This was a year where I canβt really think of a song that took over the world like there has been in years past. WDTAB and RUTH were, in my opinion, the biggest cultural moments before Midnights dropped. And even then, that had more to do with Encanto and Stranger Things being huge moments. Anti-Hero had by far the most points in a week, but not only did it come out very late, its huge sales werenβt so much about demand for the song itself as it was demand for Swiftβs concert. As such, I think I would have to value the longevity of As it Was as the defining song of the year. It was the biggest hit of the year and has had more staying power than any other hit, and itβs not close

As It Was in my opinion. It came out near the beginning of the year and is still on many charts even now.

When I look back on 2022, itβs gonna be the year of AIW and ATD. Those two songs were inescapable this year and both are destined to become decade classics.
*I gave my vote to AIW since it was the biggest song of the year.

As It Was, easily. That song was probably more year-defining than Blinding Lights was for 2020

Numb Little Bug should be a mention as well, at least an honorable mention. For many in 2022, it's considered a nice feel good anthem.

I actually really like all of these songs -- even Unholy, which has grown on me a lot. "Anti-Hero" might be the very best of the bunch, but it came too late in the year to define it. Therefore "As it Was" gets the crown. (Also a great song, though it did suffer from overplay.)

It's objectively As It Was but its subjectively RUTH for me cause it was huge this year in and of itself + cause of Stranger Things as well.

Heat Waves. That song was everywhere for the entire year, and as someone who loves that song, I'm not mad about that at all.

--> Bad Habit <-- Not as big as As It Was, but represents the current musical mold better. Both songs are part of the growing dreamy pop (?) (seriously what do we call this current era?) phase, but Bad Habit also has distorted guitars + more trap-like melodies, traits that scream 2022. Also the song's TikTok fiasco demonstrating the app's impact on music

as it was, both off how massive it was and the way it was indicative of the year's trends as a whole

Wait what fiasco are you talking about lmao? at his concerts people only knew the chorus I am a little shocked that people would actually spend that kind of money to buy tickets to go to a show to see someone that they seem to like because of 15 to 30 seconds only while artists who actually have fans struggle to sell tickets.
