This is not about standom. Nobody thinks Beyoncé is OWED an award. She's been deserving of AOTY three times now and has lost to less remarkable albums each time. It's reaching peak levels of parody. As for Beyoncé getting shout-outs, she's a veteran in the industry that's inspired numerous generations of artists at this very show. If people want to fawn over their favs, who cares? I really don't understand why that bothers people so much. You can’t be bothered unless you’re bothered.

I think my problem isn't Beyoncé losing (even Blue Ivy has a Grammy, that family doesn't really need any more awards tbh), but they picked the blandest choice.
I wasn't even rooting for Lemonade to be honest. I like that 25 beat it. But they really should have cut their losses and awarded selftitled back in the day over Beck.
Anyways it's the Grammys. Less relevant with each passing year.

I personally find it hard to believe that Beyonce is under awarded, when in the most recent award ceremony she just passed the record for most awarded person in the history of the National Recording Academy. There's just a certain level to this that I think is hard to really swallow on the face of it, when arguments come out that Beyonce has been snubbed, when there are other artists who are completely shut out of the process in very real ways (e.g. The Weekend).
Beyonce's win rate is actually the highest of her respective peers. When you look at other acts who started in the late 90's no one has been rewarded more than her. Even white women in the industry have maybe a 16th of her overall wins: Brandy, Monica, Aaliyah, Britney, Christina, Mandy, Jessica, Katy, Gaga, Kelly, Rihanna, etc. All have worse showings than her in total, and also in the general field categories. Even male figures like Usher, Justin Timberlake, and John Mayer have worse showings than her in total, and I think even in general field categories.
The only individuals who have "bested" Beyonce, are anomalies like Taylor and Adele themselves, which I actually just think comes from Adult Contemporary/Rock music having a stronger hold on the academy than "urban" music. Could that be argued as racist? Of course, but I also think it's worth noting that the Academy has also many a time gone out of their way to award Beyonce as much as possible compared to her contemporaries. Mariah and Whitney also are under awarded by comparison, which I think may also paint a picture to what is happening to Beyonce. Overall, Beyonce's Album of the Year nominations feel similar to when Gaga was on her hot streak -- she also accumulated a ton of AOTY noms consecutively with The Fame, The Fame Monster, and Born This Way, but didn't end up with any wins even when she was arguably the biggest act in the world at that point.

She won Song of the Year did she not? See, this is the problem. Beyonce is not OWED "Album of the Year"! It’s not a Beyoncé-specific trend. It’s a trend of devaluing black art. Beyoncé is just a very visible example. A viable candidate each time, yet falling short each time. Only 3 black women have won AOTY. All in the 90s. None since. Taylor Swift alone has won AOTY as many times as black women. This sums it up. Beyonce is the latest and most glaring example, but you have artists like Kendrick, Kanye* and Drake* without a single AOTY award to their name. Do they even have any of the general category ones? It's a trend. Given their impact, culturally and musically, it doesn't make sense. *before... everything *before his music got boring

She won Song of the Year did she not? See, this is the problem. Beyonce is not OWED "Album of the Year"! It’s weird to be the most decorated winner and have a single general field win. That would be odd for anyone, not just Beyoncé. No one is “owed” anything, but the arguments against backlash are flimsy. There’s hero worship of Taylor and Adele, and that’s never stopped them from gen category wins. There’s apparently no backlash in the industry over that. I think as Black people we've gotta get out of this mindset. We have created all of these other awards for this very reason (NAACP, Soul Train, BET, etc.) and we only cry about the Grammys or the Oscars or a placement in a Rolling Stone list. WHO CARES? This is not about white people devaluing us and our art, it's about us overestimating their opinions of us. Looking for validation. That's not a Grammys problem, that's an us problem. There's no reason that Nicki, who has won a million and one BET awards, should be crying about a Grammy. Again, who cares? And don't say it's because Grammys are mainstream/big audience/etc. Beyonce, who has spent the better part of the last decade "making music for minorities" has clearly rejected mainstream everything. So why would she expect an organization that is overly white and older to have anything to do with her art? That makes me question the motive for producing the art in the first place. Is she really trying to reach black people, women, the gays (which she has done time and time again) or is she trying to win Grammys?

