Can someone explain how MB Country works: Below is yesterday's chart. ICFI has a bigger AI, but less spins than OOTT, so I assumed it's ahead based on AI. BUT LYBBC has more spins *and* bigger AI, but is behind OOTT. How is that even logical? 14 17 KANE BROWN I Can Feel It 2973 4205 -1232 16.552 19 18 CARRIE UNDERWOOD Out Of That Truck 3051 2945 106 11.534 21 19 JASON ALDEAN Let Your Boys Be Country 3124 2808 316 12.230 It's nice to see OOTT continue to stay afloat. It sure would be nice if that pushed it until Top 10. Yeah, as Gardyfan mentioned the Mediabase charts are based on a point system. It is a combination of spins, audience impressions (AI), and the market size of the stations playing the song. in the case of Carrie and Jason (with Carrie having less spins and less AI but ranking higher) most likely Carrie is being played more on large market stations than Jason.

How old is OOTT at this point?

I just don't see this lasting much longer since now UMG Nashville has 5 songs promoting in this branch that Carrie is on (Capitol Nashville) between this, "Cowboys and Plowboys", "American Girl", the new Luke Bryan single, and "Messed Up As Me" and of these 5, Carrie Underwood's has been promoted the longest by a long shot, and is showing the most signs of waning.
Max this to a Top 15 peak on Mediabase and let it go. Still find it sad this didn't get a music video as that would have helped somewhat with the streams and buzz for this song even more.

This whole era was a hard lesson in questionable single choices, not pulling something that wasn't working soon enough and pivoting quickly to something with some level of buzz. I'm honestly not sure how much better this would have done if they had pulled HMH the minute OOTT came out and seemed to click a bit, but they should have done it. Or, what could have happened if OOTT and Drunk and Hungover were included from the get go. Water under the bridge at this point. I'm guessing this is it for the D&R era. Time to see what is next. I'd even be good with another gospel or Christmas project at this point. The gospel project doesn't have to be hymns either. Lean into "Something in the Water" or some contemporary content like Lauren Daigle. Of course, a more classic country sound is what I would love to hear from her, but I'll be a fan regardless.

Imagine if she led the era with “Burn” as the lead single, “Velvet Heartbreak” second, and then this from the deluxe. May have been a very different story.

Imagine if she led the era with “Burn” as the lead single, “Velvet Heartbreak” second, and then this from the deluxe. May have been a very different story. Going with "Ghost Story" -- which admittedly grew on me a lot over time, but still -- basically doomed this era to be a flop from the jump. Carrie doesn't need to "play the game" anymore so to speak and can comfortably rest on her laurels, but it's just so frustrating to see her/her team showing all the signs of being totally out of touch with how to market her successfully for 2 country eras in a row now. She very easily could and should still be having hit singles, especially with how many bops were right there on D&R. So much wasted potential.

They have nobody to blame but themselves. While Ghost Story didn’t become the #1 hit they were hoping for, it still did decent enough, peaking at #6 (I believe?).
So, they had the chance to correct lanes in terms of the era with the second single, and they chose to go with Hate My Heart simply because it was the Hardy co-write even though it is easily one of the weakest tracks of the album. Crazy Angels and Pink Champagne were right there if they wanted something uptempo. Burn and Velvet Heartbreak were right there if they wanted something mid tempo.
Disappointing because this was such a fun album that didn’t deserve to underperform in the way that it did.

This might be kind of a hot take...but I really don't think anything they released off this album was going to smash after Ghost Story. The only thing that maybe could've saved this era was not making Ghost Story the lead single. Ideally, it would've been OOTT tbh. But any of the songs mentioned in the post above (other than GS and HMH obviously) would've been good choices as a lead. I think it's easy to blame HMH but I think GS is actually the bigger problem here.

