06/5/2022Harry Styles’ Harry’s House holds atop the Billboard 200 albums chart (dated June 11) for a second week, following its debut at No. 1 a week ago. The set earned 160,500 equivalent album units (down 69%) in the U.S. in the week ending June 2, according to Luminate. It launched with 521,500 units. Harry’s House is the first album to spend its first two weeks on the chart at No. 1 since Adele’s 30 spent its first six weeks atop the list (charts dated Dec. 4, 2021-Jan. 8, 2022). Also in the new top 10, Def Leppard scores its eighth top 10 album on the Billboard 200 with the debut of Diamond Star Halos. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new June 11, 2022-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard‘s website on June 7. For all chart news, follow billboard and billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram. Of Harry’s House’s 160,500 equivalent album units earned, album sales comprise 56,500 (down 83%), SEA units comprise 102,500 (down 46%; equaling 134.36 million on-demand streams of the set’s tracks) and TEA units comprise 1,500 (down 33%). Four former No. 1s are next up on the Billboard 200, as Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti is a non-mover at No. 2 with 141,500 equivalent album units (down 9%), Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers is a non-mover at No. 3 with 89,500 units (down 7%), Future’s No. 1 I Never Liked You is stationary at No. 4 with 68,000 units (down 12%) and Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album rises 6-5 with 53,500 units (up 4%). Following its release on vinyl, Doja Cat’s Planet Her jumps 12-6 with 41,500 equivalent album units (up 60%). It sold 16,500 copies on vinyl. (It debuted at its No. 2 high in 2021.) Zach Bryan’s American Heartbreak falls 5-7 in its second week with 40,500 units (down 43%) and Olivia Rodrigo’s former No. 1 Sour is stationary at No. 8 with 39,000 units (up 20%) following the release of deluxe one-year anniversary editions of the album. Jack Harlow’s Come Home the Kids Miss You dips 7-9 with 34,500 units (down 15%). Def Leppard scores the Billboard 200’s highest debut as its latest studio effort, Diamond Star Halos, launches at No. 10 — scoring the rock band its eighth top 10 album. The set bows with 34,000 equivalent album units earned. Of that sum, album sales comprise 32,000; SEA units comprise 2,000 (equaling 2.7 million on-demand official streams of the album’s songs) and TEA units comprise less than 500 units. Def Leppard notched its first top 10 on the Billboard 200 with Pyromania, which peaked at No. 2 in 1983. The act has since visited the top 10 with Hysteria (No. 1 for six weeks in 1988), Adrenalize (No. 1 for five weeks in 1992), Retro Active (No. 9; 1983), Rock of Ages: The Definitive Collection (No. 10; 2005), Songs From the Sparkle Lounge (No. 5; 2008), a self-titled album (No. 10; 2015) and now Diamond Star Halos (No. 10). ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Flies Into Top 10 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales & Soundtracks Charts The set is bolstered by new songs from Lady Gaga and OneRepublic.
By Keith Caulfield
06/6/2022
Paramount Pictures / Courtesy Everett Collection The Top Gun: Maverick soundtrack debuts in the top 10 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales and Soundtracks charts (dated June 11), alongside the hit film’s blockbuster opening in U.S. movie theaters. Both the soundtrack and film were released in the U.S. on Friday, May 27. Top Gun: Maverick starts at No. 2 on the Soundtracks tally and No. 7 on Top Album Sales. The set – bolstered by new songs from Lady Gaga and OneRepublic – launches with just over 21,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending June 2, according to Luminate. Of that sum, nearly 12,000 were in album sales. Top Gun: Maverick is the sequel to the 1986 film Top Gun, which saw its soundtrack spend five weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. (The original Top Gun soundtrack returns to Billboard’s charts in the wake of Maverick’s release, re-entering at No. 11 on the Soundtracks chart and No. 25 on Top Album Sales.) Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart ranks the top-selling albums of the week based only on traditional album sales. The chart’s history dates back to May 25, 1991, the first week Billboard began tabulating charts with electronically monitored piece count information from SoundScan, now Luminate. Pure album sales were the sole measurement utilized by the Billboard 200 albums chart through the list dated Dec. 6, 2014, after which that chart switched to a methodology that blends album sales with track equivalent album units and streaming equivalent album units. Billboard’s Soundtracks chart ranks the most popular soundtracks of the week based on equivalent album units. The new June 11, 2022-dated charts will be posted in full on Billboard‘s website on June 7. For all chart news, follow billboard and billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram. On the new Billboard 200, Top Gun: Maverick debuts at No. 17 – the highest debut for a soundtrack in over a year. (The last soundtrack to start higher was Judas and the Black Messiah, which bowed at No. 12 on the Feb. 27, 2021-dated chart.) Top Gun: Maverick sold nearly 12,000 copies in its first week in the U.S. CD sales comprise 7,000 of that sum and digital downloads comprise 5,000. A vinyl release for the album is due out on Nov. 18. Elsewhere on Top Album Sales, Harry Styles’ Harry’s House is a non-mover at No. 1 for a second week, following its debut atop the list a week prior. The set sold 56,500 copies in its second week (down 83% compared to its launch of 330,000). Rock band Def Leppard see its new studio album Diamond Star Halos debut at No. 2 on Top Album Sales with 32,000 sold. Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers chart-topping vaults from No. 20 to No. 3 in its third week on Top Album Sales with 27,500 copies sold (up 745%), following its release on CD and in deluxe boxed sets on May 27. Doja Cat’s Planet Her re-enters Top Album Sales at No. 4 with 17,000 sold (up 3,188%) after its release on vinyl LP (nearly all of its sales for the week were on vinyl). TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s former No. 1 Minisode 2: Thursday’s Child falls 2-5 with just over 16,000 sold (down 44%). Olivia Rodrigo’s chart-topper Sour is pushed down 3-6 despite a gain of 102% to 16,000, following the release of new editions of the album to celebrate its one-year anniversary. Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city climbs 11-8 with 5,000 sold (down 9%), Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours rises 12-9 with nearly 5,000 (down 3%) and Nirvana’s Nevermind zooms 37-10 with almost 5,000 (up 99%). The latter’s increase is owed in part to sales of a new super deluxe vinyl boxed set that sells for $260. In the week ending June 2, there were 1.726 million albums sold in the U.S. (down 10.9% compared to the previous week). Of that sum, physical albums (CDs, vinyl LPs, cassettes, etc.) comprised 1.354 million (down 12.6%) and digital albums comprised 372,000 (down 3.9%). There were 610,000 CD albums sold in the week ending June 2 (down 13% week-over-week) and 734,000 vinyl albums sold (down 11.6%). Year-to-date CD album sales stand at 13.949 million (down 12.1% compared to the same time frame a year ago) and year-to-date vinyl album sales total 16.311 million (up 4%). Overall year-to-date album sales total 39.338 million (down 8% compared to the same year-to-date time frame a year ago). Year-to-date physical album sales stand at 30.474 million (down 4%) and digital album sales total 8.863 million (down 19.5%).

