It really is insane. The next album passes Barbra on the leaderboard, and she has a chance of reaching Jay-Z’s total within the next couple years.

Taylor Swift has long been a powerhouse on Billboard’s charts, from her 2006 debut single “Tim McGraw” through her latest re-recorded album, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).
On the July 22, 2023-dated charts, Swift continues her impressive chart-topping history, as Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) becomes her 12th No. 1 album on the Billboard 200, pushing her past Barbra Streisand for the most in the chart’s history among women. She ties Drake for the third-most No. 1s among all acts, after The Beatles (19) and Jay-Z (14).
The set also becomes her ninth album to sell at least 500,000 copies in a single week, as it opens with 507,000 sold, according to Luminate. Since Luminate began tracking music sales in 1991, no other artist has more albums that have sold a half-million in one week.
Looking at the entire Billboard 200, Swift also makes history as she sets a new record for the most albums to chart in a single week: 11. Only Prince and The Beatles have charted more albums simultaneously in a single week since 1963, when the chart combined stereo and mono titles. Prince charted 19 on May 14, 2016, in the first week after his death, and then 13 on May 28, 2016. The Beatles charted 14 on Dec. 4, 2010, and then 13 on March 1, 2014, and 11 on Jan. 9, 2010.
On the Billboard Hot 100, all 22 songs from the set debut, upping her career total to 212 entries, passing the Glee cast for the second-most of all time after Drake (296).
She also adds to her historic totals for top 10s (42), top 20s (73), and top 40s (119).

Here Are All the Hot 100 & Billboard 200 Chart Records That Taylor Swift Has Broken From Taylor Swift to 1989 (Taylor's Version), here's a look at every record she's smashed on both charts.
By Xander Zellner
11/7/2023
Taylor Swift has long been a powerhouse on Billboard’s charts, from her 2006 debut single “Tim McGraw” through her latest re-recorded album, 1989 (Taylor’s Version).
Swift continues her impressive chart-topping history on the latest, Nov. 11, 2023-dated charts, as 1989 (Taylor’s Version) becomes her 13th No. 1 album on the Billboard 200, tying Drake for the third-most of all time, after the Beatles (19) and Jay-Z (14).
The album debuts with 1.653 million equivalent album units earned in its opening week, according to Luminate. That’s not only the largest one-week total of 2023, but it’s the biggest week since for any album since the opening week of Adele’s 25 on Nov. 15, 2015 (3.482 million). Of those 1.653 million units, 1.359 million were in traditional album sales, becoming Swift’s biggest one-week total ever. That sales sum is also the sixth-largest since Luminate began tracking music sales after 1991, after the opening weeks of Adele’s 25 (3.378 million), *NSYNC’s No Strings Attached (2.416 million, in 2000), *NSYNC’s Celebrity (1.878 million, 2001), Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP (1.76 million, 2000), Backstreet Boys’ Black & Blue (1.591 million, 2000).
On the Billboard Hot 100, Swift charts all 21 songs from 1989 (Taylor’s Version), along with her recent No. 1 “Cruel Summer.” “Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault)” succeeds “Cruel Summer” at No. 1, becoming her 11th leader, tying Whitney Houston for the eighth-most of all time. Swift was already the only woman to replace herself at No. 1 on the Hot 100 (thanks to “Blank Space” supplanting “Shake It Off” in 2014), and now she’s the first woman to replace herself at No. 1 twice.
As Swift continues to achieve more history, here’s a look at all the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 chart records that she’s broken in her career, all through the charts dated Nov. 11, 2023.
It’s worth noting that, as streaming has become more prominent in recent years, certain acts have been able to achieve impressive Hot 100 feats after releasing high-profile albums. The model contrasts with prior decades, when acts generally promoted one single at a time in the physical-only marketplace and on radio. That shift in consumption helps explain why artists have been able to increase their total number of career entries and top 10s over short spans in recent years.

Most Albums in the Top 100 of the Billboard 200 Simultaneously Among Women

There has only been one other instance—since 1963, when the chart combined stereo and mono titles—of an artist charting at least 10 albums in the top 100 in the same week: Prince landed 15 in the top 100 of the Billboard 200 on May 14, 2016, after his death.

