With Madonna recently seeming to overlook the ground Donna Summer and others paved, I came to look for an album thread for Bad Girls and realized there isn't one. Shameful! Released in 1979, Bad Girls was #1 on the Billboard 200 for 6 weeks and contained the #1 hits "Hot Stuff" and "Bad Girls" and the #2 hit "Dim All the Lights." Bad Girls was nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammys, and remarkably got Summer nods in three different Vocal categories: Pop, R&B, and Rock (she won Rock Female for "Hot Stuff").
You can hear the influence of Summer in a lot of 1980s movie themes (from Irene Cara to Deniece Williams), but Summer also really laid the groundwork for Madonna, Beyonce, Christina, etc to merge genres, and to sing about their sexuality. Bad Girls more than any other album of hers is the prime example, though "Love to Love You Baby" is also a good example.

This album is amazing! When I was a kid I mostly just loved all the uptempos. Through the years being a huge Donna fan I grew to love the ballads as well. I thought they moved on from this project to quickly and could have had another single or two. I think she started running into issues with the label and management at the time.. Favorite tracks are the three big singles. I also love and still play “Walk Away and Our Love” All the uptempo tracks are good in my opinion. I really like “My Baby Understands” which ends kind of Stevie Nicks like. “There Will Always Be A You” is one of the ballads that’s a favorite of mine as well. The whole album is good in my opinion not many if any skips for me.
Edit: She looks beyond hot on the album cover. Go Donna!