Kate Bush Earns First Billboard No. 1 Album Thanks to ‘Stranger Things’ Boost 'Hounds of Love' crowns Top Alternative Albums.
BY KEVIN RUTHERFORD
KKate Bush achieves her first No. 1 on a Billboard albums chart with Hounds of Love, which debuts atop the June 11-dated Top Alternative Albums survey.
The set, originally released in 1985, bows thanks to the rejuvenation of its opening song, “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God),” which appears in multiple episodes of the new season of Netflix’s Stranger Things, which premiered May 27. (Top Alternative Albums began in 2007.)
In the May 27-June 2 tracking week, Hounds earned 17,000 equivalent album units, surging by 2,086%, according to Luminate.
Bush previously reached Top Alternative Albums with two other titles, peaking at No. 9 in 2011 with 50 Words for Snow and No. 5 in 2016 with The K Fellowship Presents: Before the Dawn.
Hounds concurrently enters at No. 4 on Top Rock Albums, Bush’s best rank, after Dawn peaked at No. 11. On the all-genre Billboard 200, the LP returns at No. 28, a new best after previously rising as high as No. 30 in December 1985. It ties Bush’s No. 28-peaking 1993 set The Red Shoes for her highest career placement.
Although much of the album’s success in the latest tracking week is attributable to “Hill,” each of the songs from Hounds made sales and streaming gains as listeners either returned to or discovered the 1985 full-length. Leading the way after “Hill” – which drew 17.5 million official U.S. streams and sold 18,300, each up from nominal sums – “Cloudbusting” earned 297,000 streams, up 596% week-over-week.
Elsewhere, “Hill” crowns the Alternative Streaming Songs, Rock Streaming Songs, Alternative Digital Song Sales and Rock Digital Song Sales charts. Bush scores her first No. 1 on each survey and first appearance on all but Alternative Digital Song Sales, on which she previously ranked with catalog tracks “This Woman’s Work” (No. 19, February 2021) and “Cloudbusting” (No. 22, August 2019).
On the all-format Digital Song Sales and Streaming Songs rankings, “Hill” enters at Nos. 1 and 6, respectively.
“Hill” starts at No. 2 on the multi-metric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Alternative Songs charts, her first appearance on both lists. As previously reported, the song also makes a No. 8 re-entry on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, exceeding the song’s previous peak of No. 30 in November 1985 and marking Bush’s first top 10 on the tally.
More weeks on the aforementioned charts are likely for “Hill” and Hounds as the song continues to stream and sell strongly so far in the June 3-9 tracking week, reflecting next week’s June 18-dated rankings.

