Bad Bunny Ties ‘Encanto’ for Most Weeks at No. 1 on Billboard 200 in 2022 Plus: Demi Lovato, Madonna & Five Finger Death Punch debut in top 10.www.billboard.com/music/chart-beat/bad-bunny-encanto-tie-most-weeks-2022-number-one-billboard-200-chart-1235131892/By Keith Caulfield 08/28/2022 Also in the top 10 of the new Billboard 200, Demi Lovato captures their eighth consecutive top 10 effort (their entirely of charting releases) with the arrival of Holy Fvck, Madonna becomes the first woman with a top 10 album in each of the last five decades as Finally Enough Love debuts, and Five Finger Death Punch collects its eighth top 10 effort with the bow of AfterLife. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new Sept. 3, 2022-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard‘s website on Tuesday, Aug. 30. For all chart news, follow billboard and billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram. Of Un Verano Sin Ti’s 105,000 equivalent album units earned, SEA units comprise 102,000 (equaling 143.72 million on-demand official streams of the set’s tracks), album sales and TEA units comprise the remaining sum. Un Verano Sin Ti ties the Encanto soundtrack for the most weeks at No. 1 in 2022. The last album with more weeks at No. 1 is Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album, which logged 10 weeks, all consecutive, atop the list in early 2021 (Jan. 23-March 27, 2021-dated charts). Un Verano Sin Ti debuted at No. 1 on the May 21, 2022-dated chart, then stepped away from the top slot for three weeks. It returned to No. 1 on June 18, and then moved aside for two more weeks, returning to No. 1 for five straight weeks from the July 9 through Aug. 6-dated charts. It then fell to No. 2 on Aug. 13, returned to No. 1 on the Aug. 20 chart, fell back to No. 2 on the Aug. 27 list, and now climbs back to No. 1 on the new ranking. Un Verano Sin Ti is the first album with five separate visits to No. 1 since Adele’s 21 had 10 distinct stays at No. 1 in 2011-12, for a total of 24 weeks atop the list. It debuted at No. 1 on the March 12, 2011-dated list and notched its final week atop the chart on June 23, 2012. Plus, Un Verano Sin Ti has yet to depart the top two rungs of the chart for its entire 16-week run on the list thus far. The last album to start off as strong was Drake’s Views, which spent its first 17 weeks in the top two (May 21-Sept. 10, 2016-dated charts). Rod Wave’s Beautiful Mind falls to No. 2 in its second week with 57,000 equivalent album units earned (down 51%). Beyoncé’s former No. 1 Renaissance is a non-mover at No. 3 with 52,000 units (down 18%). Morgan Wallen’s chart-topping Dangerous: The Double Album climbs 6-4 with 49,000 equivalent album units earned (up less than 1%). Dangerous: The Double Album has now accumulated 84 nonconsecutive weeks in the top 10 on the Billboard 200. Since the chart began publishing on a regular, weekly basis in 1956, Dangerous ties Adele’s 21 and Bruce Springsteen’s Born in the U.S.A. for the second-most weeks in the top 10 among albums by artists with 84 weeks each. Peter, Paul and Mary’s self-titled album has the most weeks in the top 10 among singular acts, with 85 nonconsecutive weeks in 1962-64. However, there are seven albums that have more weeks in the top 10 than Peter, Paul and Mary – and all are multi-artist soundtracks and cast recordings, led by the all-time top 10 record holder, the