Yet another loss from the Genuine compilation album as “Born Too Late” bows out next. This comes in as one of the more polarizing songs as the trio of bottom 5s created quite the distance from the majority of the group who all slotted this in their top 15. Those included a handful of top 10s including a pair of top 5s from both George Strait Junkie and Kanenrá:ke. This song is another grower I think as I found myself coming back around to revisit this one a handful of times myself. While it might start off a little slow, that melody sneaks up on you and before you know it you find yourself fully invested in the song till the end.

Not sure what to predict misses, but I'll take a stab in the dark and guess "A Good Year for the Roses" and "Don't Close Your Eyes."
My remaining ranks: 1 2 3 4 5 7 8 9 11 15 17 20
Would be fine with most of these winning, other than my 15, 17, or 20 (none of which I expect to even come close to making the top 5, thankfully).

First released in 1970, George Jones teamed up with Alan Jackson to re-record “A Good Year for the Roses” in 1994 for his duets album The Bradley Barn Sessions. Thanks to a handful of top 10 support, this all but looked to finish there until a lone bottom 5 from @countryyouttuber came along just as things were coming to a close. Even still, this was one of the least polarizing songs overall as the majority of the group placed this somewhere within their top 15.

First recorded for Alan's 1994 album Who I Am, he re-recorded “Let’s Get Back to Me and You” for The Bluegrass Album which was released in the fall of 2013. This proved to be well-liked across the board with the majority slotting this somewhere within their top 15. Included in that is a pair of top 10s as well as a lone top 5 from George Strait Junkie. I believe this is also only the second song thus far not to have received any bottom 5 rankings. I only ranked this slightly lower than the rest of y'all if only because I'm quite partial to the original version myself. That said, I do quite enjoy this alternate take as there are likely plenty of songs in Alan's discography that he could've reached for when recording his first bluegrass album.

I'm going to stop there for now, but I shall return later on this evening for a few more additional reveals.

Written by both Alan and his daughter Mattie, "Racing the Dark" is the most recent offering of the songs in the rankdown as it was released in 2021 to coincide with her first book, Lemons on Friday. This was tied in points with our previous song with the tie-breaker falling onto this one as it not only picked up an additional top 5, but a top 3 at that from castleoblivion26. That said, this was a tad more on the polarizing side in comparison if only due in part to a lone bottom 5 ranking from nathanalbright. I'm pleasantly surprised to see this make the top 10 as it has certainly stood out as a favorite of mine personally since I first heard it.

“Ring of Fire” was the only single released from Alan's 34 Number Ones compilation album in late 2010 where it peaked at #45 on the country charts. Considering that this was a remake of a country classic, this was the only single of Alan's I opted to exclude from his artist rankdown and chose to save it for this one instead. This was well-received overall as half of the participants placed this inside their top 10 with nathanalbright slotting this inside his top 5. All but two others placed this outside of their top 15 with one of those being from myself and a bottom 5 at that. Alan's cover of this Johnny Cash song is fine, but it's just not something I'm ever going to revisit unless it's for a rankdown such as this one. Only because of that did it wind up a bit further down on my list compared to the rest of y’all.

My guess for what'll miss the Top 5 is: "Wings", "Blue Ridge Mountain Song", and "If Tears Could Talk". That said I could see "Lord, I Hope This Day Is Good" missing out as well

In terms of the religious songs here, I’ll Fly Away is usually the one that I like more because it is more upbeat than the similar themed songs.
A Million Ways to Die has solid music but these lyrics are a bit rough.
I actually have no memories of Look At Me being covered by CU despite listening to Play On before lol. After the two listens of AJ version, I found some part of the melody similar to When You Say Nothing At All.

Don’t Close Your Eyes should not have even reached top 10. The cover did not stand out at all. Blue Ridge Mountain Song is the key song of his bluegrass album, so I hope it can reach top 5.

Much to the disappointment of recordyear, “Blue Ridge Mountain Song” is the next song to leave and was the second one featured in the rankdown from Alan's The Bluegrass Album which was released in 2013. Half of the participants ended up placing this within their top 10 which included a pair of top 3s from both recordyear and Kanenrá:ke. While this did garner one lone bottom 5 ranking, that wasn't enough to keep this from being a solid top 10 contender for the majority of its run.

“Wings” is the next song to bow out from the Genuine compilation album leaving "If Tears Could Talk" as the last remaining song from the collection to remain intact. This actually was a consistent top 5 contender for much of the rankdown up until about the last quarter when its three lowest rankings would come along. Two of those came in the form of a pair of bottom 5s from castleoblivion26 and Kanenrá:ke with 🌺CountryLineDancer being the only other participant to put this outside of their top 15. Everyone else wound up placing this in or near their top 10 with three of those being top 5s from myself, bboat11 and .indulgecountry. Of all the songs included for this rankdown, "Wings" feels like the most hit-worthy of them all and a missed single opportunity at that. I believe this was also recorded for the Good Time record, so I'm somewhat surprised it ended up missing the cut. This certainly feels like something that would fit right in on any one of Alan's studio albums.

Caylee Hammack and Alan Jackson's cover of the Don Williams 1981 hit “Lord, I Hope This Day Is Good" proved to be a formidable presence here. That is thanks in part to the majority of the group who placed this in or near their top 10 with only two coming from outside of the top 15 altogether. This also was a steady top 5 contender during the last half of its run as it would pick up a trio of top 5s along the way. Of those, .indulgecountry slotted this as his runner-up.