Thanks, Gary.
Physical appeared on Top Album Sales prior to this week? Where have I been. :)
Biggest Billboard 200 dropper this week? Pusha T's It's Almost Dry, down 118 spots to No. 163.
The Stranger Things soundtrack sold more copies than Hounds of Love- doesn't that go against the usual rules, that the lesser-selling album sharing a track got the streaming/sales points from "Running Up That Hill"?

Just realized that Wilco's album didn't chart at all due to being digital only.

We can take a moment and appreciate how Luke Combs has two albums in top 20 again. This One's for You must be close to 4 million by now?

Thanks, Gary. Physical appeared on Top Album Sales prior to this week? Where have I been. This week was for vinyl Last November apparently was the other time Otherwise Physical has 0 catalog weeks and has not charted since its initial run

Def Leppard Debuts at No. 1 on Top Hard Rock Albums Chart With ‘Diamond Star Halos’ The album is the band's first ruler since its eponymous 2015 set.
BY KEVIN RUTHERFORD
DDef Leppard reaches No. 1 on Billboard‘s Top Hard Rock Albums chart for a fourth time with its new set Diamond Star Halos, which opens atop the survey dated June 11.
In the May 27-June 2 tracking week, Halos earned 34,000 equivalent album units, according to Luminate. Of that sum, 32,000 units are via album sales.
The venerable British band first ruled Top Hard Rock Albums, which began in 2007, with 2008’s Songs From the Sparkle Lounge. 2011’s Mirrorball: Live & More followed, and in 2015, the group led with its self-titled 11th studio set.
Concurrently, Halos starts at No. 2 on Top Rock Albums.
On the all-format Billboard 200, the new set bows at No. 10, marking Def Leppard’s eighth top 10. Here’s a recap, dating to the band’s first nearly 40 years ago.
Def Leppard’s Billboard 200 Top 10s
Pyromania, No. 2 peak, May 1983 Hysteria, No. 1 for six weeks, beginning July 1988 Adrenalize, No. 1 for five weeks, beginning April 1992 Retro Active, No. 9, October 1993 Rock of Ages: The Definitive Collection, No. 10, June 2005 Songs From the Sparkle Lounge, No. 5, May 2008 Def Leppard, No. 10, November 2015 Diamond Star Halos, No. 10, June 2022 The lead single from Halos, “Kick,” hit No. 34 on Mainstream Rock Airplay, the band’s first appearance on the list since “Four Letter Word” reached No. 30 in 2003. Another song from the new album, “Fire It Up,” concurrently rises 23-18 on the multi-metric Hot Hard Rock Songs chart with 833,000 official U.S. streams.

