Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti collects a seventh nonconsecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart (dated Aug. 6). The title earned 98,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending July 28 (down 5%), according to Luminate. Un Verano Sin Ti is the album with the most weeks at No. 1 in over a year, since Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album spent its 10th and final week at No. 1 on the list dated March 27, 2021. (Since Dangerous, Adele’s 30 had clocked six weeks at No. 1.) Also in the new top 10, SEVENTEEN and Jack White both score their second top 10-charting albums of 2022 with their latest releases. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new Aug. 6, 2022-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard‘s website on Tuesday (Aug. 2). For all chart news, follow billboard and billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram. Of Un Verano Sin Ti’s 98,000 equivalent album units earned, SEA units comprise 97,000 (down 5%; equaling 135.9 million on-demand official streams of the set’s tracks) and album sales and TEA units comprise the remainder of the week’s total. Un Verano Sin Ti has exhibited strong staying power, as it earned in excess of 100,000 units in its first 11 weeks on the chart. The latest tracking frame is its first to dip below 100,000. Further, the album has declined less than 10% in weekly units in every week from its fourth through 12th frames. (The album eroded by 34% in its second week, then fell by 15% in its third, and then from its fourth week onwards has only dropped by 2-9% weekly.) Un Verano Sin Ti has spent its first 12 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart lodged in the top two. The last album to start off as strong was Drake’s Views, which spent its first 17 weeks in the top two (May 21-Sept. 10, 2016-dated charts). Un Verano Sin Ti bowed at No. 1 on the May 21-dated chart, then stepped away from the top slot for three weeks. It returned to No. 1 on June 18, and then moved aside for two more weeks, until coming back to No. 1 for the last five consecutive weeks. Un Verano Sin Ti may vacate the No. 1 slot on the Aug. 13-dated chart, as Beyoncé’s seventh solo studio album, Renaissance, is due to debut on the tally, following its release on Friday (July 29). All six of Beyoncé’s previous solo studio sets opened at No. 1. Wallen’s Dangerous rises 4-2 on the latest Billboard 200 with 49,000 equivalent album units earned (up 1%) while Harry Styles’ fellow former No. 1 Harry’s House is a non-mover at No. 3 with 48,000 units (down 8%). SEVENTEEN logs its highest-charting album yet and second top 10, as 4th Album Repackage: Sector 17 debuts at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 with 34,000 equivalent album units earned. On the June 18 chart, the South Korean group debuted and peaked at No. 7 with SEVENTEEN 4th Album: Face the Sun. The new Sector 17 release contains Face the Sun’s same tracklist, but adds additional songs and retitles the album. Of Sector 17’s first-week units of 34,000, album sales comprise 31,000; SEA units comprise 2,000 (equaling 3.31 million on-demand official streams of the set’s tracks); and TEA units comprise the remainder of the units. Like many K-pop releases, the CD configuration of Sector 17 was issued in collectible deluxe packages (six total, including an exclusive version for Target), each with a standard set of items and randomized elements (such as photocards and photobooks); 99.8% of the album’s first-week sales were on CD. The other fraction of a percent were digital album purchases. (The set was not released in any other format, such as vinyl or cassette.) Future’s former No. 1 I Never Liked You rises 6-5 on the Billboard 200 with 33,000 equivalent album units earned (down 5%) and Drake’s chart-topping Honestly, Nevermind dips 5-6 with 32,000 units (down 14%). Lizzo’s Special falls 2-7 in its second week with 29,000 units (down 58%) and Lil Durk’s former leader 7220 rises 10-8 with 28,000 (down 11%). Jack White collects his sixth solo top 10 album on the Billboard 200 — and second of 2022 — as Entering Heaven Alive debuts at No. 9. The set starts with 27,000 equivalent album units earned. Of that sum, album sales comprise 25,000, SEA units comprise 2,000 (equaling 2.05 million on-demand official streams of the set’s tracks) and TEA units comprise a negligible sum. White previously hit the top 10 this year with Fear of the Dawn, which debuted and peaked at No. 4 on the April 23-dated list. He’s also claimed top 10s as a member of the bands The Raconteurs, The Dead Weather and The White Stripes (three each). Rounding out the new top 10 is Olivia Rodrigo’s former No. 1 Sour, which rises 13-10 with 26,000 equivalent album units earned (down 5%). Luminate, the independent data provider to the Billboard charts, completes an exhaustive and thorough review of all data submissions used in compiling the weekly chart rankings. This is the second week in a row where they ignore Encanto's existence...

