Your final 2. MosaicEarly SummerTale of the Tape:This was the top 2 for every movement. There was even an unbreakable tie for 1st at some point. These songs have a combined 25 top 5s, 4 being #1s. 1 bottom 5 remains: nathanalbright's 13 No player can get a perfect top 2. The best pairing of remaining rankings is 1 vs 3, shared by Trilogy and razorshark. samo🦕 is the only player with no top 5s left. One of these songs is the lowest SD. The winning margin is 7 points.

Hard Bop vs Hard Bop. Not exactly the top two I expected but they’re both great choices.

Despite the relatively small point gap, "Early Summer" felt like it was as in control of this rankdown as it could possibly be the whole submissions process. Why? The lack of any ranking below #7, to start, but also the fact that when the song received its first non-top 5, every other song had received at least two such rankings. YouTube recommendation-core reigns supreme! Also, notice how a Japanese song won both Part 2s. Congrats to Trilogy and aerodynamite 1

{WE WENT BACK IN TIME, SO HERE'S A WORD WALL}#15: These jazz RDs are so good that a song that is objectively this good like this one can only get out of my bottom two. gates, I swear, you're evil sometimes #14: I'm contemplating if this should have been my last place song, if only because it's the one song that I had to re-listen to just to remember what it sounded like. It's still solid, I just barely remembered it. #13: Bossa-nova is a bit more hit or miss with me, but this was a hit. #12: My one complaint about this song (and the main reason why I ranked it last) is fairly simple: I really wish it was longer. Give me a couple more minutes of this. What was here was really good, I just wish there was more of it. #11: Yeah, McCoy was really, really solid. I'm offering up great commentary in this word wall lol #10: Listen to the way the sax moves. It's something to behold, even today. #9: I'm just not hugely into ragtime, but, even with that said, this is, obviously, one of the best ragtime pieces I've heard. #8: One fun exercise is going to listen to the actual love theme for the movie and then coming back to this and comparing and contrasting. Comparing the quality of the two performances seems odd, given how different the vibes are for the two, but I know which one I'd rather listen to on a daily basis. #7: I would have been fairly surprised if this didn't have a high SD. Almost feels like a song that could have fit into one of my Crazy RDs, which, given that it's Zappa, is not all that surprising. #6: When I listened to this, the first thing I thought was "this is giving me 'intro to GTA' vibes", which is, given my ranking, obviously a compliment. #5: I'm surprised it has the highest SD, but not surprised in the slightest that it has a high SD, given the subject matter and given how dark of a song it is. Biggest surprise of the RD, by far, was the fact that this wasn't in my top two, but we'll get back to that. #4: Absolutely phenomenal. I'm so upset that I couldn't rank this higher, you have no idea, and I'm even more upset that, somehow, this wasn't my favorite discovery. #3: This is better than "Moanin'". I'll just start there. As much as I love Bitches Brew, The Black Saint is the jazz record that all others must be compared to. This, to me, is just about the highest peak jazz has ever reached. It is performed perfectly. The only reason it's "just about the highest peak" is because it's topped by a song on the same album. #2: Okay, I'm not gonna lie, I'm disappointed with this result. This should have won, and it should have won running away. This was THE best discovery I've had in a rankdown in a long, long time. Blakey has been a very blind spot for me when it comes to jazz, and, if this is any indication of the general quality of his work, I have been sorely missing out. I mean, shit, I ranked this higher than "Gloomy Sunday", for christ's sake. #1: Obviously, even with my disappointment in the end result, this was great. I felt myself swaying along to this involuntarily, it's like it forces you to move along. Well, I see my #1 in the last set already, and, much like "Solo Dancer", it will be very difficult to see another song top it for me, but it'll be fun to see other songs try.

Early Summer was the other great discovery for me from this batch. Nice to see it #1. Regarding my inescrutable submission habits, I tell you two factors: I like short rankdowns (I like to listen to all the songs in one listening session) and I like weekend deadlines. Looking forward to Part 3, expect my list some time between later today and 11/29

The second part was pretty unfamiliar to me, but I see a few songs on here I know and like so this is a more familiar and comfortable set for me personally.

Inca Roads felt more psychedelic but a feat just the same. Early Summer is a worthy win, it captures a hope the summer brings.
If/when I submit for rankdowns is usually on the deadline date and I like this series so I’ll prob have pt.3 for you on the 29th!

I got my list ready early again. I hope to do better in Rankdown Closeness than I did in part 2. Part 3 includes more well-known songs and includes one of the most delightful jazz recordings I've ever heard.

While we're waiting for more lists, here's a song that appeared on SiriusXMU last week that took me by surprise.