recordyear- while it missed the Billboard 200, Wilco's album did chart at No. 39 on Album Sales.
Gary- ah yes. I had forgotten about the CD release of the 40th anniversary edition. That's what led to Physical debuting on Album Sales in the fall.

Def Leppard, Paul McCartney & All the Acts With Billboard 200 Top 10 Albums Each Decade Since the ’80s The band is only the third group to notch a new top 10 album in each decade from the 1980s onward.

Anton Corbijn* Def Leppard joins an elite group of acts – and is one of just three groups – with a newly charting top 10 title on the Billboard 200 albums chart in the 1980s, ‘90s, 2000s, ‘10s and now the ‘20s. The band’s latest studio effort, Diamond Star Halos, bows at No. 10 on the June 11-dated list.
Def Leppard scored its first Billboard 200 top 10 with Pyromania, which first reached the tier on the March 12, 1983-dated tally, eventually peaking at No. 2 on the May 14, 1983, chart. The group hit the top 10 once more in the 1980s with Hysteria, which started its top 10 run on Aug. 29, 1987, and began a six-week run at No. 1 on the July 23, 1988, chart.
In the 1990s, the British band visited the top 10 twice, with Adrenalize (No. 1 for five weeks in 1992) and Retro Active (No. 9, 1993). In the 2000s, the group again collected a pair of top 10s, with Rock of Ages: The Definitive Collection (No. 10, 2005) and Songs From the Sparkle Lounge (No. 5, 2008). In the 2010s, the act sent its self-titled studio set to No. 10 in 2015.
As Def Leppard — who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in its 2019 class — extends its streak to a fifth decade with a new Billboard 200 top 10, here’s a look at all the acts that have linked such a run so far dating to the ’80s.
Acts With New Top 10 Albums on the Billboard 200 Chart in the 1980s, ‘90s, 2000s, ‘10s & ‘20s:
AC/DC Def Leppard Paul McCartney Metallica Ozzy Osbourne Robert Plant Prince Bruce Springsteen James Taylor AC/DC, Def Leppard and Metallica are the only groups to achieve the distinction above.
Meanwhile, McCartney (including his work with Wings), Springsteen and Taylor’s streaks stretch back six decades to the ’70s, and that’s not counting the output of, and McCartney’s driving contributions to, The Beatles, who landed 17 top 10 sets on the Billboard 200 in the ’60s (and 15 more since).

The list could of course get longer, Barbra Streisand has not charted that high this decade (Release Me 2 got to #15) When Madonna releases something that will also add to the list MJ for Thriller's 40th anniversary is another one
lots of catalog artists who were banned from charting in the 90s and 00s would be on here too

The Stranger Things soundtrack sold more copies than Hounds of Love- doesn't that go against the usual rules, that the lesser-selling album sharing a track got the streaming/sales points from "Running Up That Hill"?I was wondering about that too. My only guess is that this rule only applies to greatest hits compilations. Or for some reason they might be making a special exception here.

Stranger Things Soundtrack is entirely comprised of previously released music by various artists which is what made it ineligible to have any streams count.
Allowing it to have streaming units would be similar to allowing NOW! Compilations to get the streams from the 30 radio hits on them.
This is also why I believe Encanto's Highlight Vinyl did not get any streams when it charted separately despite selling more than the Soundtrack.
