Roadkill, Better Now, I Love You So, and Gasoline all would've been very high for me. (Gasoline top 3)
But it's an absolute travesty that my #100 is here. I know we got rid of all the memey stuff this song is a 000/10, it needs to go, it's unfair to weezer that their coveted #100 spot on my lists had to be taken from them. (Still a frontrunner for 2023 Alt though)

Ngl I was gonna try to be more active in this first set of reveals, but I just played new Fire Emblem instead :}
I'll try to catch up now! Because even if I don't have much to contribute in rankdown reveals usually, I do at least enjoy getting trash on the really bad stuff.
100: Life's Been Good - Correct #100. The thing about the Dirty Heads is that they are capable of making like, decent music. I'd say that I am at least...partially a Dirty Heads defender? I'll stand by Lay Me Down, Visions, Oxygen, probably a couple of other songs of theirs that are okay. It's just that when they're bad they're REALLY bad. I didn't know they'd be able to release something so shit it would give Vacation a run for its money (and then it would be their biggest hit in almost a decade), but they really went out and did it! You really have to go out of your way to bastardize a cover so much! Is it worse than Vacation though, no.
99: Life Goes On - You know, I did really like Hurt. When Oliver Tree first broke through I was really excited to see what would come from him. And it's all just sucked, monsterly. To Life Goes On's credit, I don't think the verses are that bad and I actually kinda like the minimalist instrumentation as well. Too bad it just has the most annoying hook that's ever been set to music.
98: Toxic - On the other hand, I don't mind the chorus so much on Toxic, but it's the shitty rapped verses and awful production that way it down. I do think this is a bad song, but like in such a juvenile and inoffensive way I can't harbor as much animosity towards it as a lot of you here.
97: I Won't - It's whatever, idc. I mean, AJR have done way worse than this, right. It's not my favorite song of theirs, but it's not their worse. Hardly worth commentary.
96: Emo Girl - Like, look, I don't hate Emo Girl. Like, if the lyrics weren't exceedingly dumb and juvenile and MGK wasn't an unlikable creep, would this song really be all that objectionable. I think in terms just of the music itself it's one of his better singles. UNFORTUNATELY, it is still, at the end of the day...Emo Girl by MGK. And that decreases its market value significantly.
95: Abcdefu - I wish I had something more interesting to say about abcdefu other than "girl this fuckin blows" but
94: Record Player - I guess it's a hot take to say I actually kind of love Record Player? Like, the AJR remix, not the original. I think it's really fascinating that this song that's a callout of the insincerity of the "indie culture" of a decade ago making the top 10 on the radio chart that kind of best represents that scene. And then the AJR features is like, weirdly out of place with the lyrical themes? It's such an odd act to feature on song of this sort, and I kind of live for the weirdness. And I like what they bring to the song too, I like the watery production, and even A, J, or R's vocals are like one of the most listenable to come from the band. Record Player is a catchy and self-critical, but also extremely weird in its existence, it's a really interesting song.
93: Daylight - I don't know how a song this boring was allowed to smash on the rock charts, honestly. Like, maybe on AAA in 2008, but girl I don't get it here. I can't act like Shinedown has been making great music for the past decade, but somehow they've just gotten so much worse in this new album era.
92: Blood Runs Red - Man, I can't believe that rock superstar MATT MAESON landed in the bottom 10?? What?? No but fr I do stay confused that this guy has two #1 alternative hits under his belt and I guess is, like, a radio staple now? It's 3 (4?) years after Cringe and I'm still like. Who tf is Matt Maeson. I don't hate this song, but it is probably his worst single.
91: Happy Face - Yeah, this is very much a Tik Tok sleeper hit. Has a big, catchy, faux edgy chorus that you can play in...30 second loops or whatever and not much else. I don't really mind it though? Faux edgy circus clownery is what the song is going for, and you know what, it succeeds at doing just that, I give it a gold star. Does it make for a great song outside of that, not really, but it's fun enough for me to say that I don't dislike it.
90: High Again - Maybe if this had actually come out in 2008 and wasn't trying to sound like 2008 via 2022 it would be more likable. It does have a lot of good emo-pop vibes and I don't think that the chorus is too bad, but it just has that stink of early 2020s pop punk revival (late 2020s pop punk revival) to it that makes it a little harder to stomach.
89: Enemy - I never want to hear this song again in my life, but at least it's .01 points better than Bones.
88: Bones - I never want to hear this song again in my life, but at least I've heard it fewer times than Enemy.
87: Natural Born Killer - This is a step above a lot of their stuff on their MCID era, but I think the most disappointing thing about it is how BORING it is. It's still very bad, but not even to a degree I can get mad about it. Sounds about 5 years after its time and is just so...misguided in its attempt to fuse rock, electronic, pop. So interesting to see how quickly this group completely sabotaged their career (and yet this still did go #1 on active and top 20 on alt so...guess it's not total sabotage).
86: Sun Keeps on Shining - Broken People and Live Forever were both more likable than this one and established a pretty distinct sound for this random band I've never heard anyone talk about outside of the context of alt radio charts. This one has some pretty annoying vocals at times, but I actually really dig the baggy-revival here? Lorde kinda did that with Solar Power (was that in 2021?? Feels like 2 or 3 years ago), but they REALLY pull it off here. I'm not a huge fan of baggy/madchester, but if there was a revival on the alt chart I'd kinda live for it I think

100: Life's Been Good (99) - Life may be good, but this song isn't.
99: Life Goes On (94) - Stupid lyrics and an annoying chorus are not the key to my ears.
98: Toxic (95) - The ukulele can be a great instrument in the right hands (see Eddie Vedder). These are not those hands.
97: I Won't (88) - At least the title was accurate.
96: Emo Girl (72) - Pop Punk typically gets at least a cursory listen from me, and this wasn't offensively bad. But it also didn't have anything that made me stick around.
95: Abcdefu (74) - Maybe not the WORST song pulse has piled on, but still not getting out of the bottom 25.
94: Record Player (51) - The closest I came to losing a top half song. I don't hate it. But it also tends to just fade into the background, which keeps it in my bottom half.
93: Daylight (89) - Boring.
92: Blood Runs Red (83) - I like "Hallucinogenics," but I keep getting diminishing returns with each new song I hear from him.
91: Happy Face (96) - a fake Happy face is what I have to make when someone I know wants to listen to this song around me.
90: High Again (100) - Alt radio is really trying to challenge my guilty pleasure love of pop punk, aren't they?
89: Enemy (81)- It gets a tiny point for being the theme to a great TV show (Arcane), but that only gets you to 81.
88: Bones (70)- More coherent than Enemy, but not by much. What happened to the creativity and lyricism they brought pre-Thunder (which is when they started to crash and burn for me)?
87: Natural Born Killer (90) - Lydia and Human were great songs. This? It's worse than the movie that it's named after.
86: Sun Keeps on Shining (92) - Annoying.
In the extras, I really liked "Roadkill." That's how to tap into the scuzzy 90s vibe and still sound fresh.

As I said previously, I’ve thought their older stuff (mostly pre-2016) was overhated on here. But this is a complete desecration of a great rock classic.

Life Goes On would have been my last as well.
Also, CountryLineDancer is unfortunately struggling on alt rankdowns too.

Imagine Dragons have definitely fallen into the "so bad it's fun" territory for me. Like they're obviously bad, but I don't think I've ever switched the radio station on "Enemy" before. And AYAYAYA will always makes me laugh.
