Born in Philadelphia, Eve Jeffers started working as a stripper at age 18 until she was convinced by Mase to give it up and focus on music. She originally went by the name Eve Of Destruction before shortening it to just Eve. Her debut album Let There Be Eve...Ruff Ryders' First Lady was released in 1999. The single "Love Is Blind", which features Faith Evans, peaked at #10 on the rap chart, #11 on the R&B chart, and #34 on the Hot 100. The song was based on an abusive relationship between Eve's best friend and her boyfriend.

Timbaland ushered in a whole new sound and era of music and this album was the definition of lit when I was in high school. You had to have been there. I don't think anyone is confusing Timbaland and Magoo with actual good rappers, LMAO, but the song is hot for Aaliyah, Missy, and the beat ALONE. So, yeah, it was robbed.

59. The Power - Snap!

Snap! was formed in Germany by producers Michael Münzing and Luca Anzilotti under the names Benito Benites and John "Virgo" Garrett III. Their biggest hit came in 1990 with "The Power" which hit #1 in six countries. In the US, it topped the rap and dance charts and peaked at #4 on the R&B chart and #2 on the Hot 100.

The song samples "Love's Gonna Get You" by Jocelyn Brown, "King Of The Beats" by Mantronix, and initially sampled "Let The Words Flow" by Chill Rob G. This version was released and credited to Power Jam. Arista Records wanted to release its own version in the US, but due to it not being legally possible to release the original version, it was re-recorded with new lyrics by Turbo B (Durron Butler) and with additional vocals by Penny Ford. It was released in the US when the samples were legally cleared.

Born and raised in The Bronx, Darryl Gibson got his start as part of a family rap group called Disco Cousins, performing under the name Baby Breeze. He later joined the group Almighty God Committee, using the name Positive Knowledge Allah. He later went solo and shortened his name to Positive K. His biggest hit came with the 1992 release of "I Got a Man". It peaked at #1 on the rap chart, #10 on the R&B chart, and #14 on the Hot 100. The song was built on a sample of A Taste Of Honey's "Rescue Me", and also samples "Get Up And Dance" by Freedom, "Spread Love" by Take 6, "High Power Rap" by Crash Crew, "Mama Used To Say" by Junior, "Kuff" by Shelly Thunder, and the movie Die Hard 2.

Fun fact: Positive K also voices the female in the song using studio technology to raise his pitch.

"Crossover" was released in 1992 as the lead single from their fourth album Business Never Personal. It's their biggest hit, topping the rap chart, peaking at #14 on the R&B chart, was the first of their two Hot 100 entries, and was certified gold, which may be considered ironic since the song criticizes rappers who cross over in order to sell more records. The Lost Boyz were formed in Queens by Mr. Cheeks (Terrance Kelly), Freaky Tah, Spigg Nice, and Pretty Lou. They broke through in 1996 with the single "Renee". Featured on the soundtrack to the movie Don't Be a Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood, it peaked at #3 on the rap chart, #13 on the R&B chart, and #33 on the Hot 100. Sampling Janet Jackson's "Funny How Time Flies (When You're Having Fun)", it's about a woman who meets and dates the narrator but is then killed during a robbery.

Freaky Tah was murdered in 1999. After the release of their third album Mr. Cheeks left to pursue a solo career. Spigg Nice served time in jail for multiple bank robberies. When he was released, the group reunited on Nick Cannon's Wild 'N Out.

Born in Missouri and raised in the Detroit suburbs, Marshall Mathers III got his start rapping with a friend in high school, originally taking on the name M&M. He then formed a group called New Jacks which was later renamed to Soul Intent. Em and fellow rapper Proof later formed The Dirty Dozen, or D12, with four other rappers. He broke through with the release of The Slim Shady LP in 1999. The album's third single, "Guilty Conscience", peaked at #56 on the R&B chart.

The song samples "I Will Follow Him" by Little Peggy March and "Pigs Go Home" by Ronald Stein, the latter of which led to a lawsuit by Stein's widow due to Stein not receiving songwriting credit and his wife not getting any royalties. The suit was eventually dismissed.

The song was built on a sample of Kool & The Gang's "Hollywood Swinging", and the chorus is an interpolation of "Bad Boy" by The Miami Sound Machine. Mase retired from music in 1999 and became an ordained minister. He eventually returned.
