Well his latest album is charting BELOW all of his other albums on the Billboard 200, and even lower than the infamous underperformer Dawn FM, released nearly 6 months earlier.

TCT debuted with 1/4 of the units of his previous album, and his lead single debuted outside of the top 5 with only 1 week in the top 10, right after breaking the record for most weeks in the top 10 with his last proper single. I Like You was a moderate hit, but basically got radio and Doja-carried to #3.

Not saying he's done for good, and I hope he isn't because he can make bops, but the lack of hype on social media for new music from him isn't a good sign, and it feels like he's being Ed Sheeran'd a bit with the pop lead singles, high singing voice, and declining GP interest. It even low key feels like Eyes Closed in sound...

That said, I hope for Posty's sake that Chemical becomes a hit for him and proves his last era was merely a temporary lull in popularity. Also notice that unlike The Weeknd et al, his catalog didn't see a similar boost from touring. Just another sign that interest seems to be declining for him, unlike overexposure like in Abel's case.

I wouldn't say he is done at all.

Artist of the year or close to it 3 years running 2018-2020 -- which means bigger than everybody. Who stays that way forever? He is not the #1 artist in the industry anymore but he is still a big name. "Career is crumbled" is a bit over dramatic. Defending it even more so in my opinion

On The Weeknd,  his new album didn't do much but seems to be finding hits in other places.   2 songs in the top 10 even now.

I felt like Dynamite would’ve still had some crossover appeal if it organically had its run. Maybe peaking in the top 20 or if ARMY actually streamed the song and bought responsibility/fairly then top 10 wouldn’t be out of the question either.

That was my my first reaction too from that first clip that was posted, it just screamed Ed Sheeran. The second more lengthier clip sounds more like typical Post though and the newer direction he has taken.

As for this new Weeknd project, what is this, another greatest hits compilation or a brand new studio album? If it's the latter, I can't say I'd be a bit nervous because it still seems too soon and that he could suffer from over-saturation again, which hopefully he'd have learned from the Dawn FM era. Just basque in your current top 10s for a while longer.

Speaking of him, he played snippets of 2 songs that will be on The Idol soundtrack including one that has Future on it. Considering his fan base is even bigger than it was last year, i think it still could end up being at least a minor hit if it doesn’t explode.

If one of the songs does blow up, this will be the first hit of his since SYT where its completely new song material. I don’t count Creepin because all of his vocals on the song is a literal word for word cover of the original song.

They’re taking it back to the early days of rock, when labels would highjack black artists and their music and give it to white artists.

I haven't noticed the name-stealing as much (those songs/artists clearly aren't the most successful) and it might be more of a coincidence, but in terms of emulating the style of Western music (at least in some ways, as well as emulating the appearance of Western anglo artists), that is definitely more of a thing, but I don't think it's the same as the highjacking of black music by white artists of the rock 'n roll days, because with K-pop, you have a generally less successful group trying to emulate a more successful group (at least in the Western market), and they're not even achieving as much success as those they're emulating.

“Peaches” Ripe for a Chart Breakout: Jack Black’s Super Mario Bros. Movie Ballad Goes Viral

The new Super Mario Bros. Movie had a historic opening at the box office last weekend, grossing a staggering $204.6 million over its first five days of release. Though the movie has gotten mixed reviews, one part that’s been positively received has been the voice work of Jack Black as the villainous Bowser – an inspired bit of casting that may also be leading to a hit single in addition to the blockbuster movie.

Black’s “Peaches” debuted last week along with the movie, accompanied by a music video directed by Lyrical Lemonade’s Cole Bennett, featuring the entertainer (in the flesh) delivering a full-bodied performance of the piano ballad alone in a tower. The song, released via Universal Pictures subsidiary Back Lot Music, got off to a strong start in streaming and sales, and has only grown in the days since, as the movie has conquered theaters nationwide. It’s risen from 218,000 daily official on-demand U.S. streams and about 500 digital song sales on April 7 in its first full day of release to 961,000 and 1,000 in streams and sales on April 10 – gains of 342% and 104%, respectively, according to Luminate.

If the song continues to grow in those metrics (which seems likely, especially as the song continues to spread on TikTok), it should challenge for a spot on the Billboard Hot 100 within the next week or two. That would be a first for Jack Black as a solo artist – though he did hit No. 78 in 2006 as part of his band Tenacious D with the title theme to their movie The Pick of Destiny, and a second for the Super Mario film franchise, as Roxette reached No. 94 with “Amost Unreal,” from 1993’s less-successful Super Mario Bros. film adaptation. – ANDREW UNTERBERGER