K-Pop now has 7 leaders on the Album Sales chart in 2022, beating the genre’s 6, set in both 2020 and 2021.
Not sure if I’d consider this a re-entry or an entirely new album, considering a repackage* and all…

SEVENTEEN Scores Fourth No. 1 on Top Album Sales Chart Plus: Jack White and ODESZA debut in top 10.
By Keith Caulfield
08/2/2022www.billboard.com/music/chart-beat/seventeen-sector-17-repackage-number-one-album-sales-chart-1235121219/SEVENTEEN scores its fourth No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart (dated Aug. 6), as the act’s SEVENTEEN 4th Album Repackage: Sector 17 debuts atop the tally. The set, which is the act’s second chart-topper in 2022, sold 31,000 copies in the U.S. in the week ending July 28, according to Luminate. All four of the South Korean group’s charting efforts have hit No. 1 on Top Album Sales. On the June 18 chart, SEVENTEEN debuted at No. 1 with SEVENTEEN 4th Album: Face the Sun. The new Sector 17 release contains all of the songs on Face the Sun, but adds additional tracks. Also debuting in the new top 10: Jack White’s Entering Heaven Alive at No. 2, and ODESZA’s The Last Goodbye at No. 3. Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart ranks the top-selling albums of the week based only on traditional album sales. The chart’s history dates back to May 25, 1991, the first week Billboard began tabulating charts with electronically monitored piece count information from SoundScan, now Luminate. Pure album sales were the sole measurement utilized by the Billboard 200 albums chart through the list dated Dec. 6, 2014, after which that chart switched to a methodology that blends album sales with track equivalent album units and streaming equivalent album units. For all chart news, follow billboard and billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram. Of the 31,000 copies sold of Sector 17, physical format sales comprise effectively all of that sum (all on CD; the album was not released on any other physical formats). Only 0.2% of the album’s first-week sales were digital album purchases. Like many K-pop releases, the CD configuration of Sector 17 was issued in collectible deluxe packages (six total, including an exclusive version for Target), each with a standard set of items and randomized elements (such as photocards and photobooks). White snags his second top 10 on Top Album Sales in 2022, as his new album Entering Heaven Alive debuts at No. 2 with 25,000 copies sold. In April, his Fear of the Dawn set debuted at No. 1. Notably, of Entering Heaven Alive’s 25,000 sold, vinyl LP sales comprise 16,000 – yielding a No. 1 debut on the Vinyl Albums chart. (The tally ranks the top-selling vinyl albums of the week.) It’s White’s sixth No. 1 on the Vinyl Albums chart. ODESZA’s The Last Goodbye is the third and final debut in the top 10 on Top Album Sales, as the duo’s latest effort bows at No. 3 with 16,000 sold. Vinyl sales comprised a majority of the set’s first-week, with 13,000 sold on wax. It starts at No. 2 on the Vinyl Albums chart. Harry Styles’ former No. 1 Harry’s House falls 3-4 with 11,000 sold (down 14%), ITZY’s Checkmate: Mini Album dips 2-5 in its second week with nearly 11,000 (down 65%), Lizzo’s Special descends 1-6 in its second week with 10,000 (down 75%) and TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s chart-topping Minisode 2: Thursday’s Child is a non-mover at No. 7 with 8,000 (down 6%). A trio of former leaders round out the top 10, as Tyler, the Creator’s Call Me If You Get Lost dips 6-8 (7,000; down 17%), Aespa’s Girls: The 2nd Mini Album falls 4-9 (nearly 7,000; down 36%) and Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour rises 11-10 (6,000; down 13%). In the week ending July 28, there were 1.696 million albums sold in the U.S. (down 8% compared to the previous week). Of that sum, physical albums (CDs, vinyl LPs, cassettes, etc.) comprised 1.341 million (down 7.9%) and digital albums comprised 355,000 (down 8.6%). There were 615,000 CD albums sold in the week ending July 28 (down 7.4% week-over-week) and 715,000 vinyl albums sold (down 8.4%). Year-to-date CD album sales stand at 19.434 million (down 9.8% compared to the same time frame a year ago) and year-to-date vinyl album sales total 22.350 million (down 0.2%). Overall year-to-date album sales total 53.956 million (down 8.4% compared to the same year-to-date time frame a year ago). Year-to-date physical album sales stand at 42.079 million (down 4.8%) and digital album sales total 11.878 million (down 19.5%).

Honestly… SEVENTEEN’s album really is a reissue. Putting out the same product in expanded form with a new title/cover doesn’t make it new. When deluxe editions were a thing in the late 00’s/10’s, it simply effected the main entry’s run/stats. So… I don’t know. If this a trend, be prepared for slightly inflated facts.

Out of curiosity how much Billboard 200 has slowed down this decade. January 2010 - July 2012 vs. January 2020 - July 2022

You’d think we’re living in the 50’s with those numbers… but it has slowed down. Part of it is streaming but there’s periods of stagnation; it wasn’t until Bad Bunny and Harry Styles dropped albums that we a heartbeat to this year.

His album was actually the one that got the ball rolling. Wait For U pulling the upset over As It Was that week might have been the most exciting thing that happened on the charts this year. Outside of that 4-week window that produced Future, Bad Bunny, and Harry, nothing has really moved the needle (hopefully Beyoncé and Renaissance changes that).

Thanks for posting the charts, Gary.
Sabrina Carpenter's Emails I Can't Send was the biggest Billboard 200 dropper, down 116 spots to No. 139. Looking at top 20 debuts from the prior chart, j-hope's Jack In The Box drops off the chart from No. 17.
