longest in chart history.
"The response to Running Up That Hill is something that has had its own energy and volition," said Bush at the time. "We've all been astounded to watch the track explode!"
The song managed to beat tracks by Harry Styles, Lizzo and George Ezra to become the UK's song of the summer. Dance music featured heavily in the best-sellers list, with LF System's summer anthem Afraid To Feel at number three; and Beyoncรฉ's tribute to house music Break My Soul at number eight.
