Not offense to Miranda but we really missed out on a full band version. Her sitting and trying to be polite to Miranda and doing it acoustically. Just imagine if she did it full power with the band. Maybe one day… we know she could easily hit the notes too just from this segment where she didn’t have to try very hard to out vocal Chappell

Someone being “outshone” by the other seems neither the spirit nor the point of these duets. I mean Miranda’s verse on Tin Man alone, proves a point Kelly has often made, that one doesn’t need to be loudest or rangiest to be effective & emotive. Lambert’s tone, phrasing and melodic sensibilities alone, on that live version of the song she wrote, put her far beyond any judgement or comparison, and one of the most gifted vocalists her genre has ever birthed.

On another note, seeing footage from today’s show (and clips from this week generally, plus new single cover etc) looks like she may be phasing out the bangs? Which I wouldn’t be super mad about! They’ve had a good run. But I always laugh that she seems to go for hair changes not long after the start of eras which make it a bit inconsistent (I believe the bangs emerged a week or so into season five) and probably a bit of a headache for the marketing dept.

You For Christmas is a BANGER. Her voice sounds amazing. Lots of reverb. In sort of the The Ronettes vein, but with touches of the sort of soulful Otis/Temptations holiday stuff. Cute little spoken word intro (and outro). Lots of BELTING. Mid-tempo. Luscious. KEY CHANGE. You can really feel the production elevated under Mark.

Sounds like a classic. Hard to say on first listen, but certainly sounds like her biggest Christmas hit since UTT can see why she's so excited.

I keep listening, and keep imagining how difficult this is to sing, lol. The verses are pitched so high - unlike the usual low verse, high chorus. This is high belted verses, high belted chorus, key change to make it even higher/harder in the back third. With a high falsetto (on the cusp of a whistle, may even be) at the climax.

I imagine Atlantic are going to give this a massive push as they want their own Underneath The Tree (to be evergreen each year). So I'd expect lots of high profile performances (the stamina and consistency she's shown since 2020 will need to serve her well on this damn), a music video, lots of syncs etc. Without hyperbole, I'm trying to think of a more impressive Pop vocal she's put on record.

Edit: I think it's viability as a holiday staple is that its lyrical standpoint is much more broad and simple than singles since UTT. Christmas Isn't Cancelled was clever, and verbose (tempo changes and all), Christmas Eve was a little more child-like in regards to believing in the magic of a specific day/anticipation of one. Santa Can't You Hear Me, again, is a letter to a make believe children's character essentially (albeit through the vein of a love song). While this one makes allusions to the Christmas touchpoints, it's much more to the the point, much more general - capturing that vibe of longing and love at Christmas, while still being jolly.

Well said. I also appreciated Miranda stepping back a bit in Good Luck Babe! I hate when people try to compete in a duet. It gets embarrassing even when both singers are amazing.

"Lose Control" duet is thee one song I am wishing gets to be incarnated as a studio version, whether as part of a kellyoke EP or an official single by Teddy. Their duet is mindblowingly good I just need this to happen.

She apparently got sick last week, and was sick enough to miss appearances on the Today show & Hoda & Jenna on Monday, & both show tapings on Tuesday. Today's show was supposed to be a Keith Urban duet, but she was still too sick to sing, so he just performed in place of the Kellyoke. My Heart Will Go On is apparently airing tomorrow (was a prerecorded Kellyoke) & I guess will be shown next Thursday as a Kellyoke encore.

Great addition to her Christmas canon! Is it better than UTT? No, not really in any way. I wish it felt a little less rushed from the verse into chorus but it’s a great vocal and love that she worked with Mark — need more of that on some non-Christmas songs please!

When Christmas Comes Around…Again Deluxe re-release out November 1st. Featuring You For Christmas and a cover Sleigh Ride (which I must admit I made up in my head she already covered and had on one of her albums).

Seems a shame to go to the trouble of re-releasing the record and only including - new single aside - one uninspired cover choice. New single still slaps though.

Without hyperbole, I truly think "Merry Christmas (To The One I Used To Know)" is one of the best Christmas songs that exist right now, on the same level as Wrapped In Red (the title track).

As far as I’m concerned it is one of the best tracks Kelly has ever recorded. I’m counting every single recording I’ve ever heard. It’s absolutely top tier song writing and the vocals are just insane. I’m kind of glad it’s a Christmas song because I get to come back around to it every year.

Thank you! I’m excited for the re-release. I thought YFC fit perfectly in with the rest of the album so it makes sense it’ll be included. I do wish more songs were added though but the original album already had 3 bonus tracks. Can’t wait for this album to go gold!
