Silk Sonic - "Leave The Door Open"

The duo named Silk Sonic made up of superstar Bruno Mars and soul/hip-hop artist Anderson .Paak was created in early 2021, they dropped their first single "Leave The Door Open" in March and it immediately became one of the biggest hits of the year. Debuting at #4 and eventually reaching #1, it became Bruno's 8th #1 single and Anderson's 1st. It's second week at #1 in May 2021 was controversial since it was the song that blocked Dua Lipa's "Levitating" from #1 (that song would go on to be the bigger hit in the end). The track also reached #5 on pop radio and it ended 2021 as the 7th biggest song of the year in the US.

In my personal opinion, I think this song is just ok. I think it's maybe a little too old school for my liking, so much that it's kinda boring and escapes my mind pretty quickly. "Smokin Out The Window" is definitely the biggest highlight from that album.

I may have appreciated Bruno Mars' music a lot less compared to my early teen years (2013-2016 to be exact), but I was ecstatic when this came out. I really loved the old-school, 80s music vibes that was on-point on this song.

And also, the chaos that is the May 22, 2021 chart week caused by this and Levitating was worth remembering as well.

Oh wow!! I can't believe it's been two yrs already since this song came out. I loved it from the very start and would often hear it on the radio. Definitely one of their best. It takes me back to 70s soul music and Soul Train.

Bruno has has so many great songs and this among my favorites .alot of Bruno's music has a throwback sound and this with it's 70's philly soul influence . it was well deserved of all the Grammy's he and Anderson got for this.

It's a hot take, but I completely agree with you. This one is kinda boring whereas "Skate" and "Smokin' Out the Window" are amazing.

I don't dislike it and I definitely won't skip it if it comes on shuffle, but I'd be lying if I told you it's one of my go-to Bruno tracks. I love that old-school RnB music as much as the next person, but he has run that fucking sound into the ground at this point. It's almost creepy, it's like he's living in the past. And the song itself borders on overwrought now that I think about it.

I'm inclined to agree with you, I love both 70's and 80's music but man some of these artists like Bruno and The Weeknd need to hop off this retro sound and try something else. I'm getting pretty sick of this throwback stuff.