As a "Ghost Story" girlie (it's still top 3 on the deluxe edition for me and the classic Carrie I love), there were much better lead single options from the album. Keeping it the same length, here are the songs I would have included on the standard album and the singles I would have released: 1. Velvet Heartbreak (S4)2. Ghost Story 3. Hate My Heart 4. Burn (S2)5. Crazy Angels 6. Pink Champagne 7. Poor Everybody Else 8. She Don't Know (S3)9. Out of That Truck (S1) 10. Give Her That 11. Drunk and Hungover 12. Damage - Either "Out of That Truck" or "Burn" should have been single #1 and the other #2. - After securing those two hits, I'd honestly be content with any single combination of "Velvet Heartbreak", "She Don't Know", "Ghost Story", and "Give Her That". Oh, what could have been

^ not including the title track on the album is an interesting tactic lol. I know it is not a favorite for a lot of people, but I enjoy the title track (and most of the album to be heard).

OOTT at least made top 20 and out peaked HMH. See if radio is willing to take it any higher, then call it quits. She should start working on new material imo. D & S era is done.

I honestly don’t see any issue with keeping on with this until the wheels absolutely fall off. We all agree there most likely isn’t another D&R single, and the duet won’t come until “Dirt Cheap” peaks (likely another 3 months.)
Let’s see if they can give this a second wind. I mean, it’s had a big uptick in streaming over the past few days; streaming on par with other songs that are in the major playlist, while it isn’t in it. Maybe the uptick continues since we are entering the warmer months. I know Southbound always streams well over the summer months, maybe OOTT will follow suit this summer.

That would rely on country radio being willing to play it, which hasn’t really happened. The last 2 eras really dented her momentum unfortunately. I definitely agree that this would be a summer smash, but is radio willing to hang on to this for that long?

Time to promote this to Hot AC or Pop rather than hoping Country radio would put it on their playlist.

This really should be a hit. It's just perfect for summer and has grown on me so much throughout its chart run. It could have been a multi-week #1 for Carrie 5-10 years ago.
Hopefully, it can hold out until early May after Lainey's push week. Once her song falls, radio might be willing to give another female more airtime.
Time will tell.

Based on the spin loss of today's update it's looking like it's done. RIP "Out of That Truck" you join the iconic hits "If You Go Down" and "Everything She Ain't" of deserving at least a top 5 peak based on terrific streaming, but radio chose to be fickle and gave a peak in the teens instead. Truly deserved better.
This has continued to stream well since it was removed from the major playlist in December, so it will probably reach platinum in the next few years. It's been gold eligible for sometime now. Despite the lower radio peak, this has been her most impactful song since "Southbound." I hope she leads her next era with something similar sounding. There just was no momentum left in the era to turn it around; and the fact that she disappeared the entirety of it's chart run certainly didn't help anything.

We officially reach a time when Carrie’s single cracking top 20 is considered a win.
we all know no one stays at top all the time and I guess we just hope it would last longer for Carrie...

Still think she can bounce back if she comes back swinging like she used too (similar to how I feel Miranda is coming back), but I question if she even wants it anymore.

Honestly I am okay with this being done. I like the song but man is it really old on the chart and one of my stations (WITL) has played this in daytime rotation since July or August of last year so I am burned out on it. It also felt like Carrie and her team sabotaged this song's chart run with not much promo beyond radio, no music video, Carrie Underwood only having her Vegas show. The call-out scores were also never really there for this one. It was never awful, but it was always lagging. This did connect well on Spotify, but weirdly enough according to Monday Morning Intel it's audio streaming weekly was always on the back end (#40 this last week).
This did it's job of keeping Carrie Underwood in the picture within country music, but I am ready for the Cojo duet in a few months, and hopefully her next album era she gets more songs like this and "Southbound" which will connect. If we get another "Ghost Story", "Love Wins", "Cry Pretty", mid tempo song I feel like that will further derail what is left of her radio momentum.

Are we even sure that the Cody duet will be the next release for him? Also, how long will it take for his current single "Dirt Cheap" to complete it's path to #1?
