“Flowers,” released on Smiley Miley/Columbia Records, previously topped the mainstream top 40-based Pop Airplay chart (which began in 1992) for 10 weeks and the adult top 40-focused Adult Pop Airplay ranking (which dates to 1996) for 17 frames.

Meanwhile, the single’s combined 64 weeks atop Adult Contemporary (37), Adult Pop Airplay (17) and Pop Airplay (10) mark the most for any hit. The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” ranks second with 61 weeks atop the trio of charts combined, followed by “Girls Like You” (55); 51 songs have led all three lists.

“Flowers,” which Cyrus co-wrote, launched at No. 1 on the all-genre, multimetric Billboard Hot 100 last January and ruled for eight weeks, becoming her second leader. It’s from Cyrus’ album Endless Summer Vacation, which debuted at its No. 3 best on the Billboard 200 albums chart in March, marking her 14th top 10.

“Flowers” went on to land No. 1 finishes on Billboard’s 2023 year-end Radio Songs and Adult Pop Airplay Songs charts. Cyrus also scored six 2024 Grammy nominations, including three for “Flowers”: record and song of the year and best pop solo performance.



The Adult Contemporary chart ranks titles by weekly plays on a panel of over 80 adult contemporary radio stations. The tally began in Billboard’s pages (as the “Easy Listening” chart) on July 17, 1961. Once Luminate data began powering the chart exactly 32 years later (July 17, 1993), lengthy reigns became much more common than before. (Airplay is now provided to Luminate by Mediabase.)

Notably, the longest No. 1 Adult Contemporary run on the chart prior to Luminate tracking belongs to Paul Mauriat’s “Love Is Blue” (11 weeks, 1968), followed by three 10-week leaders: Al Stewart’s “Time Passages” (1978-79), Herb Alpert’s “This Guy’s in Love With You” (1968) and Roger Miller’s “King of the Road” (1965).

Bryan Adams’ “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You” claimed the longest Adult Contemporary rule of the ‘90s before the adoption of Luminate data (eight weeks, 1991), while nine tracks share the longest No. 1 stays of the ‘80s (six weeks each): Richard Marx’s “Right Here Waiting,” Simply Red’s “If You Don’t Know Me by Now” (both 1989), Kool & The Gang’s “Cherish” (1985), Lionel Richie’s “Hello” (1984), Barry Manilow’s “Read ‘Em and Weep” (1983-84), Richie’s “You Are” (1983), Neil Diamond’s “Yesterday’s Songs” (1981-82), Kenny Rogers’ “I Don’t Need You” (1981) and Air Supply’s “Lost in Love” (1980).

The hit has logged the most cumulative weeks at No. 1 of any song among all Billboard radio rankings combined.


Miley Cyrus' "Flowers" adds a record-extending 51st week at No. 1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart (dated June 15), and makes more history in the process.

As it holds at the summit, "Flowers" has now totaled an unprecedented 100 weeks atop all the Billboard radio charts that it has led. In addition to its 51 frames atop Adult Contemporary, the song — released on Columbia Records in January 2023, ran up reigns of 18 weeks on the all-format Radio Songs chart, 17 weeks on Adult Pop Airplay, 10 weeks on Pop Airplay and four weeks on Dance/Mix Show Airplay.

"Flowers," which this February won the Grammy Award for record of the year, surpassed The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights," which posted 87 combined weeks atop Billboard airplay charts. The latter, released in 2019, dominated Adult Contemporary for 35 weeks, Radio Songs for a record 26 weeks, Adult Pop Airplay for 20 weeks and Pop Airplay for six weeks.

"Flowers" is one of 21 smashes that have spent at least 52 weeks, or a full year, combined at No. 1 on Billboard airplay charts. Billboard boasts 25 currently-active radio airplay charts, dating to the Adult Contemporary tally's July 17, 1961, launch. Country Airplay became the first airplay chart ranked by electronically-monitored data as of the list dated Jan. 20, 1990; all current airplay charts (over half of which began in the '90s) are based on data monitored by Mediabase and provided to Billboard by Luminate.

"Flowers" spent 74 weeks in the Hot AC top 10, which shattered the record of 61 weeks ("Stay" by the Kid LAROI & Justin Bieber).

This probably would've been the best chance for Taylor to reclaim the top as it was 4th of July weekend so likely playlists would've shifted to "Party in the USA" while "Cruel Summer" likely would've kept play going. But no dice.

as mentioned before with 56 weeks it breaks a new record. i just posted the top 3 and there is more at the link. it will probably it will probably lose it's #1 spot this year at Christmas unless Flowers continues it's run at #1.

“‘Flowers’ is one of those songs that has stood the test of time at multiple formats,” says Jon Zellner, iHeartMedia president, programming operations/digital music, of Miley Cyrus’ smash single. “It’s a mass-appeal song with a very strong hook and sounds like a song you already knew the first time you heard it.”

A year and a half after its release, “Flowers” adds a 56th week at No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart (dated July 20) – and now reigns as the sole longest-leading hit ever on a Billboard radio airplay ranking.

“Flowers” already claimed the record for the most weeks on all of Billboard’s airplay charts combined, as it also ran up reigns of 18 weeks on the all-format Radio Songs chart, 17 weeks on Adult Pop Airplay, 10 weeks on Pop Airplay and four weeks on Dance/Mix Show Airplay.

The song additionally crowned the multimetric Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks beginning in January 2023. This February, it won the Grammy Award for record of the year. (“It’s fun to be nominated & exciting to win but having my music be loved around the world is the real trophy,” Cyrus posted in reaction to the six Grammy nominations that she received in November.)

Muses Zellner further, “Flowers” is among “songs that will be part of radio station libraries and streaming playlists for many years and likely played by classic hits stations 20 years from now.”
