lord send a rankdown list properly formatted challenge (impossible) How many hosts does it take to not screw up rankdown results? Apparently more than three, maybe next year have five. I don't mean to chime in, well actually I do, but can't you just take a little bit more time and format your lists like the rest of us do? Surely that isn't a challenge...right? I mean your a one person angry mob right now against the hosts, are you ok bestie?

Finally lose my first bottom 10. surprised so many Yungblud fans No hate, but how did you not get a single bottom 10 make bottom 20 on the rankdown?

That's not necessary as it only seems to affect Coldplay songs' ranks.

I generally do do well in closeness with the year end rankings, so my tastes are more aligned with corporate radio's target demographic. So the outliers would be most fellow Pulse members, who are more likely to be dissatisfied with the current state of alternative radio.

How in a year this bad for the format do you all still manage to tank some of the actually good songs?

You know, with all of the errors and exclusions made in your submission, we could have just as easily not counted your list unless you re-formatted the list. That is a rule that is also in that first post. We could have just discarded your list entirely. Seriously, cool it, Lord.

I am too not awake to edit the graphics right now but yeah, of the stuff revealed right now the most important change is "compliance" moving up to 83 (thus, "grace" is now 84) please check your hyphens and make sure half of them didn't autocorrect into em dashes next time lol Ah ok, didn't know that hyphens vs dashes mattered. I just copied and pasted from the list on the thread, but yeah I guess some autocorrected lol. Sorry about that. Don't worry, the same thing used to unknowingly happen to me years ago - not sure what happened in your case but for me I would get some sneaky autocorrecting when I specifically made my lists in Word (I sometimes use a bilingual keyboard, so maybe that was the reason). I've been using Excel and/or Notepad afterwards and it hasn't happened to me since.

I do recall this happening on some other year end rankdowns I've done in the past too, but I always thought it was just a typo or something lmao.

Whenever there is a one word song title, Word autocorrects the - to a – when you enter down on a list, and it causes issues with sorting alphabetically. It makes absolutely no sense, but it's something I noticed when I used to use Word. I moved to Google Sheets and have never had issues really with rankdowns unless it's my own doing. Shameless plug time! If you all like mediocre radio hits from an endless sea of interchangeable white males, you should come submit for the 2022 Country Rankdown! Racial Diversity?? Low. LGBT representation? Minimal! Gender equality? Absolutely not! And the best part of all, I am not a lyhom!! You can send me a list in Arabic for all I care. I'll shake your hand and thank you from the bottom of my heart. (Seriously, I have six lists. I might need to cut the few women who managed to chart this year to see if I can entice some more bumpkins to participate...) Frequently Asked Questions: Q: Will Morgan Wallen's various public makeout partners be making a cameo appearance? A: Unfortunately, Party City didn't have enough buses to accommodate for transportation. You may hear from his best friend, The N-Word though! Q: Has Zach Bryan learned to sing yet? A: Absolutely not! Stick a fork in each ear before streaming "Something in the Orange". Q: Is Little Big Town made of two couples? A: Three of them are actually one couple, but one of them is not. They won't tell us who. Q: Who was the most successful female in the country industry this year? A: Brittany Aldean. Q: What happened to Chris Young's cowboy hat? A: Legend has it he left it on Kenny Chesney's tour bus after their secret celebration of "The Man I Want To Be (In)" going #1, and he has been too scared to go back for it in case he accidentally sees Kenny's shiny bald head when he's not expecting to. That's all! Come join in on the fun while you still can! All are welcome, no matter how dumb they are at following directions and typing up lists!