Only The Monkees have amassed more in a calendar year, with four in 1967. She’s the only woman to score new No. 1s in five consecutive calendar years in history. Two items to add:
- Far and away, Taylor Swift is the artist with the most total weeks on the Hot 100. As of this week, songs credited strictly to her have spent a total of 1,339 weeks on the Hot 100. That doesn't even include songs where she shares credit or is featured. Add her shared credits and she's at an astounding 1572 weeks. At #2 on this list is Elton John distantly back at 889 solo, 1077 all credits. (NOTE: Solo, Drake is at 881 weeks, but adding in all his features, he's ahead at 3,133 weeks)
- With her points on this week's chart, Taylor has in a single week passed both The Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney (with or without Wings) on the all-time Hot 100 artist list. She frog-leaps from #14 to #12, not far behind Rihanna (#11) and Whitney (#10).

Here Are All the Hot 100 & Billboard 200 Chart Records That Taylor Swift Has Broken From Taylor Swift to 1989 (Taylor's Version), here's a look at every record she's smashed on both charts.
By Xander Zellner
04/16/2024
Taylor Swift has long been a powerhouse on Billboard’s charts, dating all the way back to her 2006 debut single, “Tim McGraw.” In recent years, the superstar has reached unprecedented heights, thanks to her latest original material and rerecorded versions of her earlier albums.
Swift’s most recent rerecord, 1989 (Taylor’s Version), became her 13th No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 in November 2023, extending her record for the most leaders among solo women. To date, only The Beatles and Jay-Z have more, with 19 and 14, respectively. In its opening week, 1989 (Taylor’s Version) sold 1.359 million copies in the U.S., according to Luminate. It became her record-extending sixth album to sell at least 1 million copies in a single week, after Speak Now (1.046 million; Nov. 13, 2010), Red (1.208 million; Nov. 10, 2012), 1989 (1.286 million; Nov. 15, 2014), Reputation (1.216 million; Dec. 2, 2017) and Midnights (1.14 million; Nov. 5, 2022).
Among Swift’s other album achievements: the most albums to sell 500,000 copies in a single week in the Luminate data era (1991-present) (10); the most vinyl albums sold in a week (693,000, for 1989 [Taylor’s Version]); and the most albums on the Billboard 200 in a single week among women (11).
Swift’s Billboard Hot 100 accolades are just as impressive. She leads all women for the most top five, top 10, top 20 and top 40 hits, as well as overall chart appearances. Plus, she’s the only artist in history to claim all 10 spots of the top 10 at the same time (Nov. 5, 2022, all from Midnights).
As Swift continues to achieve more history, here’s a look at all the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 chart records that she’s broken in her career, through the charts dated April 20, 2024.

All ten of her albums have made the top-ten year-end of at least 1 year.
Taylor Swift - #5 in 2008 Fearless - #1 in 2009, #7 in 2010 Speak Now - #9 in 2010, #2 in 2011 Red - #4 in 2012, #2 in 2013 1989 - #3 in 2014, #1 in 2015 Reputation - #1 in 2018 Lover - #4 in 2019, #9 in 2023 Folklore - #5 in 2020 Evermore - #4 in 2021 Midnights - #4 in 2022, #2 in 2023
Though I’m curious about the BB200 year-end, as 1989 debuted on 15 November 2014, but isn’t that when the 2015 chart-year began (third-week of November is when chart year begin)? What allowed 1989 to make the 2014 chart?