original cast recording of My Fair Lady, with 173 weeks in the top 10 between 1956-60. See list, below. Albums With Most Weeks in Top 10 on Billboard 200 Chart (March 24, 1956-onwards)Weeks in Top 10, Artist, Title, Year First Reached Top 10 173, Original Cast, My Fair Lady, 1956 109, Soundtrack, The Sound of Music, 1965 106, Soundtrack, West Side Story, 1962 105, Original Cast, The Sound of Music, 1960 90, Soundtrack, South Pacific, 1958 87, Original Cast, Camelot, 1961 87, Soundtrack, Oklahoma!, 1956 85, Peter, Paul and Mary, Peter Paul and Mary, 1962 84, Morgan Wallen, Dangerous: The Double Album, 2021 84, Adele, 21, 2011 84, Bruce Springsteen, Born in the U.S.A., 1984 (through the Sept. 3, 2022-dated chart.) Harry Styles’ former No. 1 Harry’s House rises 7-5 with 45,000 equivalent album units earned (up 4%), while YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s The Last Slimeto falls 5-6 with 37,000 units (down 25%). Demi Lovato logs the highest debut of the week on the Billboard 200, as Holy Fvck starts at No. 7 with 33,000 equivalent album units earned. Of that sum, album sales comprise 20,000; SEA units comprise 12,000 (equaling 15.62 million on-demand official streams of the set’s tracks); and TEA units comprise the remaining sum. Holy Fvck is Lovato’s eighth consecutive top 10 album on the Billboard 200 – the entirety of their charting efforts. Madonna’s remix compilation Finally Enough Love bows at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 with 30,000 equivalent album units earned. Of that sum, album sales comprise 28,000, SEA units comprise nearly 2,000 (equaling 2 million on-demand official streams of the set’s tracks) and TEA units comprise the remaining sum. The retrospective was available in either a 16-track standard album or an expanded 50-track deluxe set. With the album’s debut, Madonna becomes the first woman with a newly-charting top 10 title on the Billboard 200 albums chart in the 1980s, ‘90s, 2000s, ‘10s and now the ‘20s. Finally Enough Love largely consists of previously released dance remixes, as the set celebrates Madonna’s 50 No. 1s on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart. She remains the first and only act with at least 50 No. 1s on any single Billboard chart. Finally Enough Love is the first remix album to reach the top 10 on the Billboard 200 since 2014, when Beyoncé’s six-track More Only EP debuted and peaked at No. 8 on the Dec. 13, 2014 chart. The last remix album to chart higher was Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never: The Remixes which debuted at No. 1 on the March 5, 2011-dated chart. And, Finally Enough Love is the highest-charting electronic/dance remix album in more than a decade, since Lady Gaga’s The Remix debuted and peaked at No. 6 on the Aug. 21, 2010 chart. Megan Thee Stallion’s Traumazine falls 4-9 in its second week on the Billboard 200 (29,000 equivalent album units earned; down 53%). Rock band Five Finger Death Punch collects its eighth top 10 album on the Billboard 200, as AfterLife debuts at No. 10 with nearly 29,000 equivalent album units earned. Of that sum, album sales comprise 22,000, SEA units comprise 6,000 (equaling 8.06 million on-demand official streams of the set’s tracks) and TEA units comprise the remaining sum. Oddly, Keith C. didn't mention Madonna's top 10 count. Maybe he'll add it in, or mention it in the Album Sales article.

