I'm still floored that Noreaga didn't know Tammy Lucas did the hook on "Superthug".
Nice to see "I Got A Man" make it this far.

Can't believe this lasted longer than actually iconic and memorable songs OR that it was EPMD's biggest hit! I had literally never heard this song before the rankdown and I didn't even listen to the whole thing. You Gots To Chill and Strictly Business were much more impactful, IMO. I still can't believe the Goodie Mob song is in the Top 50! Wow.

I still can't believe the Goodie Mob song is in the Top 50! Wow. Would've been a crime if it wasn't. Frankly, "Cell Therapy" deserves top 20, but I'm not expecting that to happen.

With the addition of Fredro's cousin Kirk Jones, who took on the name Sticky Fingaz, then finished the demo and signed with Jam Master Jay Records. Their breakthrough single, 1993's "Slam", topped the rap chart, peaked at #11 on the R&B chart and #4 on the Hot 100, and is certified platinum. It's been sampled numerous times since its release. 46. I Used To Love H.E.R. - CommonBorn and raised in Chicago, Lonnie Lynn got his start as part of a rap group while in high school, opening for the likes of N.W.A and Big Daddy Kane. He later went solo using the name Common Sense. His 1994 single "I Used To Love H.E.R." peaked at #31 on the rap chart and #91 on the R&B chart, and is generally considered one of the greatest hip hop songs of all time. The acronym H.E.R. stands for "Hip Hop In Its Essence Is Real". Samples "The Changing World" by George Benson. The song criticizes the direction hip hop was taking, comparing it to the degradation of a woman and referencing West Coast rap. This led to a years long feud with Westside Connection, which ended after a meeting with Louis Farrakhan. Common Sense was forced to shorten his name to Common after being sued by a reggae band from California with the same name. Unfortunately I've always felt IUTLHER was kind of condescending, and IMO Common's best work was in the 2000s on Like Water For Chocolate and Be.

45. It's All About The Benjamins - Puff Daddy & The FamilyBorn in Harlem and raised in Mount Vernon, Sean Combs got his start as an intern at Uptown Records, working his way up to talent director. He was later fired from Uptown and started his own label Bad Boy Records, signing acts like Faith Evans, 112, Total, and The Notorious B.I.G. As a rapper he released his debut album No Way Out in 1997. The single "It's All About The Benjamins" originally appeared DJ Clue's mixtape Holiday Holdup and only featured The L.O.X. 43. The Humpty Dance - Digital UndergroundDigital Underground was formed in Oakland by Shock G (Gregory Jacobs), Chopmaster J (Jimi Dright), and Kenny K (Kenneth Waters). Their breakthrough came in 1990 with the release of "The Humpty Dance". This rap charttopper also peaked at #7 on the R&B chart and #11 on the Hot 100. It samples "Sing a Simple Song" by Sly & The Family Stone and "Theme From The Black Hole" by Parliament, and was sampled in numerous songs since its release. Fun fact: Tupac got his start as a member of Digital Underground. Shock G passed away in 2021 from an accidental overdose. Kenny K died in 1994 from kidney failure. 42. Insane In The Brain - Cypress HillCypress Hill was formed in South Gate, California by brothers Sen Dog (Senen Reyes) and Mellow Man Ace (Ulpiano Reyes), DJ Muggs (Lawrence Muggerud), and B-Real (Louis Freese), and were originally known as DVX (which stood for Devastating Vocal Excellence). After Mellow Man Ace left for a solo career, the group changed its name to Cypress Hill, a street name in South Gate. Their biggest hit came in 1993 with the release of "Insane In The Brain". It topped the rap chart and peaked at #27 on the R&B chart and #19 on the Hot 100. Samples "Get Out Of My Life, Woman" by Lee Dorsey, "Say It Loud - I'm Black And I'm Proud" by James Brown, "Life" by Sly & The Family Stone, "Boom By By" by Buju Banton, "All Over The World (La La)" by The Youngbloods, and three of their own songs, "Hole In The Head", "How I Could Just Kill a Man", and the Prince Paul Mix of "Latin Lingo". It's been widely speculated that the song also contains the sample of a horse from Mel & Tim's "Good Guys Only Win In The Movies", by DJ Muggs has refuted that claim, first saying that it came from a blues guitar, then later saying that it came from a horn. He also admits his memory is clouded due to smoking weed while making the song. B-Real says that "Insane In The Brain" is a diss track toward Chubb Rock.