Playing some catch-up. 100. Dirty Heads - "Life's Been Good" I had no idea this was a cover initially. After hearing the original, I hated this cover more. It's just a complete, total, Auto-tuned butchering. 99. Oliver Tree - "Life Goes On"The pure, raw suck of this song goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and ona ndoand oandoando and oan doan doa ndosn 98. boywithuke - "Toxic"I actually don't hate this as much as almost everyone else did. There's a decent hook and there, and toxic friendships and relationships are a common subject in music. It's not that well executed but I find it somewhat tolerable. 97. AJR - "I Won't"96. Machine Gun Kelly f/Willow - "Emo Girl"The lyrics to this song are beyond bad and I swear that MGK made an electric kazoo to use in the chorus. Worst part is, this isn't even the bottom of the barrel when it comes to his second pop-punk album. Everything desperately needed more time in the oven or should have been tossed out. Everything.95. Gayle - "abcdefu"Alt always has had random pop songs cross over, but why did it have to be this? Why couldn't "As It Was", "Gasoline", or "Bad Habit" get to where this did? 94. Daisy The Great and AJR - "Record Player"93. Shinedown - "Daylight"You're all cynical bastards, aren't you? All of you hear is "ewww Christian Rock!" and tank it without really taking it in. Ehh, whatever, I enjoyed the uplifting sincerity of this one. Hell, I kinda needed it after another messy year IRL. I can't always listen to "life sucks and then you die and it will never get better" 24/7. 92. Matt Maeson - "Blood Runs Red"Matt Maeson kinda squandered his potential with this era, I think. I still don't think he's overall as bad as others say he is, but... yeah, for this one, he kinda is. 91. Jagwar Twin - "Happy Face"This sounds like the kind of music that would get played while you're getting brainwashed. I think this song killed a braincell or two anyway. 90. girlfriends - "High Again"This was not that bad. girlfriends isn't great as far as pop-punk goes, mind you, this was enduringly mid at best, but this at least carried a tune from start to finish. 89. Imagine Dragons & JID - "Enemy"88. Imagine Dragons - "Bones"I will never understand why Imagine Dragons thinks yelling over crashing synthetic drums makes a song much less a single. This is better than their previous attempts with this kinda thing but that's not saying much. 87. Highly Suspect - "Natural Born Killer"This is better than "whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I hate these days" but that is a pathetically low bar to clear. 86. Almost Sunday - "sun keeps on shining"They've done better than this. Honestly I found this to get a tad irritating on repeated listens. Good place for this to go out. Extras:Starcrawler - "Roadkill"This song is great fun. I wish it could have done better. Yot Club - "u dont kno me" This was perhaps the most random Audacy pick out of all of them before Audacy put their experiment to bed. Honestly this was one of the better ones. Joy Again - "Looking Out for You"I listened to this a few times. It's fine. ODESZA f/ MARO - "Better Now"
I was really high on this song at first but it slowly dropped down my ranks. I still kinda like it though. It checks off a lot of what I like about electronic music. The Walters - "I Love You So"Boring. The Weeknd - "Gasoline"One of the better cuts from Dawn FM. It would have been interesting to rank it.

More catch-up (I'm assuming this will stay the way it was).
85. Milky Chance - "Colorado" 2022 was certainly a year, wasn't it? Alt brought Milky Chance back from the dead. I'm still trying to figure out how or why this happened.
84. Muse - "Compliance" Pulse clearly decided not to comply. While I do think this went out early I understand why this fell so low. Then again I'm the weirdo who didn't find the synth to be cheesy.
83. Marcus Mumford - "Grace" This song was a mess. I'm not surprised that it didn't last long on the chart. .
82. Jelly Roll - "Dead Man Walking" Country-fried Rag'n'Bone Man with grit. Honestly this could have turned out a lot worse. It's fine.
81. Giovannie and the Hired Guns - "Ramon Ayala" I gave this one bonus points for being so damned catchy. The vocals are ugly and the lyrics are bleh but I can't deny the poppy earworms this song has. Still didn't make my top half though.
80. The Lumineers - "WHERE WE ARE" BORING.
79. Weezer - "A Little Bit Of Love" Weezer tried to do a couple of new things with the Celtic theming and acoustic instruments, and it kinda misfired, but I admire that they still dared to try something new.
78. Milky Chance - "Synchronize" This is passable by Milky Chance standards. That's not saying much, but it at least has a decent vibe in the chorus.
77. YUNGBLUD - "fleabag" It's alright alt-rock, even though it kinda rips off "Santa Monica" by Everclear. Good to have on once in a while. YUNGBLUD's tendency to oversing continues to be a recurring flaw, though.
76. Bring Me The Horizon - "DiE4u" I'm not surprised this went out early. I like it personally; it hits a solid area for me with the alt-metal and emo influences. But BMTH's style isn't for everyone, and that's fine.
75. Coldplay - "People of The Pride" This desperately needed a rockin' chorus to take this song to the next level. It feels like an incomplete demo as it is.
74. Bastille - "Shut Off The Lights" You guys must have heard something semi-appealing that I didn't. I found this one excruciating, especially in the verses. Ah, well.
73. Palaye Royale - "Broken" I've always found the cinematic vibes of this one neat. It's a little repetitive lyrically but there's legitimate power in this one.
72. Panic! At The Disco - "Viva Las Vengeance" I want to like this more than I do because it has some good ideas but Brendan oversings this one to death.
71. Glass Animals - "I Don't Wanna Talk (I Just Wanna Dance)" Pretty good jam by these lads. I'm usually not too enthralled by them but this song was too infectious for me to dislike. Music video is a lot of fun too if you take the time to watch it.
Extras:
CHVRCHES - "Good Girls" They've done better but this was at least an improvement over the 1st radio single.
Mitski - "The Only Heartbreaker" This one is alright. I feel like this song had the potential to be pure magic and fell just short.
beabadoobee - "Talk" Great song; it made my year end top 10. I'm going to come back to this one for years. It's got all of the components to be a great song and uses them wisely.
Beach Bunny - "Oxygen" A bit awkward lyrically but the earnestness and sincerity wins me over.
Windser - "Memory" Windser is like almost there for me. He almost wants to click. I have a feeling he will at some point.
Oliver Tree - "Cowboys Don’t Cry" Not as irritating as "Life Goes On" but not good by any stretch of the imagination either.