hey, they actually mention encanto's soundtrack when comparing bad bunny's run; last few times they skipped over it to only talk about morgan's.

I think Panic is in the same boat as Maroon 5. They had a generous resurgence but it’s all behind us now.

www.billboard.com/music/chart-beat/madonna-first-woman-with-billboard-200-top-10-albums-each-decade-1235132467/Madonna Becomes First Woman to Earn Billboard 200 Top 10 Albums Each Decade Since the ‘80sBy Keith Caulfield 08/29/2022 Her remix retrospective 'Finally Enough Love' starts at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 and tops multiple other charts, including Top Album Sales & Vinyl Albums. Madonna becomes the first woman with newly charting top 10 titles on the Billboard 200 albums chart in the 1980s, ‘90s, 2000s, ‘10s and now the ‘20s. The Queen of Pop’s new remix compilation, Finally Enough Love, debuts at No. 8 on the Sept. 3-dated chart. She’s just the 10th act to have achieved this distinction – and the other nine are all solo male artists or groups comprising men. Madonna notched her first top 10 album on the Billboard 200 with her self-titled debut effort, which reached the top 10 dated Oct. 6, 1984 (rising 12-10), and peaked at No. 8 two weeks later (Oct. 20, 1984). She logged a total of five top 10s on the Billboard 200 in the 1980s (Madonna, Like a Virgin, True Blue, the Who’s That Girl soundtrack and Like a Prayer), seven in the ‘90s (I’m Breathless: Music From and Inspired by the Film Dick Tracy, The Immaculate Collection, Erotica, Bedtime Stories, Something to Remember, the Evita soundtrack and Ray of Light), six in the 2000s (Music, GHV2: Greatest Hits Volume 2, American Life, Confessions on a Dance Floor, Hard Candy and Celebration) and four in the ‘10s (Sticky & Sweet Tour, MDNA, Rebel Heart and Madame X). Of those 23 top 10s, nine reached No. 1: Like a Virgin, True Blue, Like a Prayer, Music, American Life, Confessions on a Dance Floor, Hard Candy, MDNA and Madame X. Acts With New Top 10 Albums on the Billboard 200 Chart in the 1980s, ‘90s, 2000s, ‘10s & ‘20s:AC/DC Def Leppard Paul McCartney Madonna Metallica Ozzy Osbourne Robert Plant Prince Bruce Springsteen James Taylor Meanwhile, McCartney (including his work with Wings), Springsteen and Taylor’s streaks stretch back six decades to the ’70s, and that’s not counting the output of, and McCartney’s driving contributions to, The Beatles, who landed 17 top 10 sets on the Billboard 200 in the ’60s (and 15 more since). Highest Charting Dance/Electronic Remix Album in More Than a DecadeFinally Enough Love largely consists of previously released dance remixes, as the set celebrates Madonna’s 50 No. And, Finally Enough Love is the highest-charting dance/electronic remix album in more than a decade, since Lady Gaga’s The Remix debuted and peaked at No. 6 on the Aug. 21, 2010, chart. Top Selling Album of the WeekFinally Enough Love is also the top-selling album of the week in the U.S., as the set launches atop Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart with 28,000 copies sold. It also debuts at No. 1 on Top Current Album Sales. It’s her eighth No. 1 on the 31-year-old Top Album Sales chart. (It launched on May 25, 1991.) Among women, only Taylor Swift has more No. 1s on this chart, with 10, while Beyoncé is in third, with seven. The retrospective was available in either a 16-track standard album and an expanded 50-track deluxe set. Physical album sales comprise 23,000 (12,000 on vinyl and 11,000 on CD) and digital album sales comprise 5,000. Finally also starts at No. 1 on Vinyl Albums with 12,000 sold – Madonna’s largest sales week for a vinyl album since Luminate began tracking sales in 1991. The 16-track standard album was available in multiple color variants exclusively sold through Target, Walmart and Amazon, in addition to its standard black LP. Its 50-track version was available in in a limited-edition box set with six LPs (6,000 manufactured globally). Finally additionally launches at No. 1 on both Top Dance/Electronic Albums and Tastemaker Albums. The former ranks the most popular dance/electronic albums of the week, by equivalent album units. The latter tallies the top-selling albums at independent and small chain record stores. Madonna Ties for Fourth-Most Top 10 Albums on Billboard 200 Among SoloistsAs Finally Enough Love marks Madonna’s 23rd top 10, that ties her with Bob Dylan for the fourth-most top 10s among solo acts. Here’s an updated look at the artists with at least 20 top 10 albums on the Billboard 200, from March 24, 1956, when the list began publishing on a regular, weekly basis, through Sept. 3, 2022. Most Billboard 200 Top 10s:37, The Rolling Stones 34, Barbra Streisand 32, The Beatles 32, Frank Sinatra 27, Elvis Presley 23, Bob Dylan 23, Madonna 21, Elton John 21, Paul McCartney/Wings 21, Bruce Springsteen 21, George Strait 20, Prince (Notably, The Kidz Bop Kids music brand has collected 24 top 10s, in 2005-16, with its series of kid-friendly covers of hit singles. The franchise’s early albums were performed mostly by anonymous studio singers, although later releases focused on branding named talent.)

