The 2nd studio album released on September 16, 1997 by LaFace Records. The album was mainly produced by Babyface and Jermaine Dupri. It debuted #15 on the Billboard 200 and peaked at #4. The album also reached #4 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and eventually topped the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart for three weeks. It was certified six times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). My Way became Usher's breakthrough album and earned him a nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for "You Make Me Wanna...".
Complex has ranked the album #36 on their "The Best R&B Albums of '90s" list.
Discuss your fave tracks and memories of this album. Back then, I always thought that this was his first album because this was the first time hearing about him, but apparently, he released his first in 1994. I remember watching the videos on Vh-1. I love all tracks on the album, especially "Nice & Slow", "I Will", "One Day You'll Be Mine", and "You Make Me Wanna". Those I keep on repeat! This album is among my top 3 Usher albums. "You Make Me Wanna..." #2 Hot 100, #1 Dance Singles Sales, #1 R&B/Hip Hop, #7 Mainstream Top 40, #1 Rhythmic "Nice & Slow" #1 Hot 100, #2 Dance Singles Sales, #1 R&B/Hip Hop, #1 Rhythmic "My Way" #2 Hot 100, #4 R&B/Hip Hop, #5 Rhythmic

I feel like this album is underrated compared to 8701 and Confessions. The singles pushed Usher into the mainstream. I remember hearing "You Make Me Wanna...", "Nice & Slow" and "My Way" on the radio during that era.
I didn't hear the entire album until 2001. It was very adult even though he was 18/19 at the time of the release. Not so teen friendly. lol. I figured Lil' Kim's guest verses in "Just Like Me" was the primary reason it received the Parental Advisory label. There were some profanities on the other songs, but not bad enough to warrant a sticker. Outside of the singles, it was a nice listen. I thought "One Day You'll Be Mine" and "Come Back" sampled the rap hits "Today Was A Good Day" and "California Love" respectively and it was weird hearing Usher sing over the samples. They turned out to be my favorite songs. Also, I wanna add that I did not recall hearing Usher rap on "Nice & Slow" and "My Way". Mind you I hadn't heard those songs in 3 years. lol. But anyway, the album is an easy listen these days. There is not a filler/skippable track.
"One Day You'll Be Mine" and "Bedtime" charted on Urban after the major three singles, peaking at #15 and #21.
Another Usher and Monica duet is overdue. lol.

THis is one of my favorite albums from 1997. This album is still an easy listen these days.
