It's finally time for the Lost Hits series to return to the 1970s! This rankdown will follow much the same format as the previous 70s rankdowns before it. The song list here features 50 of the most noteworthy songs from 1977 that charted on the Hot 100 but did not make the year-end lists. When ranking the songs, if there is anyother version/remix/edit that you prefer other than the one in the Spotify playlist, feel free to rank that version. If you've participated in any other rankdowns you know how these work. Just listen to all of the songs and rank them from 1 (best) to 50 (worst) based on your personal preference. PM me your ranking, and I will compile everyone's lists and present the results. The due date is set for Sunday, January 15th at 10PM EST. Have fun and happy ranking!!! 10cc - Good Morning Judge ABBA - Money, Money, Money Aerosmith - Back in the Saddle Al Stewart - On the Border Automatic Man - My Pearl The Babys - Isn't It Time The Bar-Kays - Too Hot to Stop Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band - Rock and Roll Never Forgets Boney M. - Daddy Cool Boston - Peace of Mind Cerrone - Love in C Minor Chilliwack - Fly at Night Commodores - Brick House Dave Mason - We Just Disagree David Bowie - Sound and Vision Deniece Williams - Free Donna Summer - I Feel Love The Doobie Brothers - It Keeps You Runnin' Elvis Presley - Moody Blue First Choice - Dr. Love George Harrison - Crackerbox Palace Grace Jones - I Need a Man Heart - Dreamboat Annie Hot Chocolate - So You Win Again Idris Muhammad - Could Heaven Ever Be Like This Jackson Browne - The Pretender The Jacksons - Show You the Way to Go Johnny "Guitar" Watson - A Real Mother for Ya Judy Collins - Send in the Clowns KISS - Love Gun Klaatu - Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft Leo Sayer - Thunder in My Heart Loleatta Holloway - Dreamin' Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Spirits in the Night The Marshall Tucker Band - Can't You See Mother's Finest - Baby Love The Philadelphia International All-Stars - Let's Clean Up the Ghetto Queen - Tie Your Mother Down Ramones - Sheena Is a Punk Rocker REO Speedwagon - Ridin' the Storm Out Rod Stewart - The First Cut Is the Deepest Rose Royce - I'm Going Down The Rubinoos - I Think We're Alone Now Rush - Closer to the Heart Silvetti - Spring Rain Smokie - Living Next Door to Alice Stevie Wonder - Another Star T-Connection - Do What You Wanna Do Van Morrison - Moondance Waylon Jennings - Luckenbach, Texas Spotify playlist: "My Pearl" isn't on Spotify but you can listen to it in the YouTube link below: *NOTE: The actual versions of "Spirits in the Night" and "Ridin' the Storm Out" that charted on the Hot 100 in 1977 differ from the original versions of both songs. What charted are a re-recording of "Spirits in the Night" and a live version of "Ridin' the Storm Out". You may rank whichever version of each song that you prefer. I've included the original album versions of both songs in the Spotify playlist as these are the most popular recordings of each whereas you can listen to the actual versions that charted in the YouTube links below: Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Spirits in the Night [Re-Recording] REO Speedwagon - Ridin' the Storm Out [Live] Tag list (All are welcome to participate! Oh, I am in. There are some great songs here. Quite a few - at least half - I don't know. I added a good 10 to 15 to my Spotify playlist from the 1978 Lost Hits rankdown.

submitted. Solid list, about 15 great finds I had never heard before. Less than a handful of songs I could have done without hearing.
Forgot how incredible my #1, surprised it did so mediocre on the charts.

Let's not bury this thread. I'll definitely chime in. Stallion's top 40 hit "Old Fashioned Boy" would have ranked as my #1, but still mostly winners here!

Charlene with 3 songs at 96, 97 and 97. That takes precision to land that low on the charts. (Though one of them did quite better five years later...) Also interesting to see that Boney M and Ma Baker was huge (top 10) in what looks like 20 countries - everywhere but the US and Canada, though it did hit #1 in Mexico.

How do you get to release that many flop singles in a year? That is extremely impressive.

There really isn't a bad version of "Feel the Need" by anyone, IMO. Though I prefer the original by the Detroit Emeralds, such a funky tune. Also, It's Uncanny by Hall and Oates is really quite good, this was a cast off/leftover from when they were on Atlantic and had already moved over to RCA. RCA put out a new album and they went to #1 w/ Rich Girl. And Atlantic put out a retrospective and tacked on a couple new songs. No wonder this one didn't do anything, but it really is good.
And of course, you can't go wrong with most Dolly and Donna songs, though I enjoyed Winter Melody a bit more than Spring Affair.

Gene Cotton: Another solid top 5 fave Glen Campbell: I may be one of VERY few who knows this is DEFINITELY NOT the Post Malone song of the same title (and I know both songs well). I'll just say I'm more into older stuff.
