She's overrated but she tries... I'll give her an A for effort.

"What an awkward thing to say. Of course those album wouldn’t have been received the same way if another artist made them, because without Beyoncé those records would not exist."
No, it's not awkward to think that Lemonade and Renaissance are overhyped simply because Beyoncè's name are attached to them. I've seen others on here have expressed similar sentiments.
Kelis and Janelle Monaè have also made conceptually themed, artistic albums. My main point is if artists like Kelis and Janelle Monaè made albums similar to Renaissance and Lemonade, would they have gotten the same level of hype and recognition as Beyoncè's?

I do feel Beyoncé is overrated. She is a great performer and the best of the 21st century but overrated I do feel. Whenever B drops something, everyone acts crazy and acts like its the best thing since sliced bread and the thing is I can have great quality to no quality and the people go crazy. Even if you try to avoid it, next thing you know is it is up and down your timelines and all over social media. If you say you aren't feeling it, or that you don't like it, they jumped down your throat and wanna call you sexist and racist, which is not the case. Sometimes, I think people like some of B stuff or pretend to to fit in. Now, Beyoncé has some genuine fans, don't get me wrong, but I do feel some of her "fans" or people fake liking stuff whenever she drops something new to fit in. B is one of the hardest working women, however, she is not THEE hardest working woman in the industry ever. Let's not forget artists like Aretha, Diana, Tina, Dionne, Patti, Gladys etc. were working in the music industry during a time where black people were seen as less than. To make it back then and have consistent success as a black woman, you had to work HARD! Not to mention, the segregation rules still applied to them even though they were famous. Imagine being a black female artist, having multiple top ten pop hits, selling a good amount of records and still having to sleep on the tour bus night after night and eat the scraps of restaurant food after all the success you have. If were all talking about hard working women in general, let's not forget other acts like Barbra and Cher. She is one of the best performers of all time, but people want to say she is better than Tina, Michael, and Janet. Beyoncé is fantastic, but she is no where near their level of entertainment. Now we talk about her overrated vocals. Beyoncé is an above average singer. She has improved vocally since her early days. However, she is not THE BEST singer or vocalists of all time. Not even in the top ten, like people try to make her to be. Now Beyoncé has had some good vocal moments, but her voice or vocal moments is nowhere near the tone and quality of Toni Braxton, Mariah, Patti, Whitney, Dionne, Donna Summer, Barbra Streisand, Gladys Knight, Anita Baker, Stephanie Mills, Brandy etc.. This is not to say she can't sing, because she can but her they just do not compare like other people try to make her seem like. And I agree with 🇯🇲 lucy88 🇯🇲 post that other black female acts deserve the same level of recognition as her. And someone said that if people aren't listen to other artists and only focusing on Beyoncé than that's their problem. Well, the other black female acts do not get the same level of promotion as Beyoncé does. In fact, black females today have issues with their labels and do not get the same level of promotion as other black females. So how can people know other black female acts to listen to when they aren't being promoted. I think the thing is people have to stop discrediting other artists success in favor of Beyoncé and stop acting like Beyoncé has done everything better than everyone Again, I like Beyoncé (1997-2012),I even still listen to her music, but I do feel she is overrated. However, this does not take away from her talent or from her artistry. Extremely well said! I completely agree with everything you said here. To your point about "it can have great quality to no quality and the people go crazy," I feel like that's exactly what happened with Renaissance. A lot of people were acting like it was the best album ever, and honestly it just sounds generic and is nothing revolutionary like people were acting. Before anyone comes at me, I'm not saying the album is inherently bad, but nothing on it felt transformative or inspirational to me in the slightest. I think Beyoncé is an amazing artist who has pushed boundaries and done so many incredible things. However, her fanbase seems to have a tendency to go bananas over what feels like absolutely nothing, and I've never gotten why some people think everything Beyoncé has ever put out is the best music to ever be released by a black woman. There are so many other black women that are absolutely amazing vocalists and lyricists. I feel it may even feed a little into society's obsession with women needing to be in competition with one another. There can be multiple successful black female artists, and we don't need to discredit others in favor of just one.

