Meet Miley Cyrus debuted at #1 with 326k.* Breakout debuted at #1 with 371k. The Time of Our Lives debuted at #3 with 62k.** Can't Be Tamed debuted at #3 with 102k. Bangerz debuted at #1 with 270k. Younger Now debuted at #5 with 45k. She Is Coming debuted at #5 with 36k.*** Plastic Hearts debuted at #2 with 60k.****
*Meet Miley Cyrus was packaged as a 2-disc set with the second season soundtrack to Hannah Montana. **The Time of Our Lives was an EP originally exclusively sold at Walmart. ***She Is Coming was an EP with no physical format available to my knowledge. ****Plastic Hearts suffered from lack of physical distribution due to COVID and Black Friday shortages.
So this is set to be her biggest opening since Bangerz, fourth biggest opening overall, second album in a row to debut in the top 3 and 7th overall, and is looking at an increase of at least 92% on the opening of her last album and a whopping 156% increase against her last album with no distribution errors. And "River" is eying for a top 20 Hot 100 entry, earning her two top 20 entries on said chart since 2014.
This is a major win for her IMO.

New label, #1 single debut, Columbia doing her right. I'm assuming promo is going to continue during this run.

This bitch…
Anyway, a six-figure opening for her is a win IMO. It should turn into another Gold/Platinum album under her belt and maybe even snag her a Grammy.

It's quite amazing how Miley has managed to turn herself around after Younger Now. I hope the projections increase a bit as the week goes on and she gets to closer to 150k.

Another perfect album. I completely forgot it was out yesterday. Hopefully others did too, and it picks up.

The album that never ends... I mean 'THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT: THE ANTHOLOGY' out now!

So I saw the physical CD at my local Target and noticed that the back cover doesn't contain a tracklist. I've noticed it happening more recently (another example being 'Chromatica'). I wonder why that is.

Well, the cover also doesn't have her name or title of the album, so I am guessing it's just a stylistic choice. She really sells the new songs on her backyard special effectively enough to make me go back to them, especially Wildcard and Island. She sounded excellent throughout the special and looked phenomenal.

Just came here to say… not her best effort overall but violet chemistry has to probably be my favorite song from her ever… the bridge into the final chorus is perfection. Absolutely needs to be 3rd single

The album had a deal where different tracks got played at the top of the hour. Probably on iHeartRadio stations. A few other artists have had this deal happen before too: Ariana, Harry, Taylor, etc. The threshold being so low right now is what let "Wonder Woman" debut. We'll probably see "Thousand Miles" enter in a day or two as well before the rolling effect hits and they disappear. "Thousand Miles" and "Jaded" also appear on Spincrease. "Jaded" is probably too far away to enter, though. I only see these album tracks getting like 5-10 spins a day from here until the rolling effect kicks in. yes, I know about the deal, but I find it surprising that it's "Wonder Woman" and not "Jaded" making the Top 50 on Day 1, or literally any other song tbh lol. "Wonder Woman" was such a bore, and it's the last track on the album. good for her, either way. "Thousand Miles" and/or "Jaded" making the cut would be cool! I don't believe Brandi Carlile charted on CHR before. there we go Au$tin: SUNDAY PUBLISHED UPDATE:1 1 MILEY CYRUS Flowers 18973 18994 -21 63.454 -- 33 MILEY CYRUS River 993 0 993 5.009 -- 47 MILEY CYRUS Wonder Woman 231 0 231 1.063-- 49 MILEY CYRUS Thousand Miles f/B. Late to the party, but I found this to be a very enjoyable and cohesive listen start to finish. After listening all weekend, I designate "River", "Handstand", and "Violet Chemistry" as God tier. "Island", "Jaded", "Wildcard", and of course "Flowers" are the other standouts. Would love to see this get some attention come award season, it deserves. All in all, it's a win.

After spending time with this album all weekend, it has significantly grown on me, which was my hope. As I mentioned before, her Backyard Sessions greatly changed my viewpoint on some of the songs I didn't really appreciate. Also, listening to the album in Dolby Atmos made a HUGE difference, as the production popped a lot more for me. Originally, I called out certain songs as sounding cheap, but I recant that statement. Honestly, it feels like I am listening to a completely different album than the one I listened to on release day. Due to the strength of my top 6, I would rate this a B+.
Updated ranking:
1. Rose Colored Lenses (I LOVE the vibe of this, even though it reminds me of a better version of Grapejuice by Harry Styles.) 2. Flowers (One of Miley's best.) 3. Island (This song is sooo pretty and she sold the hell out of it during the Backyard Sessions. It stuck out when I first heard it and I love it even more for how it makes me feel when I listen to it.) 4. You (Still think this song is one of the strongest on the album.) 5. River (The more I listen to this, the more I feel like it was the best choice for single #2. The chorus is extremely repetitive, but most smashes suffer from the same fate, so I can't really hold that against the song. The production does go really hard. Makes me wanna dance and I am obsessed with the bridge.) 6. Handstand (OMG this song is so wild and yet, it works! I really dig the psychadelic vibe. Definitely the closest she comes to Dead Petz on this album, but, that said, this song is still much more polished, better produced, and catchier than anything on that project.) 7. Wonder Woman (This song really is beautiful and a perfect album closer.) 8. Jaded (I appreciate the 90's alt vibe of this and I think it would make a strong single, but not personally one of my favorites on the album.) 9. Wildcard (The Backyard Sessions version>>> but I really like the lyrics of this one. The production and the way the song all comes together seems a little disjointed, but at least it's interesting.) 10. Thousand Miles (I loved how she explained how this one came together. Definitely made me appreciate it more and it feels like a throwback to Inspirational Miley, a la The Climb.) 11. Violet Chemistry (This one is still kinda weird for me, but I no longer hate it. It feels even more repetitive than River to me. Also, why is the floor wet? Is this supposed to be a Sapphic anthem? That's my read on it.) 12. Muddy Feet (Still at the bottom of the pile for me.)

Not gonna lie, I'm kinda rooting for "Island" to become the third single. It's got such a cute little summery vibe to it. I can already imagine the captivating video that could go with it, drop it just before Memorial Day.

I feel like Pulse would riot but since it's in my top 3 of the album, I would LOVE it to be released, from a personal standpoint or at least give me a video. The way she moved her body like a snake Lisa Rinna when she performed this during the Backyard Sessions makes me want more! But yeah, the song is so beautiful. It actually makes me kinda sad.

This is currently at 80% on Metacritic, while Plastic Hearts had 75%... I mean, I'm happy, but how??? Comparatively, Bangerz and Younger Now are only 60%... I think it comes down to goodwill. Critics are known to regularly praise certain artists (who don’t always deserve it) and regularly criticize other artists (who don’t always deserve it). Miley did a complete image overhaul between PH and ESV which put her in the goodwill of both critics and the public, so I’m not surprised that critics are on her side now, more than ever before. Both albums are good, but Plastic Hearts is easily superior.

Critics just may have gotten it right this time. Hallelu!
Edit: Down to 78, but still her most acclaimed!

Podcast episode is LIVE!!!!! While it's not the same high as Plastic Hearts, it's an expertly written and produced album that's cohesive and captures the feeling of LA. S1E23 - Endless Summer Vacation

I’m not sure the last album I’ve listened to in full with repeated listens like I have this. Actually, I could skip Wonder Woman but it’s lovely nonetheless. I’m completely loving her this era. She looks fantastic, glowing and sparkling. :)

OK numbers. I have a feeling nothing else from the album is a hit single though. Still a major win for her.
