Move over, TALK, White Reaper is taking over the top spot of the Billboard AAA Chart with "Pages." This is also White Reaper's first BB AAA #1. They previously peaked in the top 10 with "Might Be Right" in 2019.
This is the second #1 of 2023

This really doesn't do much for me. It's not bad, just nothing special. Surprised it's top 10 when "Real Long Time" barely went top 20 Totally. "Real Long Time" blows this out of the water.

Surprised it's top 10 when "Real Long Time" barely went top 20 ”Real Long Time” was approaching the top 10 when the Audacy changes in September 2020 completely screwed it over. It should have been a much bigger hit but a certain incompetent programmer with too much power who is on the record as disliking alternative rock (you know, the BACKBONE OF THE FORMAT) had other ideas. You would think White Reaper’s youth and cool kid appeal would have spared them but no. “Real Long Time” is far from the only song robbed of its potential at the time, but it perhaps is the most egregious example.

Did their album even chart? I was looking on Billboard and couldn't find it.
It seems like they've had some tough luck having a hit song during COVID and the programming problems mentioned above.
I also don't hear a second single on this new album.

Personally I like this about as much as "Real Long Time" (not quite as much as "Might Be Right"), but yes, that song did get screwed over by Audacy. This is obviously doing better due to the format climate being more favorable towards White Reaper's style now, as well as it being the lead-off single.

I do remember this situation now. That was absolutely ridiculous. Now I gotta go back and look to see which other songs were impacted

I called the affected songs the “Kaplan Kasualties” because I felt the songs’ prospects had all suffered fatal blows, so referencing Mortal Kombat seemed appropriate. Major Kasualties: 17 20 MILKY CHANCE & JACK JOHNSON Don't Let Me Down 825 946 -121 1.908 14 21 WHITE REAPER Real Long Time 803 1015 -212 1.189 23 25 CHRIS CORNELL Patience 582 626 -44 1.134 25 31 DREAMERS Heat Seeker f/Grandson 463 556 -93 0.525 28 32 SILVERSUN PICKUPS Toy Soldiers 425 480 -55 0.35 27 33 NEON TREES New Best Friend 395 480 -85 0.327 33 34 SAINT MOTEL Preach 376 413 -37 0.622 31 35 GROUPLOVE Inside Out 364 431 -67 0.314 30 36 NOTHING BUT THIEVES Real Love Song 363 432 -69 0.268 38 43 ALMOST MONDAY Broken People 273 303 -30 0.606 Also "Save Myself" by Ashe, which dropped out of the top 50. It eventually came back but never made the top 40. Minor Kasualties (these were in light rotation at a few of the affected stations): 24 24 SUB URBAN Freak f/Rei Ami 614 622 -8 0.612 40 41 LOVELYTHEBAND Buzz Cut 294 299 -5 0.391 44 44 DEFTONES Ohms 267 269 -2 0.412 In addition, then-newly launched songs by Smashing Pumpkins, Joji, Phoenix, and beabadoobee all dramatically slowed down due to Entercom cutting them from rotation the same week they had been added. The Killers' "My Own Soul's Warning" was also affected by the changes, but all Entercom/Audacy stations that were playing it on medium or heavy dropped it to light which gave it a -7 bullet at the time. None of the affected songs ever made the Alt top 10 (besides “My Own Soul’s Warning” which was already there). Most were gone from the chart within six weeks of being purged off of Entercom/Audacy Alts. More subsequently released songs had their peaks artificially lowered due to not having favor with Mike Kaplan; more than could possibly be listed.

I feel like The Interrupters' "Gave You Everything" is another follow-up single that could have done better if not for Kaplan. WNYL didn't even play "She's Kerosene" after all.
