I'll believe when I see it, we've heard this story so many times. It's the first time I heard it from a chart predictor. Last year it did get super close to Mariah (like 6 points behind which in a normal week would be considered a chart battle that could potentially go either way) one week but that seemed to fly under the radar, I didn't see much discussion about it. Actually a lot of chart twtiter accounts (including talk of the charts) announced just 3 weeks ago that Mariah and Brenda were neck to neck competing for the #1 spot in the Hot 100. Taylor ended up winning that battle with the remixes and Mariah finished at #2 and Brenda at #3. I think Mariah will probably retain the top position, but this kind of competiting makes it more interesting. Hopefully Brenda will get at least 1 week at #1 in the following seasons. Keep in mind that streaming for Xmas songs did not increased massively only in Spotify, but also in Apple and Amazon. Also, based on previous years, Mariah has a better hold on the 26th and the 27th while the rest collapse in streams. We'll see

What do you guys think the chances of Brenda being #1 this week are? Hard to see it, honestly. Mariah leads on all other platforms and Spotify makes up only about 1/4 to 1/3 of their overall streams. Mariah leads by a ton on YouTube, for instance, has consistently been several spots higher on Apple Music (where sheβs been No. 1) and leads Brenda on Amazon. I take it back, there is a possibility apparently, per the posts above. I just wonder how much Mariahβs lead on various platforms rose in relation to Brenda, just the way Brendaβs did for these three days on Spotify. Seems like they would, but we only have the numbers for Spotify, so itβs easy to say Brenda is gaining on her.

I didn't even notice the YE chart coming out, when was this? It's all some people here talk about all year long, how did it go so unnoticed? Was it really just me?

^Probably you. In general, it doesn't mentioned in the weekly Hot 100 thread, unless the probable year-end cutoff week is getting close. I guess you haven't been reading the year-end Hot 100 predictions threads. The 2022 YE charts were released on December 1st.

I dont think people actually care about YE charts. Only the predictions. Which is odd because some people gauge whether something is even a hit based on if it makes the YE which is still outrageous to me.

To be fair, the actual year end chart that billboard release in december doesnt feel quite as important or exciting when we've had dozens of people keeping track of every song's performance and have basically a 95% accurate year end chart before billboard release theirs that everyone here can keep up with every week.

I didn't even notice the YE chart coming out, when was this? It's all some people here talk about all year long, how did it go so unnoticed? Was it really just me? It comes out every year in early December (exact date has varied over the years), but it has always been this way, and every avid chart watcher would know this, so yes this must be just you.

This doesn't quite make sense, because if they care about the predictions, they would care about seeing the final result of the actual Year-End charts. And I don't think it's so much that we use it to gauge whether something is a hit, but how big of a hit it is, and if anyone can't understand that, that would be outrageous to me.

I would say making the year-end chart is a good rough estimate for if you can classify a song as a hit to be honest. Years ago (even still today) there were a lot of people who would just call almost everything a flop except the few biggest songs. Which I thought was ridiculous, but if you can show a song was the 50th biggest song of the year it puts things into perspective a lot more and you can compare songs to each other more easily that way too. Like Rihanna's recent single, it hasn't had a normal chart run compared to most songs really, but its position in a year-end chart might help tell the story of its success better than just its weekly peak. I think the main flaw is some big hits can miss the chart because they peak around October/November and are split between two years, but overall I think it's a good indicator of how successful songs were.

The top song on US TikTok this week was γγΆγ by YOASOBI, which is a Japanese song used alongside the viral anime AI filter trend (basically the filter turns you into an anime character). Also making an appearance are "Escapism", "Overdose", and "Kill Bill", which shows you how the collective consciousness is doing right about now. https://www.instagram.com/p/CmowiVhu8MN Global Numbers - Dec 26, 2022 Highlights:- Lady Gaga's Bloody Mary just keeps blowing up - now up to nearly half a million daily uses (#1 overall)
- Brenda Lee may have the edge on Spotify, but Mariah owns TikTok - AWFCIY (#2) leads RATCT (#7)
- Meghan Trainor's Made You Look is starting to slip, now out of the top 10 (#16 overall)
- PinkPantheress' Boy's A Liar is gaining some traction (#21)

This is probably one of the most interesting days in spotify history. Seeing the Christmas songs slowly go out while losing millions of streams at once, and the regular songs gain massively in both positions and streams is really something you never see until⦠literally next post-Christmas.
