Funky Cold Medina is nice too, but it doesn't compare to Wild Thing, which I hope does very well on this.

Welcome to 50 Years Of Hip Hop: The Rankdown Part 1! As stated earlier, this is intended to be a multi-part series highlighting some of the biggest and best of hip hop over the past 50 years. It all started on August 11, 1973, when Kool Herc was the DJ at his sister's back-to-school party in The Bronx. Using two record players, he extended the beat of a record and used a mixer to switch between the records, a process that would come to be known as scratching. Now as a reminder, here are the 50 songs you were asked to rank: 2 Live Crew - Me So Horny Afrika Bambaataa & The Soul Sonic Force - Planet Rock Audio Two - Top Billin' The Beastie Boys - The New Style Big Daddy Kane - Ain't No Half Steppin' Biz Markie - Just a Friend Boogie Down Productions - The Bridge Is Over Dana Dane - Nightmares De La Soul - Me Myself & I Divine Sounds - What People Do For Money DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - Parents Just Don't Understand The D.O.C. - It's Funky Enough Doug E. Fresh & The Get Fresh Crew - The Show Dr. Jeckyll & Mr. Hyde - Genius Rap EPMD - You Gots To Chill Eric B. & Rakim - I Ain't No Joke The Fat Boys - Jail House Rap The Fatback Band - King Tim III (Personality Jock) Funky 4 + 1 - That's The Joint Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five - The Message Heavy D & The Boyz - Somebody For Me Ice-T - Colors J.J. Fad - Supersonic Kid N' Play - Rollin' With Kid N' Play Kool Moe Dee - How Ya Like Me Now Kurtis Blow - The Breaks LL Cool J - I'm Bad MC Lyte - Paper Thin N.W.A - Straight Outta Compton Public Enemy - Fight The Power Queen Latifah feat. Monie Love - Ladies First Rob Base & DJ E-Z Rock - It Takes Two Rock Master Scott & The Dynamic Three - Request Line Roxanne Shanté - Roxanne's Revenge Run-DMC - King Of Rock Salt-N-Pepa - Push It The Sequence - Funk You Up Slick Rick - Children's Story Special Ed - I Got It Made Stetsasonic - Talkin' All That Jazz Stop The Violence Movement - Self Destruction The Sugarhill Gang - Rapper's Delight Tone Loc - Wild Thing The Treacherous Three - The Body Rock UTFO - Roxanne, Roxanne Whodini - Friends World Class Wreckin Cru - Turn Off The Lights The World's Famous Supreme Team - Hey DJ Wreckx-N-Effect - New Jack Swing Young MC - Bust a Move Kicking off this rankdown is the song that has the 2nd lowest SD. Four perfect rankings will be handed out, and no one loses a top half ranking.

Wow! TIL about Al B. Sure and Dana being American, LOLOL. This song was a fave as a kid, so I ranked it higher than I would have for the nostalgia. It's so campy.

All of my bottom ranks are songs that are just not funny while clearly thinking that they are. So... cringe, basically.
However! You picked a great set of historic songs here because while this is my last place rank, I can't say it actually sounds bad. Maybe a little mid, but hardly bad. Everything here, on a musical level, was enjoyable to some extent which is crazy.

Thank God this mess is gone. The only Fat Boys song I ever liked was Can You Feel It and their contributions to the MLK Jr. tribute song. My uncle had their albums on cassette and even as a kid, I was like ugh.

48. Turn Off The Lights - World Class Wreckin' Cru
Before joining N.W.A, Dr. Dre and DJ Yella were members of the World Class Wreckin' Cru. Their biggest hit was "Turn Off The Lights", which featured an unknown teenage singer named Michel'le. It peaked at #30 on the soul chart in 1988.
Points: 255 Average: 40.38 Standard Deviation: 12.451 (9th ]
No one loses a Top 10 with the next reveal, but four of you will lose a Top 20. Eight others will shed a bottom 5.
So sad to see this go. Love the total vibe here. Very underrated.
