Imagine the kids shouting out the lyrics of Big Energy. Would be a sight to see.

Imagine the kids shouting out the lyrics of Big Energy. Would be a sight to see. True, but the kids weren't even dancing to the track. Just literally standing still and waiting for the song to change.

Isn't Big Energy mostly airplay-driven pop/rap track radio thinks people like? It's barely platinum on RIAA despite being released almost a year ago.

The only hit that feels unavoidable to me this year is About Damn Time. As It Was and First Class are avoidable if you don’t listen to radio. Even if you don’t listen to radio, there are several commercials that use ADT. I don't watch commercials. I listen to radio and have avoided adt very easily. Maybe because of my favorite radio station's taste. A search today indicates they've played Lizzo twice today: 1 Truth Hurts, 1 Good As Hell. Yesterday they just did 1 Truth Hurts. The day before, 1 Good as Hell.

I personally don't really like As It Was or First Class (I just find them boring), but they are definitely huge hits in the grander scheme. Even beyond radio and streaming, just culturally. I went to my niece's bday party this afternoon and they played As It Was so much, it was crazy, and First Class, and About Damn Time, and Running Up That Hill. Big Energy came on shuffle and despite being a huge hit on Billboard, none of the kids cared, but they were shouting their lungs out to Kate Bush. Interesting times. Maybe it's a cultural thing because I'm sure in the more "urban" crowds, "Big Energy" is played more and those aforementioned songs are probably not played at all.

Number ones that were "inescapable" for me this year (I noticed them without going out of my way to look): * WDTAB (I saw it at a karoake night) * As It Was (big on TikTok, saw a bunch of IG posts about it) * First Class (big on TikTik, saw a bunch of IG posts about it, heard it in the drive-through at work)
Non number ones in the same vein include About Damn Time (heard it at work), RUTH (watched ST, people talked about it), and Morgan Wallen's come-back (I saw a lot of IG posts about it).

Gotta be honest I was astonished when Big Energy took off on radio despite not doing much on other metrics. I know callouts were good but wow.
When it first dropped, I 100% expected it to do nothing. And I thought I was right until 2022

ADT > RUTH > AIW > First Class. Just from my perspective.

I very rarely hear About Damn Time, I watch TV all the time and I have not heard it once on a commercial.

Radio needs to freshen things up. The new music station here in Atlantic City (95.1 WAYV) has played Someone You Loved, released in 2018, at least three times since 4 pm yesterday. No wonder it was still in the Top 100 of kWorb radio until a few weeks ago.

There are of course some great songs that come from it (Out Of Time for example, that’s crazy that i’m saying that and still dislike the GP for not streaming it as well 😔), but songs like Big Energy feel like it’s used to be completely industry driven.

I've heard ADT once in my life - when I read that it's this big, inescapable hit that I'll hear everywhere I go, so I wanted to listen to it to know what it sounds like before I'd come across it in the wild. Haven't heard it since. Truly, the American Dance Monkey.

While the album is an underperformance for Drake, it is hilarious how he is still putting up those numbers when the favorite pop girls on here are not even able to achieve that with months of physical pre orders

Isn't Big Energy mostly airplay-driven pop/rap track radio thinks people like? It's barely platinum on RIAA despite being released almost a year ago. The same applies to both of Ed Sheeran's recent top tens

From someone who doesn’t listen to the radio at all popularity wise it goes ADT > RUTH > AIW > First Class. Just from my perspective. ^ I think that's how I would rank them if I had to order them based on how often I hear them while scrolling through Instagram Reels (aka TikTok lite). ADT > RUTH > AIW >>>> First Class.

That's pretty good for a one-year-old song. anyways, from my perspective: AIW > > FC > > > ADT > RUTH

If neither Heat Waves nor Big Energy is in the Top 10, this will be the first Top 10 without Heat Waves, Big Energy, and Stay since 7/17/2021 (the week before Stay debuted on the Hot 100).

I’m just glad we finally get (another) top 10 with all songs released in 2022. Although it depends on how you look at RUTH and if you consider it a 2022 song now.

"Big Energy" wasn't released in 2022, but it didn't fully catch on/peak until 2022 so what would be the difference between it and "RUTH" hitting a peak in 2022?
