Album's out! Nevermind the fact that we heard 40% of it already, it's truly a wonderful set of songs.
"After Midnight" video dropped with the album, so I guess this is the next focus track.
I'd love to see them go three singles deep this era (four if you count "Identical") but that requires "Tonight" taking off a bit more. Let's go!

Looks like this is finally getting alt traction. Bullet's now up to over 200 on Alternative:
29 23 PHOENIX Tonight f/Ezra Koenig 700 495 205 0.726
Also added by Audacy this week.

Finally! This is great to see... and the fact that it's surging after it's been around for months makes me think it's clicking with audiences more organically (which bodes well).
ETA: The fact that the album has been received so well doesn't hurt either!

Saw them in concert again this week! This time in Paris, and it seems this is a fan favorite on both sides of the Atlantic. Hope it keeps on chugging upwards!

As we enter the final month of 2022, Phoenix (with their buddy Ezra Koenig) knock off Rosa Linn with "Tonight." This is Phoenix's third Billboard AAA #1, following "Identical" (2020) and "Alpha Zulu" (2022). This is also Ezra Koenig's third chart topper counting his work as the lead singer of Vampire Weekend ("Harmony Hall" and "This Life" in 2019).
"Tonight" is the 20th AAA #1 of the year. With only three more charts in the calendar year, we'll see if they hold the line until 2023 or if someone else claims another crown.

This reaches the top 10 on Billboard alt becoming their first top 10 since 2013's Trying to Be Cool.

Love it!
I actually have this metric going with “artists with 4 top 10 alt hits OR 10 overall chart entries (Billboard)”
Phoenix gets to go in the 2010s category, which, fun? facts. 1990s has 44, 2000s have 46 and 2010s have 26 artists that fit that criteria. Alternative is definitely diminishing as a genre.

How high did Alpha Zulu get on Billboard?

How high did Alpha Zulu get on Billboard? 13 iirc; it was one of those songs to get really screwed by the MB-BB discrepancy

This has been stuck at #10 on Alternative for seemingly forever (at least a month?) with slow but steady bullet, but as of today its bulletless. Considering the spin gap between this and #9 is over 300, I guess #10 will go down as its peak. I was hoping for more when it started to surge in the late fall, but I'll take this!
I still love this album so much. Although Ezra is on this song, I hear early Vampire Weekend's influence elsewhere on the album even more. Notably on "My Elixir" and "Artefect."