‘The Tortured Poets Department’: All the Records Taylor Swift’s New Album Has Broken (So Far) The 31-track LP sold 1.4 million copies in its first day.
By Hannah Dailey
04/28/2024
Taylor Swift was gunning for a truly epic release week long before The Tortured Poets Department actually dropped, with the pop star surprising fans by unleashing 31 new songs — as opposed to the previously confirmed 16 main and four bonus tracks — in the span of two hours April 19.
She’d been crafting the sprawling, Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner-produced project for about two years before it finally arrived, with the singer telling fans at a February Eras Tour show that she’d been working on it since the moment she submitted the Billboard 200-topping Midnights to her label some time in 2022. The unavoidable news cycle about her breakups from longtime boyfriend Joe Alwyn and The 1975’s Matty Healy, as well as her blossoming romance with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, only added fuel to the fire of hype leading up to Tortured Poets, which Swift further stoked by saying at another Eras concert, “I’ve never had an album where I needed songwriting more.”
Come April 19, and her inimitable lyricism, discourse-provoking songwriting and apparent allusions to the aforementioned relationships proved to be more than enough to make millions of listeners tune in, the 14-time Grammy winner smashing records left and right in the process. Before Tortured Poets even hit the Billboard charts, it was doing unprecedented numbers in streaming, sales and vinyl — not to mention selling 1.4 million copies in its first day on the market, according to Luminate — giving Swift’s peers a run for their money in more ways than one.
Keep reading to see all of the major records The Tortured Poets Department has broken — so far — below.
Spotify's Most Pre-Saved Countdown
Before Tortured Poets was even released, its countdown page on Spotify broke the streaming service’s record for most pre-saves in history. The countdown launched on March 28, two weeks ahead of the album’s release date, inviting Swifties to watch as each second ticked down.
Spotify also continuously updated the tab with links to the pop star’s merch as well as cryptic videos of Swift printing lyrics from the LP with a typewriter.
Single-Week Vinyl Sales
Of Tortured Poets 1.5 million first-week sales, 700,000 of those copies were vinyl. That breaks Swift’s own record for the largest sales week for an album on vinyl in the modern era, or since Luminate began tracking data in 1991, beating the 693,000 sold of 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in its first week in 2023.
Prior to its release, Tay announced four vinyl variants of Tortured Poets — “The Manuscript,” “The Albatross,” “The Bolter” and “The Black Dog” — each containing the 16 songs on the album’s main tracklist plus one bonus song.
Single-Day Spotify Album Streams
Not only did Tortured Poets become Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single day in history in less than 12 hours after its release, it also became the first album on the platform to amass more than 300 million streams in a single day ever.
The streaming service’s previous single-day record-holder was Beyoncé, whose Cowboy Carter garnered 300.41 million on-demand official streams in its first full week of release.
Single-Day Spotify Song Streams
Similarly, the opening track on The Tortured Poets Department — “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone — broke Spotify’s record for the most streams ever garnered by one song in a day.
Apple Music Pop Albums
Apple Music also shared that The Tortured Poets Department had broken its record for biggest pop album of all time by first-day streams shortly after the LP’s release.
Fastest Album to 1 Billion Streams on Spotify
Just five days after TTPD was released, it became the first album in Spotify history to surpass one billion streams in a single week. It now stands as the fastest album in history to hit the milestone.
Biggest Streaming Week of All Time
In its first six days on the market, Tortured Poets became the most streamed album in a single week with 799 million streams across all platforms, surpassing Drake’s previous record of 745.92 million with his 2018 LP Scorpion, according to Luminate.
Historic Billboard 200 Debut
Ready for it? The Tortured Poets Department made a massive debut in its first week, not only starting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart dated May 4, but also nabbed the record for largest streaming week ever for an album since the chart started measuring by units in December 2014. Its first-week total came to 2.61 million, with album sales accounting for 1.914 million of that number.
With TTPD reaching the summit to become her 14th chart-topper, she now ties Jay-Z for most No. 1s among solo artists.

All ten of her albums have made the top-ten year-end of at least 1 year. Taylor Swift - #5 in 2008 Fearless - #1 in 2009, #7 in 2010 Speak Now - #9 in 2010, #2 in 2011 Red - #4 in 2012, #2 in 2013 1989 - #3 in 2014, #1 in 2015 Reputation - #1 in 2018 Lover - #4 in 2019, #9 in 2023 Folklore - #5 in 2020 Evermore - #4 in 2021 Midnights - #4 in 2022, #2 in 2023 Though I’m curious about the BB200 year-end, as 1989 debuted on 15 November 2014, but isn’t that when the 2015 chart-year began (third-week of November is when chart year begin)? What allowed 1989 to make the 2014 chart? 1989 was released on October. it was dated november under billboard's weird date system. regardless, its funny how she could have 2-3 more #1s if she just doesnt do late Q4 releases. well i guess it dosent matter. she can take the #1 of the year anytime she wants no, even with re-recordings.

Why is "Lover" on Billboard's Catalog Albums chart? Did it ever slip below #100 after reaching two years on the chart? (Is that still the criterion for an album becoming "catalog" to Billboard?)
