The cynical side of me thinks it was because of the all the clicks and publicity they got from the ARMY last week, which is why they waited until this week to do anything about the inflated sales.

Regarding Jimin's publicity, no one outside of his fanbase heard the song last week, let alone this week when it fell out of top 50 lol. Completely niche song that had no business charting well even last week.
Sales need to be filtered more and weighed less. It's a dead metric outside of stanbases like BTS or Taylor Swift or Nicki Minaj and very few of those go on to become legitimate hits on other metrics (there's three Like Crazy fueled fancrazes for every Super Freaky Girl that actually connects with audiences).

Much as it should feel good to witness the Army getting a lesson in real time about the correlation between 'f**k around' and 'find out', it's honestly a little bit scary to read how unhinged and divorced from reality their tweets right now are. I’m curious… did billboard change the digital sales rules again? Because why were so many sales for Jimins single filtered this week compared to the week of release? I'm gonna presume whatever they did last week amounted to the 'one lifetime sale' limit Billboard imposed a couple months back (so no, there was no 11th hour rule change like the Army is crying about, they just found out the hard way), and then this week they lathered, rinsed, repeated then ran smack bang into that 'one lifetime sale' rule which is why all those sales just got Thanos'd. It really puts into perspective how little people are actually engaging with the material when the Army shot their wad on week 1 and now their system-gaming attempts couldn't be more blatant.

I don't think Like Crazy is gonna immediately tank like a lot of BTS #1s tbh, it actually has decent streaming, I wouldn't be surprised if it sticks in this range for a while. Like Crazy was definitely not the most popular song in America last week but Like Crazy being the 45th most popular song in America this week feels a lot more believable

Every fanbase has its share of delusional people, but BTS fanbase is just too much. I don't know if it is because they are mostly teenagers and even preteens or there is any other reason behind it, but the amount of deranged, ignorant and brainwashed people in there is just astonishing.

Like Crazy sonically has all the makings of a no.1 hit in this era of music. I say this as someone of this generation with 0 interest in K Pop music at all.
I guess I just don’t understand how Jimin fans going out of there way to buy the album is any different than TS fans streaming the hell outta Mid just to flood the top 10 with a bunch of forgettable songs and Anti Hero. Can anyone make sense of this for me? What’s the balance when your songs selling, it’s streams aren’t far behind other songs in the top 10/20???? Why is radio held so much? Songs paid to be played constantly so it forces you to “like” it or think “it deserves to be a hit”. Literally only thing keeping the most of top 40 from collapsing is radio!!! The sales and streams are WEAK!

Billboard, instead of just ripping the bandaid off, continues to only slowly penalise sales with each chart update, so that manipulation can still occur. Although manipulation has been significantly reduced from its peak in 2020-2021, it clearly remains possible during the first week.
Seriously, there have been so many little adjustments to sales (both rules and formula-wise), but each one only slightly mitigates the issue without providing a robust solution. Understandably, they need to satisfy record labels and prioritize the best interests of the music industry, but their reactive "post-mortem" approach to rule updates show a persistent inability to anticipate just how much fanbases can disrupt the charts.

I advocate for making the Hot 100 a "minutes listened" chart. Remove sales entirely. Add the total audience impressions + total streams (and bring back UGC as part of the total streams so tiktok/reels/etc are included). The only "weighting" should just be by how many minutes a song was heard (so, for example, maybe 10-15 short clips on social media would end up being as much weight as one full listen of a song).
Then you'd just have one easily comparable number for each song. So, maybe "Flowers" was listened to for 500m minutes while another song had 459m minutes, etc. It would also make it far easier to compare each song's performance over time rather than using the abstract of "points" which are constantly recalibrated anyway.

Taylor Swift songs would be like Anti-Hero (10 Minute Version) and BTS would have a Butter (24 Hour Remix) to help stans game the system While that would be funny for a hot second I think that would be more annoying lol. while we all recognize Billboard needs to make changes, there is no "perfect" system that isn't manipulatable