85. Milky Chance - "Colorado" This one’s a resounding meh.
84. Muse - "Compliance" I don’t hate this, I kinda liked it at first, but it did feel more and more generic the more I listened to it.
83. Marcus Mumford - "Grace" This is a big swing and a miss for Mr. Mumford.
82. Jelly Roll - "Dead Man Walking" I strongly disliked this one, but then again I tend to be averse to modern country influences.
81. Giovannie and the Hired Guns - "Ramon Ayala" Not my cup of tea at all. This isn’t the way to bring guitars back to the format.
80. The Lumineers - "WHERE WE ARE" I get why people think this is generic and boring, but I think it’s kinda nice actually.
79. Weezer - "A Little Bit Of Love" Not the worst they’ve done, but still feels too cheesy and generic.
78. Milky Chance - "Synchronize" I’m in the minority for thinking this is worse than “Colorado”, but either way their singles this era are a resounding meh.
77. YUNGBLUD - "fleabag" Guess I’m in the minority for thinking this is a major cringefest and an insult to grunge. “I’m just a fleabag, nobody loves me”... um, wow. The vocals don’t help either. Reminds me of Puddle of Mudd which is not a good thing. Too bad because YUNGBLUD is capable of better.
76. Bring Me The Horizon - "DiE4u" Not for me at all, but I guess I get why others like it.
75. Coldplay - "People of The Pride" I think this is pretty solid, though I agree that it could use a stronger chorus. But Coldplay doing Muse is better than some of the other stuff they’ve tried lately (and it’s also better than some of Muse’s recent stuff, even if some of that is also overhated).
74. Bastille - "Shut Off The Lights" This one’s fine I guess… nothing offensive about it, but nothing particularly compelling either. They’ve done both better and worse.
73. Palaye Royale - "Broken" Not my thing either but there’s worse stuff here.
72. Panic! At The Disco - "Viva Las Vengeance" Not really a fan, but it’s one of their more inoffensive singles. I never had an issue with Brendan’s alleged “oversinging” either - it’s his musical indulgences that tend to annoy me more.
71. Glass Animals - "I Don't Wanna Talk (I Just Wanna Dance) Kind of low-key annoying, but again, there’s worse stuff here.
As far as the extras go, ”Talk” is the biggest standout. “Good Girls” and “The Only Heartbreaker” are good too.

Playing some catch-up. 93. Since when have these guys been classified as Christian Rock? I've never seen them marketed to that market. Or is it more a case that they've become vocal/open about their individual faith? I mean, I didn't love the song, but that has nothing to do with the faith of the members. Quite a few artists I regularly listen to publicly identify as Christians (Sufjan Stevens, U2, Lone Bellow, Lenny Kravitz). And some pretty big bands have gotten their start on Christian-leaning labels (Anberlin, Lifehouse, Switchfoot). And technically Katy Perry, but that's different since she basically shuns any reference to her flopped CCM record in the 90s under her birth name (Katy Hudson).

I think it's more that the general vibe of this specific song makes people think of contemporary Christian music (CCM).
Definitely coming from a place of cynicism though. I didn't mind the song, and I'm not generally a fan of Shinedown.

Or is it more a case that they've become vocal/open about their individual faith?. I was responding to the comments about the song mocking it for sounding like a Christian Rock song due to lyrics like “have faith you’re not alone”. My criticism of the critics is that they’re singling out such phrases as being more “Sky bully worship” instead of looking into the actual context which is much more universal and personal. They’re getting triggered over words they’re taking out of context and piano song vibes. The same thing happened in Summertime Madness too. There was a lot of “Shinedown’s gone Christian rock well f*** you Shinedown!” And the song got tanked instinctually.
