Great winner. "Violet Hill" has aged so wonderfully. One of Coldplay's best.

Once again I am forced to follow up Gates, a rough task for even the best of rankdown hosts. Idk why but 07 is a just always a good year for music imo so I'm excited. I'm out of the house tonight but tomorrow morning I should have this open.

One of the things I wanted to take back from the 2008 alt RD was my argument that Vampire Weekend were better than Coldplay just because of Pitchfork/other users, even if I already liked both at the time. 5 years later, I would not only put Violet Hill above A-Punk, but be my #2 - the song clicked with me more. A worthy winner considering Radiohead had no chance.
Thanks for hosting gates!

Great finish! I loved all of the top 10, except the Oasis song, which for some reason just did not click with me. I missed this era completely back in '08 somehow, and I'm thinking I didn't miss anything. Great win for Coldplay. Sadly, this was their last great (or even really good) album for me. Thanks to singingrulebritannia for a great rankdown!

10. Interesting how "House of Cards" by Radiohead has the 3rd highest SD. And yayyy also for my #97 finally leaving and getting revealed. I think I just need two more Bottom 10s to go now. This sadly just didn't really do anything for me but I can get how others like/love this. Also ugh this beat "Shadow of the Day" by 2 points? So if I put this at #100, SOTD would have made the Top 10... ughhh dang it. But 3 #1s and 14 Top 10s is very impressive. 6. Okay, so "Viva la Vida" did a lot better than I was expecting so yayy for that! This was my #5 and I do love this song from Coldplay. It's one of my favorites and one of the biggest standout songs from them. I do wish this could have pushed a little higher but just pleased to have one of my Top 10 songs make the Top 10. Though me still waiting for my #95 and #100 to show up, just OMG. Yay for 6 Top 5 and 12 Top 10 ranks! I wish this could have been their top song for this game but oh well... 2nd best is still good. 5. OMGG LOL at me with my very lone #83 ranking for "Cath..." by Death Cab for Cutie whereas everyone else has this in their Top 37, at the very least. And that isn't even one of my two lowest rankings, lmao. I'm so sorry y'all, lmao. This was alright but didn't do too much for me. Okay I see it's my 35, 37, 95, 100 left. Fingers crossed for my #35 and #37. 4. OMGGG LMAOO Yesss, finally there goes my #100 of "Jigsaw Falling Into Place" by Radiohead. hahahaha lmao It took me long enough but there it goes, lmao. Okay, well at least there are some ~lower ranks with a #48 and #57 so I don't feel that out of touch. But I do like some Radiohead songs but this song just did not do anything for me and I just didn't like it at all personally. Glad I could save myself the embarrassment of my #100 winning. Maybe my #95 wins instead lmao. 3. Ahh dangg it's not my #95... instead it's my #35 of "Don't You Evah" by Spoon, which was the song I was hoping to see win out of these songs. But no luck. Wow it's really impressive how this song managed to make it to #3 without any #1 rankings. But hey #3 is still very good. Now it's my #37 vs. my #95, lmao. 2. Oooh phew, "I Will Possess Your Heart" by Death Cab for Cutie was my #95, so I am pleased to see this not pull out the win. Though listening to it now, while I'm not crazy about it, I don't know if I agree with my low ranking of it still. Maybe I could have put up a few more spots but meh. I guess it didn't do much for me while listening to this. But also LMAOO my #95 ranking amongst everyone's else's rankings in the Top 30! 1. Whoa, "Violet Hill" by Coldplay really dominated this list by winning with over 100 points. Dangg that's massive and impressive. This was my #37 so while not my favorite, I still liked it and am pleased to see this win. I think this was my 3rd highest of this Top 10 so that's a win in itself. Nicee that the winning song also has the lowest SD. That's pretty cool. Unsurprisingly, I still end up with the closest Year-End Chart closeness but the worst/furthest Rankdown closeness - and danggg I did by far the worst with 35.78 - and over 8 points worse than alexcuse. Thank you so much for running this game, singingrulebritannia. It's been fun to participate, read and follow it - even though I always do so terribly in these games. But it's often very fun to take part in and laugh at myself over on, haha.

10. House of Cards - RadioheadI 'll just keep this one as a one time listen. 'nuff said. 9. A-Punk - Vampire Weekend I've never really gotten the hard-on everyone seems to get over this song. It's alright for a top half slot among these songs, but I doubt I could do this good with it on the actual 2008 Alt list. #8. My Moon My Man - Feist Sounded like a first listen to me. Turns out to be one of my favorite fist time listens on the list. The main hook was the highlight for me. many a great song ride on that type of hook. 7. The Shock of the Lightning - Oasis Total banger. It rocks fierce. I don't ask for much, but music that sounds great on max volume. This one fits the bill. 6. Viva la Vida - Coldplay Gave a top half rank this time, and I still throw it a thumbs up, but this song has lost tons of replay value for me since it first hit the airwaves. The synth intro which at one point was my favorite aspect of the song has now become the most annoying part of it. Go figure right? 5. Cath... - Death Cab for Cutie I used to think Lucas Haas was somehow a part of this band ,and Paul McCartney's long lost son. This was is ok. Far from my Death For Cutie top 5, but fits this list like a glove. 4. Jigsaw Falling Into Place - RadioheadMuch better than the song at #10. I probably heard it on that packed 2008 Alt rock list, but it sounded like a first time listen to me. Pretty good for a band that doesn't blow me away. 3. Don't You Evah - Spoon Don't know why but this sounded stellar on this list. I originally stuck it in the 70's in 2008 alt, but that list had Hinder, Nickelback, Buckcherry and Theory of a Deadman, so I rest my case. 2. I Will Possess Your Heart - Death Cab for Cutie I gave this song one slot above the tank in alt 2008, so read above comment. It is nice to be able to fully appreciate these other alt rock songs when not sandwiched in between Active rock heavies. 1. Violet Hill - Coldplay I've been more consistent with this song, cuz it really is one of their best. Still misses my top 10 here, but a deserving crown song none the less. Thank goodness this isn't "Viva La Vida" with that honor. singingrulebritannia Thanx for hosting. I discovered a bunch of good songs that I would otherwise never have known of. especially my #1. I stand by that one. It's soo bad-ass.

huge leap from the Alternative rankdown, and the second biggest this year that isn't explained by extenuating circumstances (I'll talk about what I mean by that later) 20
Hard Sun Eddie Vedder
FYI: this is a cover of a song that charted on Billboard's Modern Rock chart back in the 1989. The original artist was the Canadian band Indio (aka Gordon Peterson):

Gates must've started reveals a few minutes after i logged on here last & today i finally get back onto this site & see the whole rankdown is concluded...
IWPYH gets silver, pretty good. Nothing against VH but it has never wowed me, but at least it's a good song winning. The Top 10 overall was excellent!

Very late to respond oops, but of course thank you much singingrulebritannia for hosting this year! As for the winner, I'm super duper satisfied! Viva la Vida is suuuuch a good album. Violet Hill was literally my lowest of the three Coldplay songs here. Still in my top ten and still a super deserved winner choice. Glad that this album is the one that finally nets Coldplay their first championship here.
