A couple more unusual ones that my station added recently. Both were hits, but they seem unusual moreso because the artists are one-hit wonders from a long time ago that would likely not be recognizable to the average pop radio listener today.
Ray J / Yung Berg - Sexy Can I Baby Bash / Frankie J - Suga Suga

Not necessarily weird, but I surprised tonight to hear Secrets by OneRepublic on KBIG, the Los Angeles HAC. I haven't heard it in years. KIIS had just played Halo, so Already Gone is the only one of 2009 Tedder Trinity that I didn't hear tonight.

Probably not old enough to be considered a "throwback," but my CHR has been playing Diplo and Morgan Wallen's "Heartless" a lot recently. They had "Wasted on You" in power for three months so I'm imagining it's because Morgan Wallen was getting good callouts or something, but it's really odd because they never added "Heartless" to their playlist when it was popular.

My CHR has added quite a few throwbacks to their playlist recently since shifting to a more throwback-heavy playlist model. Some are not necessarily weird, but I'll just list everything that has been added recently.
Taio Cruz / Ludacris - Break Your Heart Neon Trees - Everybody Talks Rihanna - Pon De Replay Rihanna - SOS Rihanna / Drake - What's My Name? (they've added lots of Rihanna back into rotation since the Super Bowl) MKTO - Classic Britney Spears - Gimme More Britney Spears - Oops!...I Did It Again Lady Gaga - Paparazzi Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz / Ying Yang Twins - Get Low TLC - No Scrubs NSYNC - Bye Bye Bye Shakira / Wyclef Jean - Hips Don't Lie Sean Paul - Temperature The Weeknd - Heartless (perhaps not old enough to be a throwback, but I thought this one was odd since it's one The Weeknd's least popular hits)
Perhaps the weirdest throwback though is that they've kept "Sweater Weather" by The Neighbourhood in power rotation for four months and counting now (since last October), and I must say I love their strange obsession with that song haha <3

The Cumulus-owned CHR station here has had a few unusual throwbacks in the past week that have played multiple times: Coldplay - Clocks Jesse McCartney - Leavin' Usher - Caught Up
Shoutout to this same increasingly rhythmic CHR for the 90s dance love on the 4th: Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone Jagged Edge - Let's Get Married (ReMarqable Remix) Robyn - Do You Know (What It Takes)

A AC radio station from my area has Sway by The Pussycat Dolls in a heavy rotation which is very weird as it's probably their most forgotten single

I always thought it was a buzz single to drum up some noise before "Don't Cha" dropped.

I've heard a couple more recently on my local CHR station. They've started playing "Dead and Gone" by T.I. & Justin Timberlake, which I guess is not super obscure since it charted decently high on the Billboard year-end. Still, I feel like that is probably the least memorable single off of Paper Trails, and I would have expected them to go with "Whatever You Like" or "Live Your Life," which are far more remembered today.
They've also have recently been playing "Tipsy" by J-Kwon a decent amount, which again charted decently high on the Billboard year-end, but it feels like a forgotten song by a completely forgotten artist (although maybe I'm just too young to remember and older generations remember this more?) Perhaps the oddest thing though is that they've been playing an explicit edit of the song, which leaves "ass" and "bitch" uncensored.

my local top 40 station (WRVW) often plays a lot of pop punk songs as throwbacks. ones I remember are all the small things by blink 182, dirty little secret by the all american rejects, and I write sins not tragedies by panic at the disco. and there's a couple more I'm forgetting. not complaining at all since I love pop punk but it feels unusual to hear a bunch of new pop songs followed by that.
edit: looking at the recents from the website, they played misery business by paramore this morning. definitely unusual for a pop station but I love to see it!

Literally just hopped into my work van, turned it on, and it defaulted to the radio, which was playing "Gimme More" by Britney Spears??? In 2023??? We Stan that station now.

It doesn't apply to now, but I remember back in the mid to late 2000s, my local Top 40 station threw in a few unexpected ones from the 90s. While it wasn't surprising to hear songs from the later 90s like "Just a Girl" or "Semi Charmed Life," the station kept these songs from 1992 on rotation.
Nirvana - "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and Toad the Wet Sprocket - "All I Want" The Heights - "How Do You Talk to an Angel" (separate station, but still a current Top 40 station)
I would say those are pretty unique picks for hit radio stations between the years 2005 to 2008 or so.

Not sure why I didn't think of this when I commented here previously, but there's a local top 40 station in my area where one of the DJs will play some really obscure throwbacks during his afternoon show that are borderline out of place on pop radio. It seems to be a marketing strategy to intrigue and surprise listeners with weird throwbacks they haven't heard in forever. I've always admired it tbh, especially with the increased streamlining of playlists and most stations playing throwbacks that listeners would instantly recognize. It's an interesting vibe, because it isn't even a specific genre of obscure throwback, it's just a bunch of random genres (i.e. classic rock, hip-hop/rap, and even some Hot AC fodder) mixed in between all of the same hits you'd hear on any normal top 40 station. Looking at the station's OnlineRadioBox playlist, these are the obscure throwbacks played this week:
American Hi-Fi - "Flavor of the Weak" Christina Aguilera - "Come On Over" Terror Squad - "Lean Back" Eminem & Nate Dogg - "Shake That" Weird Al Yankovic - "My Bologna" (this one is particularly obscure lol) Ying Yang Twins - "Say I Yi Yi" Ace of Base - "The Sign" Color Me Badd - "All 4 Love" Freak Nasty - "Da Dip" Cascada - "Evacuate the Dancefloor" N-Trance - "Stayin' Alive" Snoop Dogg - "What's My Name?" Bowling for Soup - "1985" Eagle Eye Cherry - "Save Tonight" Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch - "Good Vibrations" Trick Daddy / Trina - "Take It to Da House" Pras / Mya / ODB - "Ghetto Supastar" Cameo - "Word Up" Dr. Dre - "Xxplosive" George Thorogood and the Destroyers - "Bad to the Bone" Juvenile - "Back That Thang Up" Simple Plan - "Addicted" Bloodhound Gang - "The Bad Touch" Chingy - "Holidae In" John Mayer - "Your Body Is a Wonderland" Fatboy Slim - "The Rockafella Skank"

Those were 3 of my favorite songs growing up.

I'm old enough to remember buying his debut album, but that entire conversation about Ray J having multiple hits feels like it should have happened in the 'chart facts that sound untrue' thread

My local radio station that used to play 70s and 80s music started adding some songs from the 90s and 00s in the past few years. The most notable songs I've heard so far:
R.E.M. - Shiny Happy People (this song is the bane of my existence)
Smash Mouth - All Star
Los Del Rio - Macarena (Bayside Boys Remix)
Mr. C the Slide Man - Cha Cha Slide
Every single hit song released by the Vengaboys (Boom Boom Boom Boom always leaves me speechless when it comes on lol)
Every single radio-friendly song by Sugar Ray (Fly, Every Morning, etc)
Ke$ha - Tik Tok
That's all that comes to my mind for now.
