Elton John - "Philadelphia Freedom"

did not see a thread for this. Elton was mostly known in the early 70's as a rocker or doing folky piano ballads .though in 1975 he released my favorite song by him and among my favorite songs of the decade . it was a great tribute to the disco and philly soul sound that was popular then. song was over 5 minutes long but reached #1 for 2 weeks and was the #3 song of the year.it also reached #32 on the r&b chart.

this song was also written as a tribute to Billie Jean King a well known tennis player in the 70's and beyond. tonight on the Masked Singer they had an episode where the masked singers were performing Elton John songs . one of them called The Royal Hen performed this but vocally was not very good and was later unmasked and it was none of then Billie Jean King who the song was written about.
