This is going awful now, I will just go and enjoy my Old Dominion concert. (Though their song can leave, as I wasn’t big on that single.)

Ok Son Of A is boring, except for the title. Of 4 singles that Dillon released, this is the only one I don’t care, and somehow sitting on the chart for 50 weeks…

Up next is the first "Son of A"; the one that ends without a possessive noun and leaves us on a cliffhanger. Overall I do find this one to be just alright. The message is strong. However, Dillon Carmichael's performance falls really flat to me. This sounds like a song that could have been a huge hit for Montgomery Gentry back in like 2006.

You're a son of a momma You're a son of a dad
This song has some of the dumbest lyrics of anything I've heard in recent history. It's not a very good song outside of them, but I just cannot get over how stupid that opening line of the chorus is. It's also been hanging around clogging up chart space for what feels like 2 years. Please gtfo already.

Our third female artist loss falls on the shoulders of Jessie James Decker. "Should Have Known Better" is her first song to officially chart on the airplay chart since it split off back in 2012, so that's cool for her! It only made it to #59, but still, lol.
I think this song is pretty catchy! Definitely glad that it was at least able to chart!

Please gtfo already. It's used to contrast the SOB line and the first line "I called him everything under the sun", which means something you would call a person in a deragatory way. Calling the narrator "son of a momma/son of a dad" instead by his father in the chorus is the suppose nicer, heartwarming twist lol Also not Walker Hayes fans talking cringy lyrics

"Downtown Baby" was not a very popular release from Caitlyn Smith, so I'm honesty surprised it was able to do this well! It has definitely grown on me through the months, but this still feels like a good place for it to leave.

Since lyrical annotations have been thrown in mix, can we get a breakdown of Party Mode, too? I remember Dustin praising the songwriters for their clever construction of that one. Confusion abounds with these country songs.

I still don't get the hate for Downtown Baby aside from being too pop? But this is THE catchy tune with melodic chorus that for some reason doesn't click with the usual suspects that rank some songs that aren't really catchy high.

Since lyrical annotations have been thrown in mix, can we get a breakdown of Party Mode, too? I remember Dustin praising the songwriters for their clever construction of that one. Confusion abounds with these country songs. Here's what ChatGPT has to say about it:
"Party Mode" is a lively and upbeat country song by Dustin Lynch that explores the aftermath of a failed relationship. The lyrics depict a man who is struggling to move on after his lover has left him. Instead of wallowing in his sadness, he turns to drinking and partying to numb the pain. The chorus repeats the phrase "Party mode" multiple times, emphasizing the idea that the protagonist is embracing a carefree lifestyle to cope with his heartbreak.
The lyrics are simple and repetitive, but they effectively convey the emotions of the protagonist. The use of neon lights and honky-tonks create an imagery of a lively and energetic atmosphere, adding to the theme of partying and letting go. The use of alcohol as a coping mechanism may not be a healthy solution, but it's a common one that many people turn to in times of heartbreak.
The song will appeal to those who enjoy upbeat and catchy country tunes that are easy to sing along to. It may particularly resonate with those who have experienced a difficult breakup and can relate to the feeling of wanting to forget their troubles through partying. The song's message may not be particularly deep or profound, but it's a fun and enjoyable song that can serve as a reminder that it's okay to let loose and have fun even in the midst of heartache. Overall, "Party Mode" is a catchy country song that is sure to get listeners tapping their feet and singing along.

Yee-haw, saddle up, folks, and get ready to party in "Party Mode" by Dustin Lynch! This toe-tapping tune is a hilarious ode to drowning your sorrows in alcohol and honky-tonk bars.
The lyrics are like a country-fried version of "Eat, Pray, Love" - except instead of finding yourself through spiritual enlightenment, you find yourself through getting blackout drunk and dancing your troubles away. It's the perfect anthem for anyone who's ever had their heart broken and thought, "You know what? I'm gonna drink every single drink in this town until I forget my ex's name."
The chorus of "Party mode, party mode, party mode" is like a mantra that'll have you chugging back shots faster than you can say "Yeehaw!" The song is so catchy that you'll find yourself singing it in the shower, in the car, and even in the middle of a work meeting (sorry, boss).
The use of neon lights and honky-tonks in the lyrics is pure genius. It's like Lynch is taking you on a tour of the best dive bars in town, and you're along for the ride. You can practically smell the stale beer and hear the clinking of glasses as you listen to this song.
Overall, "Party Mode" is a hilarious and catchy country song that'll have you laughing and tapping your boots at the same time. It's the perfect tune for anyone who's ever wanted to forget their troubles and let loose on the dance floor. So grab your cowboy hat and your drinking boots, and get ready to party like a true country star!

"Water Under The Bridge" is one of the very first Sam Hunt songs to not be among the most polarizing in the year-end rankdown! It did still have the full range of ranks from the top 3 all the way to the bottom 2, but the majority of the ranks seemed to land in the 40s-60s, which helped it to climb steadily from the bottom 10 up to nearly escaping the bottom 40 over the course of the rankdown.
Personally I found this one to be a bit of a refreshing change of pace from Sam Hunt. I have rarely sought it out, but I also enjoy it more than I expect every time it comes on!

I had never listened to "Catching Up With An Ol' Memory" before, as Clay Walker has admittedly never been one of my favorites of the '90s males... But holy crap have I been missing out!! The thing that stands out the most to me with this one is how perfect Clay's vibrato is on this song. He sounds better than he ever has before, and I love how his performance is a bit soft and understated throughout the entire song.
I am so glad to see him at least charting with this one, as he is definitely at the point in his career where you can't take those things for granted, and you would almost have expected "Need a Bar Sometimes" to have sucked up all of his comeback potential back in 2021.