That would be odd for anyone, not just Beyoncé. Is it odd? I think the "most wins" lists are generally made up of genre-specific artists who rarely make a splash in the top 3 categories. I'm not doing my research, but I recall classical and/or jazz artists generally being among the most decorated winners. Probably gospel, too. Kirk Franklin has a ton of Grammys and has he even been nominated in the top 4 categories?

To point out a pattern and a systemic issue isn’t begging for validation. The NAACP/etc aside is weird bc it’s not a real analogous argument. Why would anyone be mad about lack of black representation at an awards show where 99% of the nominated acts are black? Make that make sense. It’s weird to be the most decorated winner and have a single general field win. That would be odd for anyone, not just Beyoncé. Is it odd? They seriously need to reduce the number of general field nominees back down to 5-6 because the fact they expanded the number of noms for the sake of “diversity” and then nominate multiple artists of color in the same year (including three Black women), yet none of them win, makes it even more offensive and tone deaf than it would normally be. The over-correction screws the minorities more than the status quo.

Something I haven't seen discussed yet and that could just be because I'm super late and out of the loop, but...
When they played the clip of Cuff It on the Grammys, with the little visual, was that actually a never before seen clip of the actual Cuff It video?

I said in the Grammy thread, but Beyoncé can win no problem.
The biggest knocks I read online are that she has too many writers on each song and takes credit where it isn't due.
Write an album with just her and a producer. Prove them all wrong. She can do it.
One thing about Taylor Swift, she cares about the Grammys. She literally shifts to different genres if she gets frozen out of nominations.
If Beyoncé truly cares, she should try the above. Obviously, the Grammys appreciate her, but I think this would help her more in the Big 4.

No, they used clips from the "I'm That Girl" teaser for the album and "Cuff It" and the "Break My Soul" cliquebait video for that song.

I think the Grammy telecast laid it on too thick and this is why people are responding the way they are. In what little I watched, she was mentioned very frequently which gave the impression the ceremony revolved around her. I was only able to catch the first 30-40 minutes because my attention was immediately diverted to the catastrophic earthquake in southern Turkey & northern Syria as I rushed to see if my friends’ families were okay. So personally? I became angry because I kept receiving notifications on my phone after every time she received an award or broke some record while something truly and imaginably awful was unfolding that I needed to know more about. No, that’s not Beyoncé’s fault. But not everybody is just hating for the sake of it.

Dang, this same seat was like $225 on the last tour of hers. The tickets my fam got during the BeyHive presale in a nearby section were about $300 each in total after fees and taxes but the prices kept going up as time went on. They were already in the waiting room and signed in right before the presale started. Ticketmaster is doing that “dynamic pricing” BS.

Love that she's giving the acapellas. Hearing all of the background vocals and harmonies is such a treat. She always serves on that front.

AHAP is being added to various Spotify playlists, she’s really about to release a 3rd single and still not giving us the visuals…

Dang, this same seat was like $225 on the last tour of hers. It's such nonsense, that $995 price is showing on nearly every US date in that area. I think what happen is Ticketmaster set aside a small portion of tickets to be sold during the BeyHive Presale, and these are the remaining ones not sold of that portion. They set them to a uber high price, and want to see which megafans will jump the gun and buy them thinking those are the only tickets left. I think during the regular Verified Fan sale (basically general sale) 'suddenly' way more tickets will be available and at normal prices.

Successful album launch, a #1 and maybe soon top 5 hit with Cuff It, INSANE amount of demand for her stadium tour and viral moments en masse for her private party. And she’s doing that after ALL. THOSE. YEARS! They‘re clearly withholding the visuals for a reason, and I can’t wait to find out why.