No. I think she is recognized and acclaimed just enough.
However, I was beyond livid when many said she invented and saved House music with the release of Renaissance when a quick Google search would let them know everything they needed to know regarding that.

Beyhive, like many stan bases in general, speak of a lot of nonsense so I wouldn't take any of that into account when addressing whether or not she is considered overrated.

I think so in that it's hard to really feel she deserves more than she already has at this point, and all of her accolades are so far above her peers, it almost feels like a parody. For example, looking at the most recent Grammy situation, she is essentially seen as the best (or at least more awarded) artist of all time, as she is the most acclaimed artist ever in the history of the show. There is no ceiling for her at this point, and it just feels like a lot in comparison to other artists, in that she is so often elevated, she dwarfs anyone by comparison.
I think part of the problem is they rewarded her too quickly and too soon with both Dangerously In Love and I Am...Sasha Fierce, in hindsight those accolades should have been reserved for later in her career, specifically - her self-titled album, and Lemonade. But again, given that they had already awarded her for everything under the sun in her two previous eras it loses the effect it should have had, and it sort of equals out to she has enough. That then creates a sort of feeling of when watching award shows and the like a fatigued "...again" when you hear she won something.
It also sort of invites additional comparisons to other artists who are underrated, and makes people question the industry. Is Beyonce really so much more innovative, socially ground-breaking, and more deserving than the likes of TLC, Aaliyah, Lauren Hill, Whitney, Mariah, The Spice Girls, Alicia Keys, Drake, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, P!nk, Kelly Clarkson, FKA Twigs, The Weekend, etc. The fact that she is awarded so much in some ways paints a target on her back, and makes people think why her, while others are consistently overlooked.
I know many fans are saying it's not fair she hasn't won Album of The Year yet, but she's basically won everything else. Is it really such a crime that she hasn't won the music equivalent of Best Director or Best Picture, if she's won the Grammy's equivalent of Best Female Actress 10 times? She's pretty much already seen as the best thing to have ever happened to the music industry ever, why does she need more at this point?

No. She keeps improving every era. Had stadium go on mute(well, the ppl that actually listen) multiple times? Please, she's worked hard and deserves every bit of success she receives. Just don't watch her or block her name if you think she's overrated.

Agreed with Private Dancer and their thoughts on the matter.
Beyoncé is quite literally IMO the best performer of my generation. Her performances are unmatched, her work ethic/dedication is remarkable, her vocals (while not the best) *are* extraordinary. If there were an artist at or close to the level of MJ, I have always said it would be Beyoncé.
With that said, the fact that you can't have literally any criticism of her, let alone dislike a song/album without being labeled a "hater" or worse, a "racist" is absolutely absurd and attests to her being overrated at times. I remember I once stated my love for one Bey album (self-titled) and how I preferred it to Lemonade and I was literally jumped on verbally by 3 or 4 of her fans saying how it was because I was white, how it wasnt for me, and how I was racist in my prefernce etc. No one artist should be literally worshiped and seen as a God and I am making no exaggeration when I say *many* view her on this unrealistic scale. I also think her artistic abilities are also overrated a bit. She has been caught taking credit for writing songs she didn't write, for strong-arming songwriting credits from writers on songs she didn't participate in crafting, and of ripping off/blatantly copying other people's artistic visuals on several different projects. I'm not saying her artistic side has no credibility (as I absolutely believe she has creative talent), just that before I'd label her as the creative God that many of her fans see her as, I'd love to see what she can produce solo by her own merits. But if you dare even try to mention any such critiques, you'll be met with a LOT of hate. lol
I also hate how so many of her fans can't seem to uplift her without demeaning or stripping other women artists of their accomplishments and that's been happening since the early 2000s as if there isn't room for anyone else.
And with all that said and before someone scoffs at my opinion and mentions Taylor Swift out of nowhere (as always), I think she absolutely is overrated at times as well, but (like the criticism with Beyoncé in certain areas) if you go on TikTok, you'll see MANY videos attributing her entire career to the mere fact she is white or asking "what does she even do" completely diminishing ALL her talent. Just look at the conversation when someone dare mention her in the realm of Beyoncé or dare prefer her to Beyoncé. lol
