Released on July 24, 2020 (became a single three days later) alongside the release of the surprise album of Taylor Swift, "folklore". It debuted at #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 (which is Ms. Swift's sixth #1 after WANEGBT, Shake It Off, Blank Space, Bad Blood, and LWYMMD) and started with 7.742 million streams, which is at the time is the largest opening day for a song in 2020.
Absolutely wonderful song, like every aspect of it is just beautiful. it's such a shame that it underperformed on the Billboard Hot 100 and didn't get a Year-End placement from that year.

For some reason this, as well as a good chunk of folklore, have not aged well with me. I have no negative comments about the track, but I'm just never in the mood to hear this one.

The bridge on this one is one of her best.

This gets better with every listen. Definitely one of my top favorite songs from her (which isn't a small achievement as she has a massive catalog already).

I really like the vivid storytelling used in this one, but the bridge has always depressed me because of how raw and vulnerable it is.

One of her best tracks ever in my opinion. The bridge is amazing. I'm still not tired of this song.

I think this is the song that made me a full-fledged Swifie. The continuous refrain of 'I knew everything when I was young' resonated so deeply with what I was living at the moment and some of the imagery was unshakable ('chasing shadows in the grocery line' felt like a punch in the gut) . I remember the moment I watched the video for the first time with my roommate and she immediately started crying when Taylor was clinging to life on the piano. 'It's a metaphor: sometimes your art is all you have to keep you from losing yourself', she said.

Objectively I think it's a great song, but I never found myself actively seeking it out much, even during its run. She has so many other singles I prefer to this one.