I saw something on IG that said Madonna had the largest sales week for a vinyl ever. Is that true, I think the account that posted that may have been confused.
The article above states it's Madonna's biggest week as noted below, but not necessarily the largest sales week for a vinyl ever. Can someone confirm?
Finally also starts at No. 1 on Vinyl Albums with 12,000 sold – Madonna’s largest sales week for a vinyl album since Luminate began tracking sales in 1991.

^Yes, just Madonna's biggest vinyl sales week since 1991. Harry Styles' latest set recently scored the highest weekly vinyl sales since 1991, with 182,000 vinyls sold in its debut week.

That system works for them more times than it doesn’t . Albums wise they are long done Panic and M5 are in completely different boats. One was basically a two-hit wonder, each song separated by more than a decade, while M5 pretty much had steady success from 2004 until 2020. Yes, it is notable that many of M5's recent hits have been with rent-a-rappers, however even now I don't think that will work anymore and both acts are probably done.

Thanks, Gary.
The Game has this week's biggest dropper on the Billboard 200, as Drillmatic Heart Vs. Mind slides 155 spots to No. 167.
I imagine albums debuting in the 7-13 range this week will see notable drops next week.

Are big drops exclusive to this era? I just don’t see anyone dropping 50-100 pos. in the 70’s or 80’s.
Edit: surprised to see Yvonne Elliman was the record holder for this one until the 90’s. 77-196 drop for her Love Me album.

Are big drops exclusive to this era? I just don’t see anyone dropping 50-100 pos. in the 70’s or 80’s. Yes because 1. Albums in general weren’t as frontloaded until the 2000s. Now with the internet making fanbases aware of an album release months ahead and the ability to pre-order albums months ahead an album can sell 90% of its total the first week. 2. Pre-Soundscan the charts (Hot 100 & Billboard 200) never really ever had drastic movements in a week (like #90 to #3 or #4 to #86) because the methodology didn’t really allow such. I’m pretty sure especially with Hot 100 they had “caps” on how much a song could increase or decrease in a week (this is why songs like We Are the World reportedly sold millions out of the gate but debuted outside top 20 and took over a month to reach #1).

Also of note- The Mountain Goats' Bleed Out debuted at No. 10 on Album Sales, though missed the Billboard 200.
RE the big drops- it seemed we were seeing less sizable drops at first when the redemptions/bundles ban took effect, though we've been seeing more sizable drops in recent times, particularly for albums that are much stronger in pure sales vs. streaming.

I think Maroon 5 can still get moderate hits with rent a rappers. Maroon 5 got a hit last year, the last time they did the rent a rapper thing. I don’t see why they can’t do it again. It won’t smash like some of the others did 5 years ago, but top 20 performers still seem pretty feasible for them. I agree that panic were never consistent hit makers. They could get a hit out of nowhere again or never hit the hot 100 again. I would view them as a lot more unpredictable.

Panic is more of an album act anyhow, but the quality has been there… They bounced back after Vices And Virtues and delivered a great album with Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die. After that, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. I like Death Of A Bachelor but then lose interest. It was nice seeing them break back “into the mainstream” but there’s also nothing new to offer now. They are, in my opinion, in the same league as Fall Out Boy, which ironically debuted the same year: 2005.
Maroon 5 was also in the same boat after their second album. Nobody was that interested in them when “Misery” came out. The minute Adam went on The Voice and paired up with Christina, suddenly they’re cool again. That wave of hits was pretty good too, but also dragging with the same exact formula like ^^ … which is why I think they’ve both have exhausted their stays. The big difference is M5 is more comparable to Train.
